We're going to experiment a little and see if Tapatalk is the cause of some of the slow mobile behavior for people. We're going to unplug for a week and see what happens.
It's definitely made access on my phone a lot more gooder.
anyone got any feedback so far besides Gus?
I does seem much faster now. I still get the occasional 'connecting' time out when accessing a post but not nearly as many as I used to (it was almost constant before).
It seemed like it was better but the page timed out when I went to reply to this thread so perhaps it's not (sending this once I was connected to my home LAN).
Replying to threads always seems hit or miss when using my phone hotspot. Not sure why. But just reading the threads seems a lot faster now.
Hey folks - I need your feedback on this so we can make a call on whether or not to leave Tapatalk unplugged or turn it back on
I've got a nexus 5 phone and used to find it easier to post with Tapatalk as I did not have to zoom in/out on the forum page. I'm using my phones browser today, it works and isn't the end of the world.
I've been googling about Tapatalk and forum use, and some other sites appear to have similar problems using it.
Maybe it's just because I have a POS phone, but I don't access GH except from my home and work computers. Viewing any site through a mobile device smaller than my iPad is annoying. You guys need an intervention.

I found the same thing, which is why I wanted to try unplugging it for a bit to see what people experienced.
Good call. The site overall does seem more responsive after disabling Tapatalk.
If you still have Tapatalk disabled Brant, it's not the issue. The site still crawls for me when I'm mobile.
I use the site all day on a crappy Windows phone and I've never had a problem.
I'm wondering if this is an OS or browser issue.
I don't think Tapatalk exists for a Windows Phone, so instead of checking for it on every page load, I think the software sort of chuckles at you while giving you a digital shrug
Yeah, well the site loads for me.
I never cared for Tapatalk anyway. Even when I had a fancy iPhone.
Just wondering if people are still having this issue. It's become bad for me again when connecting through my mobile hotspot. Grogheads is the only site that has this issue for me some I'm suspecting either forum software or a server issue.
That said, I'm not complaining or demanding justice or anything. It sucks for me but if it's just me I can live with that. :buck2:
If I'm out of the house and I want to check out GH on my phone (it's an iPhone ....one of the older models ) I've had some issues with the site , for instance it sometimes won't let me post ....takes forever ! And it wouldn't let me listen to more than 10 minutes of the grog cast :( BUT since I've updated this time , I've had no problems , I can listen to the grogcast now through my phone when I'm driving for instance 8) and I've had no problems with the site being slow :)
I don't know why this particular update has fixed those issues , because before when I've updated it didn't seem to make a difference ! If I get problems again , I'll post about it , but so far , so good O0
Thanks, Emeraldlis. I usually use my iPhone to connect to the internet with a laptop I have during the day. Grogheads is the only site that I have trouble with.
But you have given me an idea! I need to try visiting the site just with the iPhone to see if that has any problems.
Since I switched to and Android phone a month ago, I have trouble with Gorgheads loading there. I also got a hotspot device that I use with my laptop and it also has issues with Grogheads. Both the phone and the hotspot are on Verizon. Grogheads is the only site I have any issues with on both devices. Using my home computer with my DSL I have no problems.
Is it the entire site, or just the forums?
Do you have the Tapatalk app installed?
Just the forums and no, I don't have Tapatalk.
Ok, thx. Well look into it

I'm not sure that listening to a grogcast whilst driving is wise. Strapped into a chair, yes. Driving..........risky.
I listened to most of season 3 while driving to Florida last month! :D
Well Bob , it can be rather distracting at times listening in the car .....concentrating to much on what's being said , rather than the road !! :crazy2: but I do have to drive long distances at times during the week , so it's perfect for listening to in the car , it's just like having the radio on really :)
bbmike I hope that worked out for you listening to the phone directly ,rather than hooking it up to your laptop :) I've also just recently discovered that if I buy an "AUX "cable , I can hook my phone up to my car radio and have it play through the car speakers . So I'm gonna give that a try , hopefully the sound will be louder as well :) I'm sure most of you guys know that already and I'm just as usual playing catch up !! :D
I'm just stunned that there are people outside of America that know what a MetalDog sounds like :idiot2:

Hahaha , you're famous .......or infamous !!!! :smiley6600:
Mickey Mouse wears a 'MetalDog' tee shirt.
As well he should. ;)
Forums have been very slow loading in the past 24 hours. I've been mostly at home on a wired connection when viewing. Other sites have been fine, no lag.
Front end site is pokey too, but not as noticeable as the forums.
Same here.
Maybe the servers' hamster wheel bearings need grease? It couldn't hurt to let the hamsters themselves rest a little as well.

I've been telling that to Star for years.
I thought we'd had a technobabble upgrade to Lemmings - with a little drop-down picture of a cliff for when we needed a turbo boost.
The lemmings upgrade is only available from the Microsoft Store and requires Win 10.
Back to the drawing board then.
Any better tonight? I ran some maintenance updates
I've been on my phone for the past couple hours and it's been fine.
Yup. Aces now.
I hope that the hamster union demands were reasonable.
Those poor hamsters.
Seems a bit faster but still slower than normal for me.
Give the hamsters a break. Star is demanding.
The groggy hamsters are powering my wheel just fine ....give them a raise I say ! O:-)
Slower that ever for me now.

I'm still getting slow load times on PC with a wired internet connection (even after logging out, browser restarts, machine restart, etc). Behavior is the same on home and work networks which use different ISPs.
Not so noticeable on my phone, but it may be that I just expect lag on mobile devices.
The slow load time is a new development for me. Only noticed it in the past week.
Me too.
Weird. I even went through and optimized all the tables. Let me look into it some more.
Me three. :(
Seems faster today.
Star returned the 3 hamsters he borrowed
Seems slower today than yesterday.
Yeah, it's now painfully slow on my home network now. :(
For the first time, I am also seeing slowness today....
Time for new hamsters.

Yeah but we may have intermittent problems until they have their therapy breakthroughs.
WOW! Sure is fast now.... whadcha do? ???

started ignoring your complaints O0
Annnd we're bogged down again... :P
It only really happens for me when going/returning to the main forum page. Inside sub forums/threads it works fine.....
Same here.
I've even tried turning it off, waiting 10seconds, and then turning it on again, which works for 99% of all PC issues, but.............

That's a good observation. It does seem to be limited to the main forum page.
Try it now and see if it's any faster
Yes, we're testing in production, but sometimes that's how it works.

Much faster actually. :)
Definitely an improvement.
Did you cut off Bob's remote access to porn downloads?
Noooooooooo
Turns out the site slowdowns correspond to Bob's porn viewing/nap cycle.
