Great idea!  I have to see if I can fine some cheap dominoes of my own; they could be cut in half to mount printed counters...as long as the corners were squared and not rounded. 

I did something similar when I wanted to make a extra large, Deluxe game out of Leuthen: Frederick's Greatest Victory.  I bought some ivory-white dominoes and pasted my own home made graphics on.  The map was blown up to allow them to fit.  Those dominoes could never but cut into squares so I never thought of it.  But if I could find some really cheap ones....
