Title: thank god Football is back....errrrrr...American Football
Post by: -budd- on September 05, 2014, 08:45:06 PM
We came out a little rusty, missed some tackles but we still looked faster and more physical then the other team on the field.

I once thought the same thing...when Marino was quarterback, and I was a freshman in high school.

Must you remind me I'm old? >:(

I was one of only two Niners fans in the room that day. Why? Because I was at a huge party in Florida. The other fan was my (now ex) brother in law who was from LA.

If I can remind everyone of their own lack of invincibility...so be it.  ^-^

Never was much of a Niners fan. That game pretty much sealed the deal. Of course my Dolphins fanship disappeared soon after Marino retired...remember the talk that he was going to go quarterback the Vikings? Thank goodness he did not.  :2funny:

I don't mind your glee at the Pats losing, so much as your happiness for the Steelers winning. That's just wrong.

Two "wrongs" do make a right, in this instance.  ;)

But don't worry, I'm figure that the Steelers have a less than 50/50 chance of making the play-offs this year.

The Steelers almost forgot to show up for the second half.  If Cleveland would have pulled it off that would have been hilarious.

Bengals Won  :)

Ravens Lost :)

I am content.

They can all blow chunks as long as my fantasy team wins!

I can't remember the last time I was less impressed by two teams who won big than I was by the 49'ers and Eagles on Sunday.

Winning big is as much about the team that lost, as it is about the team that won.

I feel the need to add to this.

Not only am I content, that was about as close to a perfect football weekend as I could've wished for.  Sure, the Lions won, but given they're rarely relevant in any given season anyway (2011 notwithstanding) -- and therefore never count for anything in our division -- I can't really consider them having "spoiled" anything.  ;D

I'm not sure the Lions are quite the doormat they used to be. Time will tell of course.

In the past 15 years, Detroit has had winning records only twice, been to the playoffs only once, and has won the division zero times.  They basically haven't been worth a damn since Barry Sanders retired.

Unless & until they manage to put together at least a couple consecutive decent seasons, 2011 must be viewed as a fluke, and they will continue their doormat status.

Perhaps. As I said, time will tell.

I could honestly care less. Not a Lions fan.

As a long time Buccaneers fan, I am inclined to hate the entire NFC North (the former NFC Central, which the Bucs, for some unknown reason, were a part of), so I generally have nothing nice to say about any of those teams.  However, I also play fantasy sports, and doing so gives you a perspective that someone who does not play fantasy sports, does not always have or understand.  What I mean is, that, I root for individual performances as they pertain to the welfare of my team.  So every week, I root for Golden Tate (Lions), Jarret Boykin (Packers), Jay Cutler (Bears) because they are on my fantasy team and tried today to trade for Cordarrelle Patterson (Vikings).  It's an odd feeling to see that in print  :o

I said all that to say this, the new Offensive Coordinator in Detroit comes from New Orleans with a good pedigree.  He's got a lot of weapons to work with and a very good quarterback to run his offense.  The knock is that Stafford is a bit of a dumbbell and snatches defeat from the jaws of victory a bit too often.  In any event, the North should be a lot of fun to watch this year.  i hope they all score a hundred points a game.  And all to my guys ;)
