it's about 50-50 or worse that you're going to get much feedback on any given article around here. We've got a whole series every Monday for GameTalk and maybe 20% actually get comments...
I like them both so far. I would say forget the guns entirely and get reasonably quick with some kind of an edged weapon with a long blade. No more worrying about ammo.

Maybe for the slow-shuffler type Zed. For the crazy-fast type distance is your friend. A mix of both types of weapons would be best, saving bullets for only when needed. One thing that might be worth considering is a homemade hand cannon. You could use black powder or some kind of home-brew explosive propellent and chunks of metal debris for shrapnel. It would be a one-shot weapon but could be used to dispatch single zeds when there is time to reload in between encounters.
One thing I have not heard about (although I'm not well-read on the subject of zombies) is whether they still use their eyes to find prey or if they have some kind of virus-granted whole body sensing mechanism. If eyes are still important then using some kind of pressured dispenser (think high-power Super Soaker) to deliver blinding caustic chemicals onto the face could be a good first step before trying to dispatch the Zed with melee weapons or even just to be able to run a ways and hide.
Haven't read it yet, but will. It will mean finding that Front Page though. ;D
Cahn't get theah from heah.
( a Front Page link button would go nicely next to the forum home button ;))

I address edged weapons in an upcoming installment.mmyour point is a good one, but it is hard to completely dispense with the long range advantage, accuracy and portability of firearms. Depending on the gun and acaliber, you can be highly mobile and still carry a lot of ammo. Keep in mind that the Zeds are just one target. You will need firearms to deal with the other humans who will be trying to take your stuff.
Putting aside the possibility of reloading, at some point you will run out of ammo. But while you have it, nothing outruns a bullet.

The black powder cannon is an interesting idea, however it will be slow to reload. Zeds travel in packs, so time will not be your friend.
Zeds use sight, smell and hearing to find food (U.S.), so blinding them may slow them down somewhat, but it won't count them out of the game.
Just out of curiosity, why don't the Zeds just attack each other? The fresh ones must have as high a nutrient value as us conventionally-animated individuals, no?

They are drawn by smell to living beings or freshly dead corpses. Once a person turns and is now one of the undead, the smell they give off is unappealing to another Zombie. Good question, though.
Next article is up today :)

Maybe some kind of 'Eau d' People' aerosol could formulated to spray over an advancing hoard and induce a temporary fratricidal feeding frenzy. During the Taste Testing confusion folks could get away.

I like the idea. But it implies a large amount of research and testing in a post apocalyptic dystopian time when power and technology will be almost non existent.
That's why we have to start research now, while we still can, and have as many formulas ready as possible so that as soon as the first Zed mobs are sighted we can start field trials. We could use drones to deliver the samples and see which ones show promise.
I'm thinking aerosolized A-1 steak sauce would be a good starting point.
A-1 is people! :o
Here is the conundrum: assuming that the source of the ZA is already known to science, those that possess the source pathogen are also the same people who will be responsible for its propogation. The ones who can stop it before ( or after) it starts are the ones that want it to happen. That is, if you believe in conspiracy theories.
Just out of curiosity, would things such as VX or Sarin have any effect on Zeds? Is there still any part of the nervous system still involved with locomotion and other kinds of body movement once the subjects turn Big Z?

An awesome question. Sarin and VX operate by interrupting neurotransmitters causing paralysis and spasm and eventually death by asphyxiation. Zeds are anaerobic and cannot asphyxiate. Their mobility can be greatly affected by nerve agents, but the threat cannot be eliminated. Of greater significance is that nerve agents are a denial of use weapon. This means you release it, it hangs around causing nastiness to whomever comes into the affected area. Unless you are wearing full NBC gear, you can't be there and wearing the gear is uncomfortable and makes all activities difficult. So, releasing nerve agents to make ghouls less mobile is impractical.
What causes the Zeds' limbs and jaws to keep moving? Human muscle tissue can only operate under an anaerobic cycle for so long before it starts to poison itself through lactic acid buildup and start to break down. If the muscle tissue is replaced by some kind of randomly evolving bacterial biomass then the replacement would not be able to articulate the remaining bone structure...
... unless the 'bacterial agent' were really a bioengineered type of nanofactory organism capable of both self replication and also constructing new materials including complex structures capable of attaching to frameworks such as skeletal systems and forming actuators and feedback systems by consuming and reprocessing the remaining biomaterial of the host.
If I had those answers, I could stop the ZA before it happens. Sadly, I can only kill them one at a time.

I know I'm breaking the first rule of GH by mentioning the Front Page but I have to say this is an interesting series.
Personally, I have learned that wearing tinfoil hats makes people immune to zombie attack, as well has having the benefit of keeping out the CIA's thought control rays. I strongly recommend y'all go out and buy some Reynolds foil, but please do so only after the markets have had a chance to open tomorrow.

Sounds like LB is trying to boost his aluminum commodity gains.
The problem with tin foil hats is that they are inherently noisy. Not a good thing when you are getting your stealth on.

Hmmm.
I'll have to think about this.
Maybe if I fold them before I go outside. Think that would work?

It is a given that a true operator like you would fold the tin foil hat while in deep cover. However, they still have a tendency to move around and make noise when you are on the run.
What are the chances I can pull a Bill Murray in Zombieland and pretend to be Undead?

It is very difficult to do and a bad idea. First of all, those who croaked and now roam the earth can detect the difference between their own kind and posers. All it takes is one sniff of life and you are a snack. And masquerading as a ghoul didn't work out well for Bill Murray. He was shot by Columbus and the same thing is likely if you are spotted by an armed survivor.

Yes. You're right.
And the horns I put on them to make me look like a fierce viking sometimes get tangled in the barbed wire in our training facility.
