Title: Paint Schemes For Jets?
Post by: Nefaro on August 13, 2016, 01:19:47 PM
Getting ready to paint some minis.

Wondering if anyone knows of online resources for paint/color schemes on cold war era aircraft.

Can just be lots of varied color photos from different angles, model kit color diagrams, or anything of that nature.

Hoping to find a very few sites with a lot of varied photos/diagrams on them.  Instead of having to dig all over the web for little scattered tidbits here & there.

My aircraft focus is initially the Vietnam and Arab-Israeli wars, but my collection does extend a bit into the 80s and back to the Korean War.  Anything covering military aircraft in the jet era should do.  Share those links if ya got 'em!

I found this site through the Check Your Six! Yahoo Group. Photos and painting guides.

Will do.

Although they're pretty small, and I haven't picked up any decals for them yet.  Will be rather bare bones for awhile, after painting.

Just been gluing stands and magnets to them & the aircraft thus far.   It's slow going because I gotta keep them separated by over half a foot while the glue is curing, or those rare earth magnets might screw it up if they're too close to each other.  Or come off altogether.

Think I'm mostly gonna do paint schemes from the A-I Wars for most of the crossover stuff (F-4, A-4, MiG-19 & 21).  I still have other Vietnam types to do anyway (F-8, F-5, A-7 etc).

I still have a wishlist of stuff I couldn't find in my chosen 1:285 scale.  Much of it is 4th Gen fighters (F-14/15/16/18, MiG-23/29/31, Mirage F.1, etc).  But I'm also missing the occasional painful hole in my collection, such as the F-105.  Would hate to get 1:300 ones for some of those, as the size difference would be noticeable.  :'(

I have some MiG-15s and Sabres to paint. And a handful of Vietnam era jets. All 1/300.

My WW2 stuff is all 1/144.

What size of hexes you use for the 1/144?

Wanted to keep my down to 1.5" without much aircraft overlap.

Figured I can eventually pick up CY6 World War 2 rules and some 1/300 planes for it in the distant future.  Since I'll have 18 flight stands with magnets on them already.

Also gonna dig for some aerial/satellite photos of installations, SAM sites, etc to cut out in hex shapes, for map placement.
