One of my favorite motion picture composers: http://www.imdb.com/news/ni58724845?ref_=hm_nw_tp1   :(

The Star Trek II theme was my favorite.
"I used to be with it, but then they changed what *it* was. Now what I'm with isn't *it* and what *it* is seems weird and scary to me." - Abraham Simpson

He did amazing work. RIP.
"45 minutes of pooping Tribbles being juggled by a drunken Horta would be better than Season 1 of TNG." - SirAndrewD

"you don't look at the mantelpiece when you're poking the fire" - Bawb

"Can't 'un' until you 'pre', son." - Gus

Capn Darwin

Loved his work. RIP.  :'(
Rocket Scientist by day, Game Designer by night.

"My life is spent in one long effort to escape from the commonplace of existence."
-Sherlock Holmes

"You know, just once I'd like to meet an alien menace that wasn't immune to bullets."
-Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart

"There's a horror movie called Alien? That's really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you!"
-The Doctor

"Before Man goes to the stars he should learn how to live on Earth."
-Clifford D. Simak

Oh, crap. Absolutely loved his work - so many greats, but the Krull soundtrack was one of my favorites of all time (even though it sounded very much like the STII soundtrack, which I think he produced pretty close to each other). RIP.

A lot of good work though his quality has been suffering for a long time. I was always surprised to see him turn up working again (as for example The Amazing Spider-Man), and always sad when his work was usually meh (as for example The Amazing Spider-Man).

Still, I have lots of his soundtracks. I wonder who will take over scoring the next three or four or however many more Avatar movies James Cameron is making...

(Note: don't have that music, just remembered he did it. Possibly incorrectly.)
ICEBREAKER THESIS CHRONOLOGY! -- Victor Suvorov's Stalin Grand Strategy theory, in lots and lots of chronological order...
Dawn of Armageddon -- narrative AAR for Dawn of War: Soulstorm: Ultimate Apocalypse
Survive Harder! -- Two season narrative AAR, an Amazon Blood Bowl career.
PanzOrc Corpz Generals -- Fantasy Wars narrative AAR, half a combined campaign.
Khazâd du-bekâr! -- narrative dwarf AAR for LotR BfME2 RotWK campaign.

Some of my favorite movie soundtracks are his:

Battle Beyond the Stars
Star Trek II
Krull
Testament
Uncommon Valor
Commando
Aliens
Willow
Glory
The Rocketeer
Sneakers
Titanic (though I am thoroughly tired of Celine Dion)
Avatar (you were right, JP)

Wolfen was quite good, too. (And as a movie, surprisingly -- directed by the guy who did the Woodstock documentary, who then never did anything else and now drives a bus in Hollywood if I recall hearing correctly.)

Some of Horner's unique instruments, the chimes he often uses, even show up in a cameo role during a scene set at a park!

My favorite Horner soundtracks were Wrath of Khan and Braveheart.  Was shocked/saddened to hear of his death; definitely one of the great movie composers of our time.  :(  RIP.

"Like we need an excuse to drink to anything..." - Banzai_Cat
"I like to think of it not as an excuse but more like Pavlovian Response." - Sir Slash

"At our ages, they all look like jailbait." - mirth

"If we had lines here that would have crossed all of them. For the 1,077,986th time." - Gusington

"Government is so expensive that it should at least be entertaining." - airboy

"As long as there's bacon, everything will be all right." - Toonces

The fact that he died in a plane crash and was only 61 (I thought he was MUCH older than that) makes it even more shocking.

Man, Nimoy, Horner both gone this year.  RIP

Definitely one of my all time favorite film composers, so many memories.
"I will return before you can say 'antidisestablishmentarianism'."

"A man may fight for many things. His country, his principles, his friends. The glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn."

JasonPratt

Damn, I completely forgot Braveheart!!

Maybe worse, I completely forgot two of my other favorite scores, from the two modern Zorro films. (I can't say I like the second film nearly as much as the first one, but there's nothing wrong with the music.)

His score for the Reliant's attack is absolutely epic

"Can't 'un' until you 'pre', son." - Gus

That scene with Reliant attacking the Enterprise still puts chills down my spine, especially right there where the Reliant fills the screen and Horner's score invokes 'threat' that you can feel down into your bones.

His "Glory" soundtrack is also another favorite of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aE0neN9mvcY

I bought the soundtrack CD of the movie back in 1989.
