I have a feeling the summer sales are really hitting the servers hard.
Is anybody else having problems logging in? I am assuming it's just local to me here in this area?
no issue here
I just tried a couple of times & can't connect.
Thankss. Just came up and able to login after 30 mins of trying.
It has been running, but running like crap, for me.
Yeah steam sales. Good and bad.
I think I have finalized my sale purchase plan. Going to get Assassin's Creed Revelations for 7.99, Nantucket for 8.99, and Total War: Three Kingdoms for 47.51.

Today's purchases? But what about tomorrow?
It's now tomorrow, relative to when I posted. Now Total War for 47.51 feels steep. I should continue to wait on that.
I just got a couple of naval action modules on sale.
Steam down for anyone? I can't access it and I can't play any Steam games...
:/
Yep, out here too.... >:(
Looks to be a big DDoS issue.
Seems to be up for me. I was able to log in to the web site and client and I was able to get Tabletop Simulator to run.
Yeah I got in about 9:20 EDT.
Ditto. Just got back in after trying out the new rig on Stellaris.
I did not have problems today. But there was another outage a few days back.
The disturbing part was that I was not able to access anything in my account. The "not able to connect" message did not allow me to go into "off-line" mode.
This lasted about 20 min. I saw on FB that many folks were having the exact same issue (ie. no option to go off-line).
As long as I can get to my games off-line, I can abide a server outage. But what happened the other day was not OK.
Hopefully this was just a one-off and not a preview of things to come.
Yep, that's Steam for you. You have to be online to go offline, in other words, Valve expect you to be able to see the future.
During last Saturday's outage my friends and I were unable to play GTA Online, despite the fact that you play on Rockstar's servers. :uglystupid2:
Yeah that's what happened to me - 'no connection' and none of my games would start.
Is there a contingency plan steam have that will 'unlock' all our steam games if they go bust?

If you have no internet (or you disable your internet connection) you can start Steam in offline mode.
You will get a prompt with a message that there is no contact with the server and then you can select try again or start in offline mode.
But my internet worked fine - if Steam is down with issues it would be good if the client could default to offline mode instead of us having to futz with it.

That is what I meant : you can get Steam to default to offline mode by temporarily switching off your internet connection.
It is not a perfect solution but could help people like ArizonaTank who can't access their library and can't start games offline.
Another thing you can try (doesn't work for all games) is going directly to the folder where Steam installed the game and double-clicking on the game executable '.exe' file.

or, maybe worse, they decide to charge a "small" maintenance fee.

No. People have often said that Valve promised such a thing, but nobody has ever been able to provide evidence of that. It's one of the reasons I resisted Steam for years.
I was able to run Stellaris without Steam. But of course no link to Steamworks so...no mods.
Ah ok Pete, I understand now. Most evenings by the time I can game, I am pretty fried to do anything beyond modding or gaming...
Did you guys manage to get your Steam connections working yet?

I did, but much later that evening.
Got my Steam back yesterday.
Good. Universal equilibrium had been restored.
No 😢

Are we talking The Matrix or is this in reference to something else? :-\
NO
It's like the universe knows exactly when I have time to sit down and play a game.
Steam down for anyone else?
:(
Yes. No connection.
Appears down here as well. :-\
I'm logged in but can't see my friends list.
Looks like we'll all have to chat amongst ourselves, then. Like a knitting circle.
Working for me.

I saw that it came back online last night just as I went to bed. Word on the street is that it was a cyber hack of some kind but who knows.
Gus, on the street at all hours combing his snitches for our info. Good Man! O0
:notworthy:
I can get into Steam but no internet connection!! Must be doing server maintenance.
Working for me right now.
Came back up about 30 minutes after I posted. Must have been Tuesday maintenance which I haven't seen in a while.
