Title: Dominions 5 Questions
Post by: solops on February 04, 2020, 07:00:36 PM
If the population of a province is reduced to zero can it be repopulated?

Events can add population if i remember  correctly. But i don't think there is any natural growth while the pop is at zero.

Good idea for a thread  O0

Does anyone know how communions work?  I can't seem to get it for some reason.  Does the master have to cast 'Communion Master' and do the slaves have to cast 'Communion Slave'?  Or does it happen automatically when they are all in battle together?

Also if there are no communion slaves present can a master still cast 'Communion Master' and benefit from it?

I got Communion to work about six years ago in Dom3. Don't remember a thing about it. I think Ajidica is up on it, though (?).

If you have thaumaturgy researched, you can script communion master or slave on each unit with astral.  You have to script some mage(s) to master and some to slaves to have it work.

At each of 2, 4, 8, 16, etc slaves, masters get +1, +2, +3, +4 to all of their paths respectively (this keeps going, at 2^n).  Communion master spells will fatigue the slaves, and fatigue > 200 does HP damage, so having too many masters compared to slaves can be a problem.  Players can get past this using reinvigoration sources, or "turbo communions" (using regeneration to heal the damage done by over fatigue).  Buffs like regen or summon earth power on master also effect slaves if applicable.

Here is an example script for a communion master with air 2, death 1, astral 1:

1. Communion master
2. Wailing winds

Wailing winds requires Death 4 and Air 1.  If you have 4 communion slaves, the example mage will have air 4, death 3 while in the communion.  At 3 death you can use 3 death gems in a turn; this allows you to use 1 to cast a death 4 spell as death 3 and the other two on wailing winds.

Communions can similarly be used to cast stuff like armies of gold/lead, flaming arrows, storm + thunderstrike, etc.

Note that blood sabbaths work the same way as astral communions, and will link up with them if you have both.  There are also items that you can forge using Earth 1 Astral 1 that allow any mage with at least 1 path to be a communion master or slave instantly at the start of the battle.  This can lead to unexpected tactics, like MA Ulm casting army of lead + mass flight with its default mages and jumping high prot troops into your back line like they're Caelum or something.  Or MA Marignon finding a death random indy to summon a bunch of skeletons, giving it a crystal matrix, and then catch an unsuspecting opponent with rigor mortis.

Ah good explanation.  So I was missing the part of having Thaumaturgy at the level required to unlock the spell.  I'll have to give this a try.

What are the dimensions of the battlefield?
Later - I counted 85 squares from end to end. Did not count width. Nor do I know if all battlefields are the same - mountains, plains, swamp. etc.
