Title: Call of Duty Modern Warfare
Post by: JudgeDredd on October 21, 2019, 05:13:44 AM
Is no-one interested in this?

I was but I have a huge rod in my ass about Blizzard and Battle.net so I'm not sure if it'll make it onto my PC (yet)

Plus they proper sold out by giving Sony a special edition. I have a PS4 so you'd think I'd be ok with it, but I'm not. Why should one platform get a special edition exclusively (for any period of time).

You know someone has sat in the marketing office and said "You know how we can get more money?"   :knuppel2:

Yep, interested.  Mentioned in another thread, pre ordered a few weeks back.  Don't expect a ton but enough to entertain I guess.

I honestly don't know that much about it and finding detailed information about what to expect has been more difficult to find then it should be. All the press is the over the top cutscenes and and spec ops looking guys stacking up on doorways.

Yeah right? Very suspect :-"

The Call of Duty games have become to gaming, what, according to Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, Marvel super hero movies are to cinema...mindless theme park distractions.

The new Call of Duty game will be the same as the last 10 Call of Duty games. They don't need to tell us what to expect, I suppose, because we already know. Its the same thing over and over and over again.

Most definitely will be the same formula, I don't have high expectations and will play it fairly casually...I won't do anything more than the campaign and doubt I will even finish that:)

read a bunch of the reviews and each are giving it very favorable scores,  hinting at the best campaign of the series but sounds like only 6-8 hours worth.  i am sure it is still very much a call of duty game, but at least encouraging that the reviews so far aren't killing it.

my game is all pre loaded, will play tonight i hope....

Where did you buy it from?

Also, what was the bollox about registering the game through Battle.Net?

i bought it at greenman gaming when they had a special few weeks back.  you do have to use the battle net client and have a user account, all easy stuff.  if you do buy through greenman, you need to link to your battle net account.

Yes. All reviews look very positive so far. I took the plunge. Still downloading. Will play tonight.

The game is completely unplayable for me. My computer meets recommended requirements and the GPU memory is showing just over half being used and yet FPS is around 15. This isn't even just in game. It happens at the Infinity Ward and Activision logo launches. Cut scenes in game were unwatchable.

I've been reading about and people mentioned it right from BETA with more powerful systems than me but others not having the issue...so it'll likely be machine specific.

My experience of things like this has often pointed towards a particular setting in the graphics options...

On the plus side, it looked freaking gorgeous.

I'm going on holiday today for a week - so I'll see what's occurred in a week. Hopefully it'll get sorted.

Enjoy those who can.

no issues for me so far, besides some very minor stutter in some cut scenes.  i have played a number of missions so far and having fun.  some very interesting and intense missions, but i won't spoil it for anyone.  certainly won't be my top game this year, kind of feeling a little too led through things but that's typical in this series.  i guess the good thing it is a shorter campaign so i'll likely complete it at some point:)

Yeah...overall, I'm pretty impressed with the campaign experience so far. It's still call of duty, but I think it's the the best CoD experience in quite some time. Looks great and the combat feels good. The campaign missions are pretty engrossing so far and not too far over the top.

I'm having the occasional stutter in cutscenes but gameplay is smooth as silk.

JH I agree with what you wrote.  To add another thought:
I like how they handled the spree shooting segment of level 2.  It felt realistic and shocking -- benefited by taking inspiration from real life events like the Vegas shooting and the Paris shooting -- but I really like that they put you in the shoes of somebody responding to the massacre and stopping the bastards carrying out the shooting.  Compared to "No Russian" from MW2, which felt like it was written by an edgy 14 year old since you're forced to either commit a massacre of civilians or willingly go along with it.  I think the approach MW2019 took was quite refreshing, and it was a nice feeling running into action and preventing more civilians from getting gunned down.
Did you update your video drivers?

Indeed. It'll be some obscure setting. I had it before with a game and it was something like tessalation or something like that. Unfortunately, I can't remember what game it was.

Still enjoying the campaign for the most part. I could do without the "historical" chapters that involve sneaking around as a 6 year old, but outside of that, I've found the missions to be fun and engrossing. I do wish they were a little less scripted and more open, but I guess this is the only way to credibly drive the narrative. The zero dark thirty style missions are pretty kick ass and I'll probably end up playing those a bunch of times. Happy that they have included a couple of those nighttime house raid style missions.

They could broaden the appeal of the campaign if they would permit some pre-mission planning and weapon/kit selection. They did this in Infinite War.

Anyway, I get the feeling I'm nearing the end...it's been a fun ride.

Yep, still enjoying as well....but definitely on rails although seems to work for the story and such.  Agree on some of the missions, won't spoil it but the one embassy mission where you have to lead the person through the office.....seemed like a total waste of effort putting into the game....IMO :)

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think about what the campaign does regarding the Highway of Death thing? Taking a real American military engagement and blaming it on the Russians instead in-game?

Did you notice that, and if you did, did it effect how you perceived the campaign?

i must not be that far in the game to see it.....or it was subtle and i missed it.

either way, will have no impact on anything for me...

It's a fictional engagement in a fictional country.

For almost 30 years, the highway of death was known for the destruction of an armed retreating enemy. Now, all of a sudden, according to the learned gaming press, it's being reported as a massacre of surrendering troops so it can be equated with a game that is depicting utter fantasy. I swear, these idiots wake up every morning to try to figure out what controversy they can manufacture for the day. I guess in the next CoD historic revisionism will turn them all into civilians.

I will say, however, that the Russians certainly do get a particularly bad wrap in this game. This, together with the absurdly blatant Kurd like allies who get abandoned and labeled as terrorists by the Americans is just another underhanded way to ostracize Trump and US foreign policy.

...and by the way, attacks along Highway 80 included not only American aircraft, but Canadian, British and French, as well.

I was wondering about this too.  I saw a post on reddit that casually referred to the "highway of death" as a "war crime."  I couldn't even wrap my head around it.  Have these idiots heard of My Lai?  That's a war crime.  One of these days I'm gonna hear that the sacking of Carthage was a "war crime."   ::)

Came back from holiday, 7GB patch and the game runs fine. However, there are proper annoying stutters during cut scenes and even on the loading of the Infinity Ward logo at the beginning of the game.

I'm going to wait until they fix that before I go back to it.

The game is beautiful though.

Will this come to Steam?

I don't want another 3rd party managing my games.

I eventually got this working with no stuttering on the cut scenes. I read somewhere someone saying that the cut scenes were playing whilst the mission was loading in the background and so moving the game to an SSD would help. I did that and the cut scenes work absolutely fine now.

It could've been another patch (as every time I go to play there's a new patch) and there was a new patch last night and new graphics drivers...so it's possible it's one of those two.

But if anyone else is having an issue and you have space on an SSD, try moving the game to that drive.

Anyway - I can at last go and enjoy this.
