Start planning now for Origins 2016!
Yes, we know Dawg. Something is going to come up...
I didn't know you were all so anxious to meet me ;)
Puns in person. MWAHAHAHAHA. Err, that's if I can make it next year. :-\
Just a heads-up, you're going to want to book hotels early. Stuff fills up quick. For the guys working the show, there are some rooms set aside for volunteers (still have to pay for them, just make sure they get one), but the rest of y'all are going to want to book early...
https://goo.gl/maps/mc8R1
If you want to split a hotel with someone, post about it here and y'all can make your own arrangements.
Mirth - bring the kids!
I think I'm going to Gencon instead. Origins has always seemed to have a heavy focus on boardgames - and I would prefer RPGs. Let me know if I'm mistaken.
DragonCon got so massive that it does not appeal any longer - even though Atlanta is a 2 hour drive away.
There's a LOT of RPGs to play at Origins. The Rogue Judges guys always put on a great show, and most of the banquet rooms on the 2nd floor of the hotel are packed with organized / scheduled RPG events

Can you register in advance for a spot in a game, or is it show up and hope for the best?
nope - you register in advance and get tickets for the specific events when you pick up your badge. You turn in your tickets at the event. One of the GM's responsibilities is to collect those tickets and turn them into the area coordinators after the event.
Depending on how work shakes out I'm planning on being there this year.

Tomorrow I pick my vacation for the year. I plan to take the week after Origins off. The reason is, I am hoping to be able to get Friday the 17th off to drive up. Attend Origins Saturday and Sunday (and help with clean up and break down) and then stick around Columbus until June 21. Peter Gabriel and Sting are kicking off a tour that night and I'd like to go to the show. Anybody want to join me? In any event, if I go, I'd be willing to share a room with someone.
Dumb question: Do most/all folks stay the whole four nights? Trying to plan out not only expenses, but time-off requests as well...
I'd say come for as much as you can afford. I'm gonna be there Wednesday to Sunday.
Are you gonna help out at Grogheads Central Command or just sightsee and play games?
Got the vacation I wanted! I'll be there late Friday night and all day Sat. and Sun. You wanna room with me Martok?

The latter (although it's a given I'll stop by GCC if I'm able to make it).

I'm definitely interested, yes! I think you & I need to have a phone conversation.
Good to talk to you, Martok! You know how to get me when your info firms up.
Yes, will definitely keep you posted. :)
Hey! Sounds like we have two more to buy the beer.... err... drink the beer with us on Friday/Saturday night! O0
I'd love to go but as always, WBC takes precedence. If we ever become independently wealthy I'll be going to all the Cons.
The GrogHeads Central Command event matrix for Origins is officially submitted! As soon as I hear that it's approved, I'll share here.
Sneak peek? Aerial dogfights, panzer shootouts, WWIII, and a revolutionary insurgency :)
See you in June in Columbus!

Rob and I should be there around lunch on Wednesday. Wouldn't mind getting in the COIN drop in... maybe I can finally learn how to play....
Be there Friday night, attend the Con Sat. and Sunday. Stick around for cleanup.
What time Friday? You will need many drinks to get up to speed after that trip.... :D
It'll depend on 1) traffic and 2) what time I leave that morning. It's nice of you to offer to buy though. Must be that scientist money you make ;)
Ha! I wish..... :(

Quick question for you vets, do I have to do anything special to get my ticket? Or, having paid for it, do I just pick it up at the con?
pick up in pre-reg line, but expect the line to take a few minutes. Since you're not GM'ing with us, I won't have it with the group's.
Thank you, sir. I knew you would know O0
I'm flying back from a business trip on the 17th. I'm thinking of coming down to walk the vendors area and try to meet a some of you guys. Is there any special tickets I need to get to get into the area you all will be in.
Aside from a normal ticket to the convention, you don't need anything special to get where we are
Thanks.
just a note though - all of our events are ticketed events, so unless you grab a random empty table for a pickup game, you'll still need some generics to play in the actual events.

Yes, come by and watch. If you buy generic "coins/coupons", you can use those to get in on games as well if there are not enough ticketed entrants. Generics can be refunded if not used.

It's been permanently parked in Columbus ever since GAMA took it over. GAMA's offices are literally across the street from the convention center in downtown Columbus.

It's my own fault, of course, but dammit I wish I'd seen this sooner. I'd have ordered a shirt for my friend Amy (also a big Star Wars/Zahn fan) so I could've brought it with next week to get his signature on it. Now, though, there's almost no way it would get here before I leave Thursday morning. D'oh!

Perfect. I'm raiding the freezer.
Jägermeister again?
We got 12 folks to show up today for an event that officially only seated 8. We worked it out - 3 simultaneous games of Liberty or Death.
We had 9 for the team game of A Distant Plain, which kind of turned into "COIN on fast-forward" but was actually a decent bit of fun.
Wing Leader had a handful of players, and Night of Man got another 4. LNL Tactical got 5 for one of the sessions, but none for another one.
The only games that haven't drawn a bunch of players were Sergeants! Hell on Wheels games.
We've also had Lost Battalion shooting some video of their gameplay on their short demos, and LNLP has Wing and a Prayer and Hollow Cell on their demo tables that people are digging.
All in all, day one was pretty busy and people seem to be having fun, which is a giant bag of "win" in my book :)
Awesome! Can't wait to get there!
Costume photos up tonight!
It was great meeting you guys last night. I'm definitely going to do a better job of clearing my calendar next year.
When I got home last night, I found Olivia playing Call to Power. Neither one of us has played for a long time, so we'll have to figure it out again. But I'm determined to try and get more into this time. Maybe it's time to breakout Settlers?
OJsDad, sorry I missed you. Was looking forward to meeting you. Maybe next year.
Speaking of next year, if you are reading this thread, you must have at least a passing interest in attending. Or at least living vicariously through those that do. Let me tell you, do it. Come and have a blast. I have no doubt that those of you I have interacted with on here would truly have the best time you have had in many a year. I can't stress enough how awesome the venue is, how easy Columbus is to get around, how good the food at Barley's is and most importantly, how truly awesome the people are.
I had the great good fortune of meeting Brant, Martok, Barthheart, Cyrano, Cap'n Darwin, Jim Sterrett, Robert Crandall, Mark Walker, and panzerde. All are outstanding people and I can't wait to meet them all again.
Do yourself a favor, start planning now to be in attendance next year. You will not regret it.

Thanks to everyone who joined us at Origins!
We had a blast and we hope y'all did, too.
Keep in mind that there's a lot of GAMA-ness we can't do anything about, but if you've got suggestions for us and how we handled our events and our area, we'd like to hear them. I can't promise we're going to make every change that's suggested, but I will promise that we're going to listen to your thoughts and consider them.
Also, if you joined us at Origins, please make it a point to shoot a note to our exhibitor partners and thank them. Lost Battalion Games, LnL Publishing, Enterprise Games (and by extension, GMT), Flying Pig Games, and Proving Ground Games were all great partners and we hope to have them all back next year.
Remember that all of our wrap-up coverage is still posting on the newly-renamed Schrödinger's Front Page through the end of the week.

MD, when I landed in Columbus earlier the day you flew in, we landed from the west. When landing at Port Columbus from the west, you get to fly right over The Shoe. If you have a window seat, you can usually see one of the end zones. Were you lucky enough to see it or did you not even realize you were flying over.
Brant, as I told you, I hadn't been able to come down for a few years. I really like the layout of the two main exhibit halls.
