Title: Enter Friday
Post by: Anguille on December 03, 2021, 05:14:14 AM

Don't have so much time to play since a few months...

Plan to play some:

- Stellaris (with an aquatic race)
- Pax Nova
- Stronghold Warlords

Is Pax Nova feature complete yet ?

More Gloomhaven for me....absolutely  love it though my success rate in the Campaign dungeons is hardly stellar.

Playing some Campaign structured MP Field of Glory 2 as well (as Syracuse) and have just managed to take my first city from the Greeks whilst Carthaginian  forces are moving ominously eastwards towards my territory.

I would say so. The game had one free update (Frostborn) and 2 dlcs (the last one came out in november).

Wow that's a good song and video.  Is that David Caradine doing sign language?  He looks like Kill Bill.

I picked up Rome Total War Remastered and Civ6 over the Steam sale so will probably spend time with those this weekend.  I'll also be playing New World.

He's also an actor but it's Paul Raci

Elise Trouw is a young singer/artist who is absolutely brilliant.

After about 10 hours of GreedFall I have had enough, which is pretty disappointing because I thought I would love the game. The quests are dull as is the world and the travel system from location to location is terrible. I think Witcher 3 spoiled me to all other RPGs for a long time. Oh well.

To salve my digital wounds I am going for the warmth and comfort of Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition and started playing the Portuguese colonial African campaign. It is fun but it is kicking my arse! Also set up a skirmish as the Portuguese (they are a fun faction to play) against (IIRC) the Malay and one other civ (I forget which).

May also fire up A Plague Tale, Total War: Attila (1212 mod), AssCreed: Revelations and Cossacks 3 this weekend.

Enjoyed the song Ang....thanks.  Never heard of the band and could have done without the old guy's antics (and that's coming from me at 70 years old).....but the song was great.  With WDS releasing all those new download links with each game updated I got back into the Tiller games.....they still play great and now look even better.

David Caradine is long dead. He accidentally killed himself at the age of 72 trying to perform autoerotic asphyxiation. What a way to go.

Planning for a quiet day tomorrow so I'll be setting-up my WitE 1 Grand Campaign finally. So, naturally the whole world will probably beat a path to my front door.  :pullhair:  And, watching some great football games I hope. Have a great first weekend of December Grogs.  :bd:

^ It's a pretty tragic story, actually.

As for gaming, I'm thinking of booting up Cold Waters with the Ultimate Mod and playing a Russian Papa class sub in the 1984 campaign.

I've got a pretty busy weekend ahead, much delayed maintenance at Casa Toonces, plus Xmas decorations going up and such, so gaming time might be somewhat limited.  Or maybe not.

Heresy!  Blasphemy!  Vile fiends etc etc.!

There is only one true Enter Sandman!   :tickedoff:

Metal nerding aside, this weekend will likely be more Tabletop Simulator as I continue some campaigns in Six Gun Sound and the No Country for Old Men scenario I wrote.  I GM'd the game for my buddy, and he went on a pretty wild adventure before getting his head caved in by an Indian, which we decided was the most appropriately fitting way for a settler in the Old West to die.   #:-)  :hide:

Maybe some Company of Heroes 2 or the beta for 3 while I've got my RTS hat on.

Enter Sandman is not one of the better Metallica songs (part of a weak album), this singer looks way hotter and Metallica is only the soft version of Slayer  \m/  >:D .

Gaming wise more Elite Dangerous.

Everything you said is 100% true.  I just felt a bit cock-blocked coming into this thread expecting riffs and getting whatever genre that other band plays.  Riff-blocked?   :-"

Weak relative to the absolute riff salads that are the first 4 albums.   :coolsmiley:

Their aim with that album was to enter mainstream music– or as the Lars Ulrich said, to "cram Metallica down everybody's fucking throat all over the fucking world."

So for real Metalheads this album is not rough enough, to polished (compared to other like Kill' em All or Master of Puppets).

Why shouldn't they want to cram Metallica down everyone's throats? It's their livelihood.

I can understand the 'riff salad' argument better. But either way, I digress.

Conversations like this never get anywhere so I bid you a fond 'ok.'

Well, Pete's point is inherently tied to the "riff salad" argument.  Obviously nobody can knock Metallica for wanting to get big and make a living off their music.  But what metal nerds like myself and Pete dislike is when bands water down their music in an intentional effort to create a broader and more mainstream appeal.  So instead of aiming to write killer riffs, they aim to write radio friendly catchy chorusy songs that are not necessarily bad, but not all that great compared to their early stuff.

I'm not trying to convince you not to like Metallica's later stuff BTW, just trying to explain the perspective of why some people view that material as weaker.  :)

I hear you al - and comparatively I can see that the black album is not the same as 1980s Metallica. I can only imagine what you and Dero think of St. Anger...

Wasn't that their country album ?  :2funny:

The band was close to a brake up at that time so the fact that they even made an album was good news in hindsight.

Still trucking along with GR: Breakpoint, but in true-to-form-fashion, I've just gone back and started the whole main storyline over again with another character - BUT - with a lot of the fiddly HUD whatnot turned off from before and with amped up enemies which, in turn, makes it much, much more nail-biting.  Think I'll be with this game for a bit more, so big ups, Ubi.

Re: Metal.  Am digging "stoner/doom/sludge/drone rock," for all my relaxed metal needs as of late.  Otherwise, will crank my Lamb of God et al.  And, to be that guy, I unabashedly like Ghost too.

So, pee on Metallica.  Only good group to stand the test of time is Iron Maiden.

My staple has been Star Citizen for the last week and will probably continue to be so for some time.
Company of Heroes 3 multiplayer alpha week is another I have been playing

I am excited for the new il2 Tanks (STug and Churchill) that are on pre-order offer, not biting until I know whether new infantry mechanics promised are actually coming...ok I know I will bite anyways. That was the big news for the week really.

Judas Priest tho.  Firepower was actually a damn good album.

By the way, if you like sludgy droney stoner doom, you should absolutely check out Ride for Revenge.  They're basically what happens if you take Finnish black metal and meld it with sludge/doom.  One of my favorites when I'm excessively drunk or high.

Getting back to the music debate I try to see both sides of the discussion. Trying to change your sound may consider you to be "selling out" to the long term fans but music genres really only have about a 8-10 yr window before fading out to niche. For example, disco in the mid to late 70's, new wave in the early 80's, hair metal through the 80's, grunge in the early 90's. I can't blame a band for trying to stay popularly relevant but if the sound changes too much I can easily walk away.

Aerosmith was successful in bringing a new generation of fans but I hated pretty much everything they did after pump. The Rolling Stones really just wanted to be a blues rock band but success was not in that direction.

But I do agree that what Metallica was died with Clint on that bus.

Anyway, I kinda got hooked on Loop Hero, also want to spend more time with Inscryption and I started a new Oxygen Not Included map. Maybe some Cyberpunk if I can find a solid chunk of time

My opinion as well.
I saw them in Lund a day or before the accident. Cliff played a amazing bass solo. James had a busted arm and only played a couple of songs, they had a backup guitar player.

The only game i played recently is Battle brothers and the campaign(s) continues.

One band that has stood the test of time is Nine Inch Nails. They are as great today as they were in 1990. Trent Reznor is a rock god.

Went Clint died on the bus, I ditched metal all together and went punk rock and never looked back.  Black Flag nervous breakdown is my timeless masterpiece.
