Blood Bowl 2 is just 2.99 and with all the dlc is 6.74 which amounts to a 75-80% discount if you like the franchaise.

The Underground one is the bee's knees for me; specially when you get that jump scare from a Hunter dropping in to ruin your day.

Not on Steam but on UbiSoft Connect...accidentally bought AssCreed Valhalla as I was trying to cash in come 'coin' but they were not applicable because it's a new release. Oh well. Don't tell The Wife  >:D

Probably going to be pretty light for me. So far, I only have Operation Citadel in my cart.

Highly recommend "Generation Zero"...atmospheric, huge open world that has a definite "Far Cry" feel to it. Well done overall. Allows the player to use multiple tactics (from sniping to old fashioned SMG run and gun) to defeat mysterious robots that have suddenly appeared to take over the countryside. The game is about $8 with the sale, and is a steal at that price.

I haven't played an MMO in many years.  What's the current state of Fallout 76' on Steam for $13.19.  I know it got bashed when it first came out so I'm hesitant to jump in.

I don't own it because I do not MMO and hate people, but I have seen that Fallout '76 has been patched up the wazoo so it's got to be better than it was upon release.

Campaigns for the Spitfire and one I forgot :) (ETA: F-86)

And that on the day it is free anyway...

I love the Simon Stålenhag books and paintings that inspired it, but I heard a lot of mixed reviews about the game. Maybe for $8 it's worth the plunge.

I have about 20 hours of playtime so far...loved every second of it. I have not noticed any gameplay issues...except that you really have to do some tactical thinking, or the game will trounce you. As the game progresses, you are introduced to ever more dangerous robot types. You then have to find a tactic to defeat each of these. For example, the early "runner" robots can be fast, but when they pause, a well aimed sniper round to their fuel tank turns them into a ball of fire. Or later, some of the more heavy robots can be killed by exploding a small LPG tank under them. Anyway, great fun and no regrets.

The game world is believable and gorgeous.

However, its not all wonderful. The inventory interface takes a little getting used to. The game only lets you save a spawn points. Also, when you are killed, the game forces you back to a spawn point...sometimes they are quite far away. I find myself missing Bethesda's standard save anywhere feature.

I'm thinking about picking up one of the two Command Ops 2 scenario packs I don't have yet but I haven't played the others yet and Bradley at Bay is tenatively looking to be out in February so I may just hold off.

I'm doing pretty well distracting myself from potential sales (and a lot of other more important things) this year, messing with Tabletop Simulator.  :coolsmiley: I may be able to make it out of the season without any purchases at all!

...

.......

...hm, wonder if TTS has any newish modules on sale? I always like to support the devs. And Tabletopia for that matter...

Do you like the table top simulator?

Very much. I may have to learn some scripting to create better notecards, and I'm not good at figuring out how to find and set up "tables" and "backgrounds" -- the actual area to play in. It's so great for solo, or for character-playing multiplayer. And if you can get some friends together, it's like being together with a real table -- except better in many ways because the host can copy-paste things, or even undo for serious problems, and setup is easy as pie (as long as there are saves to work from). Rule reminders can be attached to areas and pieces, some scripting can be set up ahead of time (if you know LUA, which I don't yet) for automating some things (including initial setup). TTS has a crazy number of modules now, so we can play out-of-print things or stuff we own but can't get all together on. (Or 'steal' plays of course, but often modders will take official Vassal material made public by publishers with permission, like most of GMT's catalog, and work from that.)

For example, four of the Crisis Grogs group (including our ArizonaTank, although Larry isn't in this particular game) are occasionally playing 1761: Canal Age to Rails (or whatever the title is), which is a recent 18xx game, now out of publication and freakishly difficult to find, as a way of teaching most of us the 18xx rules, because this game has a wonderful design of introducing 18xx concepts and rules progressively as the game goes along. A TTS modder has provided most of the 18xx series with similar scripting tools on each mod -- which is great -- but we're actually working from a private sub-mod where I added some extra information books. Three of us just got finished going through two or three full games of Churchill this way, too.

Meanwhile, I'm playing RAF: Lion vs Eagle 2-player solo (I own both single-player games for PC), based off a fine TTS mod which I've heavily modded up to place rule reminders around the board, and set up a secret area for Eagle player to work (in a potential two-player game for real). I'm recording that, and may put up a video series for demonstrating the 2-player game. TTS works very well for creating video records of boardgame play, obviously!

Here on Grogheads somewhere, I used a TTS module of Fire in the Lake to create a video series representing a four-player pbem Vassal game played by the Crisis Grogs. I've also used TTS mods to create video demonstrations of how to play games I've given to my nieces, so that they can watch and learn (since we're rarely able to get together and then almost never have the opportunity or wherewithal to play games together.  :'( )

I don't have anywhere to set up a solo game of Space Hulk Death Angels or Lord of the Rings Living Card Game, both of which I own, but there are good mods which I've been modding up further privately -- especially LotRLCG for creating the fan-based Tale of the Years mega-campaign.

I legitimately wish more publishers would team up with TTS so that there are more mods to legitimately buy; there are a lot, but not many groggy ones so far, though I've got the official Warfighter Modern set, which is again a great thing to use for solo play.

Post by: JasonPratt on December 24, 2020, 12:56:00 PM
I should add that depending on what you're playing, other players don't necessarily need to have TTS. One of the 1761 players back on Tuesday was off on Christmas vacation in a cabin northeast, and his Mac Airbook was giving him Peer-2-Peer problems staying connected with the mod for some reason (not with TTS or Steam, but with the mod per se). So since this game has no hidden information at all, or even randomness, he just watched over-the-shoulder on the zoom call, though he could have also done so over Steam (with the usual 10 second processing delay, not sure how much that's a problem anymore but I assume it is).

What TTS isn't] good at, unlike Vassal for example, is asynch play where players log on and make their moves and send on to the next player. Everyone pretty much has to be there, just like a real boardgame.

Of course, if the host is acting as gamemaster and running the rules for the players, then asynch can be done to some degree. I ran a forum game of Republic of Rome off TTS for a year and a half here on Grogheads, with some further modding by me for various purposes, using TTS snapshots, and sending players private information and snapshots by pmail (mainly involving their hidden cards).

Wasteland 2 Directors Cut

Queens Wish: The Conquest
Jagged Alliance 2

GoG is also having a big sale.  I picked up Queens Wish & JA2 there so I could play them on my laptop assuming we get to travel in 2021.

I picked up The Division 2 on Ubistore

I'm glad I didn't buy this full price. It's not good at all. Another Ubisoft open world game where the player is just an errand boy for an entire planet of worthless, lazy, people who need to be saved but don't want to save themselves.

The Division 1 was better.

Good to hear. As for me, I am solidly in mid-game and having fun.

You might want to splurge on the $2.99 US Weapons pack DLC. It gives you the M-60 LMG (called N60 in game). Mid-game it comes in very handy, The weapons are available in the church stash box.

Halo Wars for some mucking around.... not really interested in anything else due to Star Citizen.

Aegis Vanguard. Swing Wing. Wings swept for landing. The wheel configuration reminds me of a modern Heavy Bomber such as the B-1B.

Picked up a few for co-op with my daughter.

Inversus Deluxe- this is a fun little simple co-op game
Over Cooked 1 - another good fun co-op
Tricky Towers- Co-op Tetris with physics and weather, a versus game.

Gifted her 7 Days to Die, so we'll start playing co-op.

Refunded Atari Vault wasn't as much fun in co-op as I thought.

Picked up Generation Zero, had my eye on it for awhile but AT's recommendation pushed me over the edge. I'm about 3 hours in and just finished the Farm mission and I'm going to be heading over the bridge to Salthamn. Died twice before i figured out how to get off the bike  :DD . I'm enjoying the more subtle approach you have to take, using the binoculars is a must, circling locations to scout. I'm enjoying enough to consider adding DLC before the sale ends.

Got some extra cash I wasn't anticipating, so I have at last invested in a rudder set and DCS Huey while it's on sale.

That ought to be enough. (Plus I can use the rudders for other things obviously, like IL-2. I'd like to get back to my He-111 campaign...)

DCS Modules

C101: Dislike this module very much and regret the purchase. I was expecting a light and nimble aircraft that would be a good proxy for counter-insurgency scenarios. Instead, I got an extremely under-powered trainer that carries a tiny payload. I can deal with all of that, but what I really dislike is how funky the flight model can be. I find myself CONSTANTLY trimming the aircraft and still seeing it pitch left and right. Maybe a crappy in-game flight model - I highly doubt this aircraft handles this bad in real life, as a small bird.

F86: Fun! Fast and nimble, with simple systems, but unfortunately also a tiny payload.

F5: Awesome! Fast and nimble, simple controls, and large payload. Reminds me of a baby F-18.

Went for something totally different and not really a game at all.  Universe Sandbox, 30% off, $19.99.   Finished a handful of the many tutorials and finding it quite addictive, but have only scratched the surface of its full potential.

I picked up the Knock on All Doors scenario pack for Command Ops 2.  May still get the Foothill of the Gods pack before the sale ends since it's the only one I don't have.  Nothing else excites me enough to pull the trigger on it.

I am tempted to get back into this game.....

I picked up The Outer Worlds for $30.  Been really enjoying this one, it has some great Fallout New Vegas: Space Boogaloo vibes.  Speaking of New Vegas, the initial conflict you have to side between is a lot more interesting and believable than the "gangers versus innocent townsfolk" opening questline in NV.  Without going too deep into it, your ship needs a generator and there are two competing settlements (the city owned by the megacorp and a group of deserters led by a "sweet grandma" type) that each have one, but the game does a pretty good job of balancing the situation and not just cramming a "good guys versus bad guys" narrative down your throat.  Both settlements are just trying to survive, and the "sweet grandma" tries to convince you that stealing the generator from the city is the "heroic" thing to do, but you can glean that doing so will actively screw over tons of people and kill the whole colony, versus just forcing some deserters to go back to their posts.

The actual looting and shooting is streamlined pretty well, and the combat is nicely satisfying.  I bluffed someone into giving me their gun, then shot 'em in the forehead with it just to see how many shots it would take, and was very satisfied to see him drop like a bag of rocks on the 1st shot.  Not like NV where an unarmored civilian takes about 15 bullets to the face before dying.  Armored enemies are a bit more bullet spongey, but the combat is a MASSIVE improvement over New Vegas and even Fallout 4.  There's a bit of jank here and there, but I'm fairly happy with this after being pretty disappointed with Cyberpunk 2077.

Well I picked up a few more things:

Elite Dangerous
Warlock of Firetop Mountain
GearCity
Freeman: Guerilla Warfare
Age of Gladiators II
Mordheim DLC

I think that'll do it for this year. No buying anything for the next 12 hours.

Instead of buying a new game I probably will play a little while, I went for a FREE Mod to an existing game I play a little. The Age of Majorian 2.1 for Attila Total War to see if that'll scratch my, 'new game' itch. It's FREE!  <:-)

Majorian? Is he a Roman Emperor? I don't know that name other than maybe having heard it once before.

The Mod begins in 475 AD and Julius Valerius Majorian is the Western Emperor and he is in pretty deep doo-doo. I don't know what he did historically but whatever it was it will almost certainly be less with me in charge. Sorry Julius.

^This sounds right up my alley as I love late Roman stuff. Do you have a link?

I got it at the Steam Workshop page for Attila TW which now since I subscribed, it's no longer coming-up. This might work.   https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2324444938

I grabbed a copy of the Free-to-play WWII themed deck building game called Kards along with the free booster pack they had on offer for Christmas.  I am having way more fun with it than I expected to.  I ended up dumping about $15 into it to get a few more card decks and the British customization pack.  I like how you build your rank as you gain wins.  I somehow lucked into building a very powerful Brit deck right off the bat despite not having a clue what I was doing and I had a 90% win/loss rate up until I hit the rank of major.  Since then I've been taking a bit of a drubbing and my win/loss is about 50% in this tier.  (Nukes....the bloody Yanks and Rooskies can get nukes....that ain't right....)

I like how each nation's starting deck feels unique and I like how you can customize them as you earn more cards.  Less keen on the weird ahistorical team mixing (eg. The US starter deck also includes Japanese cards for some reason.)   Brits are very strong on defence and get more powerful over time.  The Germans are the sort of "standard" deck and they're decent at most things, but not great at any one thing and are somewhat poor on defence.  The Soviets have a sacrificial defensive deck.  Their units sacrifice themselves to boost the overall Russian defence while hurting their opponent.  The Japanese have a sacrificial offensive deck.  Like the USSR but they sacrifice their units to inflict even more damage on their enemy.    The Yanks are a buff deck.  Cards chain abilities which make other deployed units stronger on offence and/or defence or they can boost their economy.    You can also earn minor nations cards and add them in to customize your decks.  I've got a handful of French and Italian cards but haven't used them too much yet.

Fun little game.  Come play!

Just picked up Orbi Universo and Armoured Commander II - both seem to be different enough to anything I already own that I might play them.  I know that's not usually how things work with Steam-sale purchases, but here's hoping.

I grabbed Rugby20 with 33 minutes left in the sale (so I can play my beloved Edinburgh against the pesky English, Go Scotland!).

I still have to grab a controller to play it, and I suppose I might need to learn the rules to rugby as I haven't the faintest idea how the game is played.

No games for $0.00.

I think this is a first for me.

I would be very interested in your thoughts on this compared to Conquest of Elysium 3.

I looked hard at several serious, respectable wargame type things like War in the West and Command Ops stuff, and at Fantasy Grounds for maybe running skirmish style games or even old school stuff like black book Traveller or Runequest (especially since I bought the Campaign Cartographer 3 Mapping bundle over at Humble last month and have been delving into that). And at lots of DLC for games I already own and enjoy, like Warhammer: Gladius and Battletech and Total WarHammer.

In the end all I bought was Fall Guys, which my nephews have been playing and trying to get their dad and myself to join them in. Now I am competing nightly to beat vast hordes of 10 year olds (from what I can tell, who knows?) in what would appear to be a rather simple obstacle course game with shades of Takashi's Castle, but turns out to be rather difficult to actually WIN at.

So it's come to this.

I finally picked up Jupiter Hell since I've had my eye on it for a while, plus a few other roguelikes because they were cheap.  Legion's Crawl, Haque, and Dawn of the Mexica.  Will likely spend the most time with Jupiter Hell as I really dig the tactical firearms style combat and not many other roguelikes do it.  Plus DoomRL was one of my favorite classic roguelikes, and Jupiter Hell is basically a commercial version of that.
