Hard to imagine a day when the fleet doesn't an Enterprise in service. Hope one of the Ford Class Carriers will be the next Big E.
Well, it's happened before. CV6, The Gallopin Ghost of the Hawaiian Coast, survived the Imperial Japanese Navy, but not the bean counters at the Pentagon.
As a purist, it was always annoying to me that on the last Star Trek series, the pictures in the Captains' cabin skipped the World War II version. That old pilot, Gene Roddenbury, wouldn't have made that mistake.

I never noticed that on Star Trek. You're right, Roddenbury wouldn't have let it slide.
It makes me sick to think that CV6 was scrapped. That ship deserved to be treated like the Constitution or HMS Victory.
With a name like Enterprise, she deserves either an honorable retirement, or to go out in a blaze of glory. May the next Big E soon be put in service!
Enterprise's final voyage.
