I've been on a big Marty Robbins kick lately, which led me down the tangentially related rabbit hole of western country to the 1959 John Wayne film
Rio Bravo. This scene with Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson is a real standout, and a lockdown favorite. ^-^
This weekend it'll be some
Insurgency,
Phasmophobia,
Crusader Kings III, and whatever else jumps up in rotation.

Marty Robbins now your talking :) and a John Wayne binge to boot :) Watched The Fighting Kentuckian again yesterday :) my wife never believes me when I say I haven't watched them before ;)
Computer Gaming... never know what to play these days tbh :(
Funnily enough I watched " She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" and " The Shootist" very recently. The latter was a real elegy to the Old West and Wayne gave a fine performance as a dying breed (literally) as he himself was suffering with terminal cancer at the time.
Continuing my Encased runthrough as the plot thickens and about to launch into the new Digital League season of Field of Glory 2 and Field of Glory 2 Medieval.....I saw I now have over 1500 hours in FoG2.....crazy stuff 🙂
I dunno. I never understood the whole John Wayne thing. He never appealed to me in any way and his movies always came across as really dull. I know this is sacrilegious to some requiring me to wear a Scarlett letter, but it's the truth.
In any event, Mechwarrior 5 with a new dlc campaign...some nice lineup of starting mechs. RogueTech (I'm on a battle tech kick, apparently), and maybe some dcs. We shall see...
Enjoy.

Stagecoach made him a star and Orson Wells watched that movie over and over as he worked on Citizen Kane. It was what a good director could form out of John Wayne that made him
an icon. And once you're an icon well...that's that.
I agree to an extent.
John Ford was the genius. Wayne was the iconic figure he chose as his vehicle.
This past week has been fraught with frustration gaming-wise due to something hinky going on with my internet at home. Ping is all over the place which makes any online games problematic to say the least. At least the ISP agrees with me and is sending a tech to suss stuff out next Monday.
So, to celebrate the fact that I cannot blow up anyone online in a consistent fashion, I'm hauling out the sub games (Cold Waters, Silent Hunter 3 & 4) and blowing stuff up that way.
Take that, asshole internet...thing.
Stay safe, all.

Yes. Absolutely hated it. lol
IRL watching the World Cycling Championships on the road in Belgium (something only a few people in the US will be interested in I guess).
If I hear a few more positive comments about Mechwarrior 5, I might get it this weekend (right now I don't even have the base game so I need to get the Jumpship edition).
If not it will be Age Of Wonders Planetfall.

Yep and its really only in the Ford movies like The Man Who shot Liberty Valance and the Searchers and She wore a Yellow Ribbon that he shines.
Hmm and I thought JH was John Wayne. The more you know.
More Outlast 2, Warhammer 2 and Diablo 2: Resurrected this weekend...only the '2s' I suppose...
Devoncop do you recommend Encased?

Bollocks :)
Pity that John Wayne never got into the trucker movie genre before he passed. Him spouting whatnot while piloting a manly cabover in and around smokey's roadblocks while sexing the ladies would have been fanfreakingtastic.
p.s. "California Straight Ahead," doesn't count as it wasn't 70's based.
'Sexing the ladies' hahaha
Playing Roguetech and watching the Ryder Cup.

You know they'd have done that. Same way Segal has the female character in his flicks go for his rotund akido-slappin' ass all the time.

Personally I recommend Encased without question. It's a long game as I a m only in Act One and have over 30 hours I think. I am really invested in the story which makes a nice change from high fantasy RPG's.
Scavenging is essential and things you may think are rubbish like empty tin cans in rubbish bins can be crafted into some effective grenades. I love grenades in this game....shock grenades,HE grenades and about 5 other types.
Although food and water are in the game and give health and resistance boosts and mauls effects....(eating baked beans and fizzy drinks continually is not recommended as it has predictable side effects on things such as charisma ::)
I find the UI very good and so far no bugs !
Ryder Cup plus Stellaris, Stellaris, and more Stellaris. I am absolutely determined to "get it" and make it click so I can confidently boot it up and just enjoy the experience. But I gots me some learnin' to do in the meantime...
As for Ryder Cup, I am as patriotic as the next guy, but I must say that I REALLY do not care for the booing of the European players by the US fans. A crusty old guy like me can remember the days when common courtesy mandated that respect for others was ALWAYS called for.....ALWAYS! Guess I'm just an antique now.....
Thanks devon, sending you the receipt :)
Mostly watched his movies as a kid and used to really enjoy them. Not sure if i'd still enjoy them now as a grown up. Have some on dvd so will try to revisit them with the kids at some point. The longest day was a great movie for sure.
Gaming wise.... don't know yet.

That's crummy to hear. "Boo," on those assholes.

Agree completely. No excuse for that.
I grew up in a "golf" family. My dad was a pro until he married my mom. There is no "booing" in golf, only polite clapping and subdued "ooooos" and an occasional ""aaaah". "Boos" should get you thrown off the course.
And I'm playing Old World and loving it.
I'd really like to give Jane's Fleet Command another try. I was really enjoying it until it crashed on me.
I've also got a real hankering to start up an RPG. I've yet to play through any of the Witcher series to the end, but honestly, I think I might just go to my happy place and re-start Skyrim and play through the story again. It's been a while.
^You're missing out if you don't at least try any of The Witcher games.
I did try all 3, but I've never finished any of them. I keep wanting to start from Witcher 1 and work my way through the whole series.
Playing Action PC Football - just had a great game with the Bears beating the Rams with a 49 yd pass in the last two minutes.
As for John Wayne I think his secret was that he never actually acted - he just played "John Wayne" whatever the character. This sufficed for most westerns, but as the centurion in (I think) The Greatest Story Ever Told" it was quite bizarre.

LOL! Appreciate the honesty.
I'm not sure what I'll be playing this weekend but Heroes & Generals for sure will be on the list.
I've got a hankering for a decent bus simulator but one with a career mode. Can't seem to find anything.

You just reminded me, I saw
Axis Football 2021 is out now. I quite enjoyed original; I might have to pick the 2021 version up.
BoC work. And Trying to finish up the image and description updates for Command Modern Operations. Also, may delve into Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-65) as it just went to release! I've been playing it off and on, but now that it is out, I'll give it a playthrough. Also, crank out a couple of turns in the Flashpoint Campaign AAR.

Well wife will be gone most of the day Saturday so hoping to get all my PBEM's caught up and then do a bunch of playtesting for JTS. Got several games here on my hard drive that need tested so will try and get through some playing on all or some of them.
I love Action PC Football!

I saw that. I might explore it now myself. I've also been playing on and off as well as War on the Sea. Thank you Toonces for recommending the "Tokyo Express Mod"!

I like John Wayne movies in a stereo typical cowboy that you can laugh at and enjoy because it is stereo typical. I think True Grit is probably one of his best.
Do you hate Arnie in movies as well?
MW5 punch ups for sure. Shame you are not in my time zone Jar, coop would be some fun.
Steel Division 2
World of WarshipsMaybe some
enlisted,
star citizen and
DCS (If I feel up to learning something!)
I didn't work three 12 hour shifts at the hospital this week not to play the new releases of Diablo 2:Resurrected and MechWarrior 5 on my PS4.
Happy gaming grogs and wear a mask!
Groggy
Why the ps4?
What better way to veg out on the couch in your underwear while pounding Molsens and eating leftover Chinese?
