since I finished Amnesia where you don't get any weapons or get to shoot anything I was looking for a little change of pace. This game seems to fit the bill, you know ..go from point A to point B  and shoot everything you encounter. Sometimes after work you just want to run and gun.
Nice vids!  That from Serious Sam 3?  How is it?  I remember it had some launch problems IIRC, but now it looks pretty good

Serious Sam 3 it is, I haven't had any issues playing it so far. It's what you'd expect for a linear shooter, stock up, move out and shoot everything ;D It seems to keep you moving with plenty to shoot and enough ammo usually, and so far a variety of enemies and no dead spots. You defiantly have to fight on the move, especially going backwards. Feels a little old school, uncomplicated blasting. I'm enjoying it.

They have made a number of nice improvements over the last five months.  The biggest are over 300 achievements that track your progress, as well as giving you a nice boost in credits to upgrade your mechs.  I would say Hawken is about 60% complete at this point - there is still a bunch of stuff that needs to be addressed, but the game is definitely coming together in an entertaining fashion.  I wouldn't be surprised to see it leave beta by late this year.

Despite what people say, nothing can be the simplistic fun of an unadulterated shooter.  That is why I always keep a CoD on my drive at all times.  :)

Nice screenshot, Dolan50!  I have to get back into AP one day.  Would love for them to bring the engine to WWIII one day.

I assume you are the Germans?

Nope, I'm the US commander actually. My boys in the 104th Infantry regiment, my advanced guard in the first allied counter attack towards Wiltz, have awoken to discover a company of Jagdtiger's in their midst.

As is often the case with Command Ops intel from the front lines is best taken with a grain of salt. While the assault gun company was in fact real, dawn revealed that they were in fact JagdPanzer IV/70's. Still bad news for the AT company armed with 57mm M1 AT guns, but at least a target worth firing at.

Over the course of the next day half of said Jagdpanzers were destroyed. Things turned out much better than expected at first light.

That's one of the things I like best about the game - the initial contact reports can be wildly off. It adds a great sense of realism and fog of war.

Finally decided to start my vanilla STW2 campaign:-

If memory serves, the elite troop choice for all the factions in STW1 was the Warrior Monks, it appears that the Uesugi specialise in them so im going with these guys. They're on the North coast of Japan with a decent choice of starting options. First off the bat is my older brother - shown here in the white, noone likes him and my first job is to depose him immediately and take the role of Daimyo of my clan. Like the turtle-er I am, i choose to stall a turn and instead order some more archers and spearmen

Ooops, my brother seizes the initiative and marches round my army and attacks the castle. The undefended castle. With my Daimyo, undefended in it! Even the advisor lady thinks im going to lose, please, please, please let me be able to control the reinforcements (which will be the previously mentioned marched around army)

Yes! I can control the reinforcements, thank God for that - IIRC you couldnt in earlier TW games. This should be fun, my reinforcements are coming on behind the attacking army (I'm the black banners behind the advancing white ones) - nice day for it too!!!

So, there I am meticulously lining up my forces in beautiful straight OCD lines when the enemy General comes crashing through the forest, straight into the archers!

We move up our General to boost morale..........

..........and charge in the spearmen

He's going to need a bandage on that.......

..........just in time to pull my victory face. The Daimyo was never in danger

Silent Disapproval Robot

It's the one year anniversary of the release of Iron Front.  We had a great turnout for our Saturday Iron Front MP session today.  Some great missions.  If you've got the game, I encourage you to drop in on a Saturday and give it a whirl.  (Images taken by Saghen.)

Wow!  Those really are some great screenshots from Iron Front!  Have all the bugs and launch issues been resolved then?

My screenie:

This is from my most recent Scourge of War AAR on my blog.  It shows one of my regiments fighting behind some cover as rebs approach through a crop field during a night attack.

Nope.  Multi-player is excellent and very stable.  Single player is still a train wreck as far as the official campaigns and missions are concerned.  However, there are a number of very good user made missions.  Also, the Planned Assault mission generator works with Iron Front, so you can easily whip up a variety of missions in moments and play those if you wish.

The publishers pulled the plug on the game a few months back.  There was some promising talk of the developers releasing the code thus allowing modding, but there appears to be a snag as one of the parties concerned is dragging their heels.

You can read about the possible mod project here.

I've found Iron Front to be an interesting sandbox to play with in conjunction with Planned Assault.  For the price point, it's not too bad at all provided all you want to do is goof around with all the neat stuff.  Without Planned Assault I don't think I'd buy it for single player.

LOL @ SDR!

I just went over to SimHQ and I'm looking at these screenshots thinking, "man, these sure do look familiar..."

Haha, I love it!
