In the spirit of Tanks-giving, I played a little Eagles Strike, 100 Men scenario... It was looking pretty bleak until my Shermans showed up to at least trade tank for tank with the Panthers / Tigers, and help overrun some of the Germans who had infiltrated in behind my lines:

Some screens from our Iron Front game today.  (Shots taken by Saghen at SimHQ).

First mission was a co-op with us playing as the Soviets.  Task was to ambush a German supply convoy, knock out a roadblock, and exfiltrate.  It went well.  We only lost one guy.

Second mission was a German assault across a Soviet-held bridge with the goal of securing the crossing and knocking out some AA guns on the far side.

Again, it went well and we only lost two (one from friendly fire.  He was squished by our half-track)

Great shots!

The camo on those German trucks looks a little 'off' though. I wonder if the texture file used should have been enlarged- those lines should be thicker and crisscross more. Also, there should be more dunklegelb showing. IIRC the camo was applied by the soldiers in the field and they usually only had a few cans per vehicle. That pattern looks almost post war jungle style.

Come play!  Multi-player is great!  Much more mission variety and tactical depth than you get in Red Orchestra 2.

Is Iron Front already enjoyable?  Or do I have to build my own missions since the stock ones don't work well?  Ah what the hell. I bought it since it's on sale.

The single player campaign missions are not very good at all.  They throw unrealistic goals at you and the wonky ArmA AI just compounds the problem because your AI squad mates will usually walk straight into machine-gun fire unless ordered to hold back.  Therefore you have to constantly micro-manage them and do all the work yourself.  I had kill tallies of 140+ enemies per mission on a regular basis.  That involved a tonne of trial and error, save and reload, and using a lot of cheap tactics to exploit the game's weaknesses.  If you are hoping to play offline, I would not recommend the game.  It's really only good for online play.  That being said, there are a lot of online scenarios included in the game for both co-op and head to head and a lot more available for download.  The biggest drawback is that, unlike ArmA, the Iron Front is not moddable so you're stuck with the toys they give you.

EDIT:
Patch 1.04 is now available.  I find that it really improves frame rates but the texture loading times are worse.  I get a lot of delay in how long it takes for the game to load the hi-res textures so I get a lot of crappy looking buildings and bushes for 5-15 seconds before the textures load.

indeed, was that a infantry only scenario panzerde?

I'm in the opening part of the operation, where not much armor has arrived for either side yet.  I have a battery of Panzerjaegers north of the town that I used in a prior engagement, but that have retreated to repair and rearm.  To the south I have a platoon of Marders that are still in reserve.  The Soviets have elements of a tank brigade coming from the east.

Tactical Decision-making Simulation

Marines are often confronted by the entire spectrum of tactical challenges in the span of a few hours within the space of three contiguous city blocks.2

Situation: The security situation in the country of Orange has deteriorated following the overthrow of the former dictator by local freedom fighters. The United States Marines Corps has been sent in to help restore order and stability to the country.

File: boot101.wav
Block 1: Traditional Warfighting

You are in command of 1st squad. Your mission is to secure an armory belonging to the former dictator's Internal Security Force. Some of the members of this ex-security force have gone underground. The weapons must be kept out of their hands.

File: boot102.wav
Block 1: Traditional Warfighting

The local freedom fighters have been celebrating their victory, driving around in their cars and firing their weapons into the air. They have agreed to disarm voluntarily at midnight tonight, but we need to make sure they don't try to take the weapons in the armory to secretly maintain their arms.

File: boot103.wav
(Radio message) "This is second fire team. A group of armed men is approaching our position from the north. They're wearing Orange military uniforms. Permission to open fire? Over."

File: boot104.wav
To make your decision, right-click on second fire team. You may order them to FIRE on the approaching armed men, or to DEFEND and hold their fire in an attempt to avoid combat.

File: boot105.wav (User chooses to defend)

File: boot106.wav (User chooses to fire)
(Radio message) "This is second fire team. They're throwing down their weapons and surrendering. Out."

File: boot107.wav
Mission Success
The armed men were former Orange ISF members attempting to loot the armory. They quickly surrender when taken under fire.

File: boot108.wav
(Radio message) "This is third fire team. There's a dust plume on the road and I can hear vehicles approaching from the west. Over."

File: boot109.wav (Currently used – this step was cut to shorten scenario)
(Radio Message) "This is third fire team. We've got a heavy machine gun firing to our west. I can see the tracers going straight up in the air. Sounds like the fire is coming from the approaching vehicles. Over."

File: boot110.wav (User chooses to fire)

(Radio message) "This is third fire team. The two cars kept going to the east. Looks like they're continuing into the city. Over."

File: boot114.wav
Mission Success
The vehicles were local freedom fighters celebrating their victory. They apparently had no intention of looting the armory.

File: boot115.wav
Mission Failure

The armed men where former Orange Internal Security personnel. By remaining passive you gave them the chance to rush your men and possibly gain control of the armory.

File boot116.wav
Mission Failure

The vehicles were local freedom fighters celebrating their victory. Firing on them could destroy the disarmament agreement and jeopardize efforts to stabilize the country.

File boot117.wav
Congratulations!

You have successfully completed this tactical decision making simulation. You kept the weapons in the armory secure and avoided causing an international incident that might have jeopardized our disarmament agreement with the local freedom fighters.

Block 2: Peace-keeping

A local political group, the Cerulean party, is holding a funeral for a party leader who was killed in the recent unrest. A rival group, the Crimson party, has threatened to disrupt the funeral. The Cerulean party has requested a US Marine escort.

File: boot202.wav
You are in command of 2nd squad. Your mission is to escort the Cerulean funeral party. This is an opporunity to demonstrate our commitment to restoring stability in Orange, and to earn the trust of the local inhabitants. Attempt to prevent conflict with the Crimson party if at all possible, but you are authorized to respond with force if attacked.

File: boot207.wav
To make your decision, right-click on first fire team. You may order them to FIRE on the mob blocking the funeral route or to MOVE FAST and get in between the two rock-throwing mobs in an attempt to defuse the situation.

File: boot208.wav (User chooses to fire on mob)

File: boot211.wav
(Radio message) "This is first fire team! The procession is taking sniper fire! Sniper is in a tower 200 meters to our northwest. Are we cleared to return fire? Over."

File: boot212.wav
To make your decision, right-click on first fire team. You may order them to FIRE at the tower where the sniper is located (indicated by the arrow in the upper left corner of the screen) or DEFEND to take cover and hold their current position.

File: boot213.wav (User chooses to defend)
(Radio message) "This is first fire team. The sniper is still firing at the funeral procession. The civilians are running for it now ... The procession has broken up. Out."

File: boot214.wav (User chooses to fire at sniper)
(Radio message) "This is first fire team. Looks like we got him. No more fire coming from that tower. Civilians are on the move again. Out."

File: boot215.wav
Mission Failure

The mob blocking the funeral route was a group of Crimson party supporters. Firing on them caused civilian casualties and the violence broke up the funeral procession, too. This may gravely weaken our international credibility as peacekeepers.

File: boot216.wav
Mission Failure

The sniper was a member of a radical group determined to undermine the Marine peacekeeping efforts. With no protection from the sniper the civilians broke and ran. Failure to protect the funeral procession has hurt our international credibility and may undermine our efforts to stabilize security in Orange.

File: boot217.wav
Congratulations!

You have successfully completed this tactical decision making simulation. You broke up the skirmish between the Cerulean and Crimson parties without disrupting the funeral march, and used force when necessary to protect the procession from a sniper.

Block 3: Humanitarian Assistance

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have been distributing humanitarian aid in Orange since the overthrow of the former government. Radical groups have recently begun to target the humanitarian groups in an effort to drive them out.

File: boot302.wav
You are in command of 3rd squad. Your mission is to protect a food distribution point and prevent any disruption of the humanitarian assistance operations. You are authorized to use force if necessary to protect your men or the civilians gathered at the distribution site.

File: boot303.wav
(Radio message) "This is third fire team. We've spotted four guys, about 100m north of our position. They're low crawling towards  the old trench line. Over."

File: boot304.wav
(Radio message) "This is third fire team. Those guys know we've spotted them. They're armed and making a run for the trench. Should we open fire? Over."

File: boot305.wav
To make your decision, right-click on third fire team. You may order them to FIRE on the approaching armed men, or to DEFEND and hold their positions, trying to avoid an incident.

File: boot306.wav (User chooses to fire)
(Radio message) "This is third fire team. Target neutralized. Looked like some of them might have run away to the north, but they're no threat now. Out."

File: boot307.wav (User chooses to defend)
(Radio message) "This is third fire team. The guys to the north are firing into the crowd! The civilians are running! Over."

File: boot308.wav
Mission Failure

We failed to protect the food distribution operation. This will damage our reputation as international peacekeepers and weaken our support among the local population. NGOs may begin to pull out too, further exasperating the situation.

File: boot309.wav
Congratulations!

You have successfully completed this tactical decision making simulation. You drove off the radical strike team before they could disrupt the food distribution operation. Demonstrating our ability to protect the civilians and aid workers will strengthen our reputation among the locals and help to stabilize the situation in Orange.

Tactical Decision-making Simulation

Real-Time Scenario: Family Day Disturbance  (ALSO  one file as National Holiday Disturbance)

Situation: The United States Marine Corps has been conducting stability and support operations in the nation of Orange since the overthrow of the former dictator, one year ago. Your company has been tasked with establishing instructor Cadres at the Gendarme Barracks at three different locations in the country. The company has split up into platoon-sized elements.

File: boot431.wav
A local faction has resorted to terrorism to destabilize the situation and convince the population that only they can  provide protection. The terrorists have conducted hit and run attacks against local government forces. To date, U.S. forces have not been targeted. Local intelligence sources are indicating this is going to change.

File: boot432.wav
Today is a national holiday in honor of "Family." All government offices are closed and most employees are on leave. A police post located at the east gate to the city just reported that there is a large crowd coming towards the city from the east. Following this report, the police appear to have abandoned their post.

File: boot433.wav
You are in command of 2nd squad, 1st Platoon. You are ordered to conduct a patrol to the east gate and report on the situation. Rules of Engagement:  Deadly Force is authorized to protect life.

File: boot434.wav
This scenario will proceed in real-time. To issue orders to your three fire teams, move the trackball to highlight a team and then right-click to bring up the orders menu. Select your order and then (if necessary) indicate the destination or target by dragging the targeting line and left-clicking at the destination.

File: boot435.wav
A large crowd of yelling and chanting civilians is approaching from the east. Several people in the front of the crowd are pointing at third fire team, shouting angrily, and waving the crowd forward. Once you click this message the simulation will begin.

File: boot436.wav
Post Brief:

The crowd was a funeral procession going to bury a village dignitary. Two terrorists in the crowd incited the people into throwing rocks at the Marines. The large explosion was a black-market propane gas storage facility, destroyed by a terrorist explosive device. The four men running towards the Mosque were the local Gendarme going to get a religious leader to help calm the crowd. The consequences of your decisions effect far more than just the local situation...

File: boot437.wav (Outcome – fire on crowd)
Mission Failure

News that U.S. forces fired on a crowd of civilians becomes a headline around the world in a matter of hours. This results in an international incident that damages our credibility in both the local and international community.  The newly elected government in Orange soon begins talks aimed at ending the U.S.-lead peace-keeping mission.

File: boot438.wav (Outcome – fire on gendarme or religious leader)
Mission Failure

News that U.S. forces fired into the area of a holy site becomes a headline around the world in a matter of hours. This results in an international incident that damages our credibility in both the local and international community.  Neighboring nations, whose populations are predominately the same faith as that of Orange, lodge formal diplomatic protests.  Without the support of the neighboring nations the future of the peace-keeping mission in Orange is uncertain.

File: boot439.wav (Outcome – no firing)
Mission Success

The local unrest and the destruction of a propane storage facility in Orange go largely unreported by the news media. The local religious leader extends his formal thanks to the Marines for showing restraint in a confused and threatening situation.
