A good honest article. It's sometimes disappointing to revisit a game you loved from years back. :)
I never played the original game back in the day and this release is my first exposure to it. I agree completely with the points discussed therein. The game is enjoyable in short spurts since it gets so repetitive, and is essentially an arcade shooter.
Thanks guys. It's a sad day when you can't recapture that magic. But it makes it sweeter when something new comes along.
That's always the worst part - I picked up a few old DOS games and that's when I discovered the context of when the game was released is such a critical part of how you remember it.
Same thing happened to me with Crimson Skies but worse. I had never played it when it was new and then fired it up for the first time about a year ago. Couldn't play it because it looked so dated to me. Also happened with Age of Empires II (remastered edition)...one of my favorite games ever but it's just too dated for me to play nowadays.
