One of the great things about living in England in the 80's was the their love for the B-17's.  Coming back to the states and no one seemed to know what a B-17 was.
:o

The most beautiful bomber of the era in my opinion. Such a sleek, mischievous, beautiful looking big girl. Iconic in every way

I think the B-24 looks better.  May not have been quite as sturdy but it was easier on the eyes.

The B-29 was pretty damn ugly in comparison to the others.  ;D

Neither one can compare to the Lancaster or even the Halifax (though both have more pleasing lines than the Hampden, the Stirling, or the Whitley.  Damn but those were some fugly bombers.)

Somewhere out in the wilds of West Tennessee around here is a former B-17 training base which has air shows occasionally, and one is coming up.

I will almost certainly not get to see it. {sigh} So, thanks for a pix thread.  O0

The B-25 is also sexier IMO, although it's not a heavy 4-engine bomber like the other two.  The B-17 just looks like a tube or flying cigar with a huge tail on it, to me, although not quite as bad as the '29.

Perfect vision my whole life.  Unlike many of these old men around here who complain about small text all the time.  :P

Outstanding, JD. Thank you.

There is something reassuring about seeing the wings of a Spitfire sailing overhead. The graceful lines of its wings tell me victory is assured.
All that is gold does not glitter,

The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
