Undercovergeek makes his debut splash on the article collection (http://www.grogheads.com/aar-ckii.html), with a meaty take on CKII.

Ditto that! This should be good.
I already have Part 2 in my hot little hands...
Share! >:(
A great start geek, lets have some more!
give it a few days, lads. we've got a doozy coming on Wednesday first ;D
thanks all so far - its weird as hell playing as a count - being subservient to my liege AND the HRE - and having a possibility of being their Spymaster or whatever - very odd but a also very immersive, much more decision making to be made as a count
Looking forward to reading it! Thanks for writing it.
Good start, ucg. It's whetting my appetite for my (hoped for) purchase of CK II in the upcoming Steam Labor Day sale.
Great start to the AAR and with just the right amount of 'ham'. :)
Excellent.

Undercovergeek.
If I could be so bold as to request every once in a while you post a shot of the wider state of europe.
I've found in playing you get so focused on your own little corner that the rest of Europe can develop in interesting ways that will bite you in the ass!
IE My unification of Ireland was going swimmingly until king dies and leaves his 10 year old son in charge. Next month Norway (!) shows up with 10000+ troops and wants and takes it all.... I zoom out and see that Norway actually won the power struggle for England and controls it, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and most of Finland.... ack! :o
^ Fear the Norse!
absolutely - great idea - the next 2 installments are in with LB
Part 2 is up today. y'all enjoyez-vous
Another good read. Go Parma!
Since you are in charge of Parma, a technical question.
Can you enhance research into the cheese? Developing this world renowned resource could fill your coffers rapidly.
And developing Parmigian-Reggiano cheese this early could make your Duchy quite the place for the jet-set to visit.
A fine vacation spot after your Crusading, or despoiling efforts.
This would be the high technology of the era!
Another great read. Thats a nice gesture for your dad hooking him up with an 18 year old :)
heh - thanks guys - i thought it was a nice touch for Dad, and as for the Cheese, im on it and the ham
Been a blast playing as a count, theres some really crazy stuff heading your way
At the point you are at in the AAR right now (Part 2), how many hours have you been playing?
Gus - about 45 mins
Woke up this morning to find part 3 on the front page. It was nice to start the day with some laughs!
youre welcome tent - its always a pleasure to write these
Excellent as ever Geek, one day I hope to read the book of the film of the stageplay of the mini TV series!

We'll just need to make ourselves a bunch of Amazon sockpuppets and then we can five-star Geek's book all the way to the top!
Dianetics' bestseller days are numbered... :D
Nice wordplay, geek. Having a much better understanding of gameplay now, I enjoy this AAR even more :-)
Heh. I always get some good laughs reading his AAR entries. Thanks 'geek!
thanks for all feedback guys - im a few 'parts' down the road and the story gets better - who ever suggested it 'count' is definitely the way to play the game
Those accordian toting Bulgarians are enough to scare 7 sorts of crap outta anybody.....ear plugs at the ready....on the word of command.....Insert!
How would Bulgars with accordians and ocarinas stand up to Highlanders with bagpipes and kilts?
i think the Bulgarian facial hair tips it just in their favour - although a charging highlander with ginger beard can be quite fearsome
If it all comes down to hair, why even consider the damage from a bagpipe or accordion?
In fact, if we do not limit the forces to hair above the shoulders, the Highlanders might have a great advantage if they do a Braveheart. Kilts make that easy.
good AAR, here's hoping for the best outcome.
thanks windi, in the end it takes a lot more sorting than i imagined
Keep up the good work undercovergeek it is an enjoyable read.
^+1 I'm really enjoying it (any piccies of Jennifer?) :P
lmao - you want the 'horrible bosses' kind (oh dear lord), or the 'Breakup' kind (even more dear Lord!)
I'll leave the techie stuff to you mate. Just make sure its got boob's in it will ya.
Another good entry. Looking forward to more.
Nicely done, geek. Every time I read one of those, I learn more. Soon, it will be enough to take over the world MWUHAHAHAHAHAHA!
thanks guys - it was a bit of a mission to get that 'wrong demesne holding' warning figured out, a very lengthy exchange of posts over at paradox and it all became clear! Hope it helps any other players.
Excitement and fun is ramping up in the game.... im on part 10 so am a bit further forward
it is good to read... and squint at the screen shots so hard my nose bleeds trying to read the dam stuff

Sad to see Oberto get his head crushed in, good thing you had a son to keep it in the family.

yup, theres no coming back from a mashed head - its just a question of time
Is there any status on this AAR? Was really enjoying it, and would love to see how it concludes.
waiting for UCG's hand to heal so's he can finish all his, uh... "typing" ;)
Keep up the good work, UCG. :)
it's a good read. Sometimes I forget I'm supposed to be setting up HTML and read instead

Can't blame you it is an entertaining read!
Great stuff, Geek - you could flesh it out a bit and make it into a book - I'd buy it mate, honest!
lol - its coming along nicely now as the territory and family expand - it only gets better for the Di Parmas
new episode up today
Wow it is not safe to be Di Parma relative. ;)
OK - it's still Thursday in Hawaii, so it's still AARsday and we got part 14 of CKII up for your enjoyment

Great update
ucg! Glad to see the di Parmas' sense of humor remains fully intact. :D
@brant: Not sure if you were aware of this, but... On the left side of the front page (under "Articles"), the first part of the CK2 AAR link (the part that says "Crusader Kings II") erroneously links to part 10. Only the second part of the link ("AAR, Part 14") actually links to part 14.

yikes.
I'll get it fixed, but it might take a day or so - I have to help out w/ district Pinewood Derby today.
No worries, chief. I just figured I ought to point it out so no one else would get confused. :)

I've not missed an update yet (although I'm sometimes a day or two late in reading it). :)
So exactly how many kids is Oberto up to now? And here is to hoping your bank account holds out so you can properly prosecute your war.
in case you missed it, the latest installment is on the front page
Dear me. It appears the Emperor is determined to piss in Oberto's cornflakes...

lmao, you got that right!
i cant believe he gave my duchy away - to a guy i elevated to a suitable position
On the other hand, Sicily is getting hammered by Muslims - if i time it right i can sweep in and take it all and be my own King
new article today
http://grogheads.com/?p=4388
Hmm. It appears Countess Alberada is not long for this world...
Oberto is dead?! Say it ain't so!!
hes gone to the great big........... wherever Italian dukes go to, in the sky
the realms all over the place! its going to take some fixing - benvenuto is prime for assassination with only a daughter next in line!!
I love this AAR! :smitten:
lol, thanks boggit
Gah, I missed the most recent entry on this one! :-[
Nice job, geek. Considering Benvenuto didn't have a lot to work with, I'd say obtaining a white peace with both brothers and getting them both imprisoned is pretty damn good!
the most nervous ive been playing CKII - if the brothers would have coordinated the attack it would have been over - the surrender terms were Benvenuto abdicates and his daughter takes over then the realm would have collapsed with a kid in charge
as it is....... well it gets a bit weird, then gets a bit crazy and then gets awesome

Well you certainly have me intrigued -- again... :P
Ha, the back-and-forth skullduggery with your brothers and nephews is awesome. Most entertaining!
What was with the rotating prisoners, btw? Some sort of bug?
i think so, i dont think theres a limit on the prisons guest size, as soon as one went into prison, the other got released - i got notified, it didnt come as a total surprise, i just cant understand why
in case you missed it - part 28 hit the screen yesterday
I'm simply amazed at how long Matilda has managed to be a thorn in your side -- she's practically become a fixture in your AAR. What will you do when she finally shuffles loose the mortal coil?
Dance on her grave..... her heir is my uncle but I can't manipulate that in anyway
well done on the AAR so far. CKII is really addictive. I've started out as the Parma's but wasn't able to get them that far. I started as head of the Duchy of Apulia next, and now I'm close to creating the Duchy of Sicily around 1241, just as the Mongols are knocking on Europe's door. So far my Queen's appear to be the best rulers in the family (two of them so far).
yep, we're all the way up to #29 on an AAR that started in 2012
Gotta love that corrupt Sicilian clergy. >:D
New today!
QuoteStanding at the top of Caspian Hill overlooking Bari stands Benvenuto, dew has formed on his armour, his pennants fluttering in the breeze. Giovanni finally reaches him, his Lord looks blinkingly at him, his brow furrowed. 'WTF, Giovanni, I mean just, WTF?' Giovanni shrugs, 'Shall we invade Sicily instead?'
Quote'A holy war you say?' says the Lord Spiritual, 'In that case, forget your mustachioed heroes of wherever, we can hire................. THE KNIGHTS TEMPLARRRRRRR!!!!'
Benvenuto right there invents the fist bump
Laugh. Out. Loud.
This entry is going to have me chuckling all day... ;D
Wow!, that's serious dedication.

Nope, no way... don't go to the front page and read the new installment... I mean, that would totally be breaking y'all's tradition of completely ignoring the fact that we have a front page!

Hehe I saw that. Yeaaah that's what I told people today :)
and part 32 just landed today
http://grogheads.com/?p=7590
Nicely done as ever,
geek!
I would've guessed that uniting Italy is the next step, except that I suspect you'll be having to prepare for a possible succession very soon... :(
QuoteSo enraged is Benvenuto he grows an extra long beard and it turns white
TEEHEE
after a 2-month hiatus, we're back!
Oh dear. Well at long as Benvenuto's happy... :P
So did you arrange for Oberto to be appointed Regent, geek? Or does that just automatically happen when your family's ruler goes a bit, ah, around the bend?
It's automatic, I think it's always the heir when it's an old monarch, when it's a young monarch without heirs I think it's the chancellor as most senior court member
Family d'Ham is back in action this week :)
finally.... FINALLY - there's another one :D
Whoops! Guess you should've held onto your second boy after all. :-\
Also: LOL at the Bawb-stache reference. ;D
