Anyone checking this one out?  Evil Genius 1 was sort of a failed attempt at a great concept, basically Dungeon Keeper meets James Bond supervillains.  It was not a very good game, but it had a lot of heart.  This installment seems to be an attempt by Rebellion to do right by the series and provide a solid base management game.  The new game releases in about a week, but at $40 it's a bit steep for the series' rocky history and the tendency of base builders to have a rough launch in today's market.  Maybe it will be awesome - who knows?

It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge.  War endures.  As well ask men what they think of stone.  War was always here.  Before man was, war waited for him.  The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.  That is the way it was and will be.  That way and not some other way.

If they made nothing but WWII games, I'd be perfectly content.  Hypothetical matchups from alternate history 1980s, asymmetrical US-bashes-some-3rd world guerillas, or minor wars between Upper Bumblescum and outer Kaboomistan hold no appeal for me.

I guess it's sort of nice that the word "tactical" seems to refer to some kind of seriousness during your moments of mental clarity.

Yeah the first game became more of a puzzle solver rather than a base builder.

I am intrigued but going to wait for some reviews and let's plays drop to see if it is what I'm looking for.

I'm holding off for now. Some of the youtube reviewers I trust are saying wait for a deep sale.
