Very short trailer here, with more to be revealed at E3 in the next few days. So far we know there is a giant wall, monsters, a sci-fi theme and power armor.
Will be keeping an eye on this one with interest.
Never played Destiny and I'm not sure I will - mainly because I wouldn't want to play it on my own and my friends probably won't get it at this stage. But this is more The Division than it is Destiny (although The Division was also trying to be 'like' Destiny) and I really enjoyed my time with the Division so this could be cool
Cringe-worthy how staged the gameplay trailer was during the MS conference.
Anything with power armor is pretty much an instant buy for me.

Yup.
Cataphracts - everyone loves'em.
I genuinely thought "Anthem from Bioware" meant they had released some sort of company song for a second. Then I realised it's just some new game. Disappointing.
I'll have the corporate anthem up in a bit.

Is it the imperial death match?
After the shitshow Bioware's last two releases have been I cannot say I'm even cautiously optimistic. I'm firmly in the realm of guilty until proven innocent, i.e. Prove to me that you are making a good game not one to sell to the brainwashed masses

Did you play Andromeda, or just take somebody's word for it? If you played, how much?
IOW, I disagree. See my review at http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=19143.90 (scroll down).
People also sometimes forget that Bioware is made up of several studios. AFAIK, Anthem is being made by Bioware Edmonton who are the original Bioware studio and who made the Mass Effect Trilogy and the Dragon Age games.
Bioware Montreal made Mass Effect: Andromeda though, and before that they made the Mass Effect DLCs.
So there's still hope, but The Division encountered a lot of problems trying to do a game almost exactly like this. Hopefully Bioware/EA observed that process and learnt.
This is turning into a Total War style, steel cage thread. FIGHT!

Hahaha YES

Godzilla: Total War
The Anthem PC demo is now freely available via Origin.
It's actually pretty fun, though could use some improvements.
I'll try the demo on PS4 this weekend, but from what I've seen so far it looks like a poor man's Warframe. I'll give it a go with an open mind though.
I'll be trying out the demo on PS4 with my mates this weekend too.
We're deciding if we want to grab this, or The Division 2 which launches a few weeks later.

Funny thing to say considering Warframe is free and Anthem is expensive :P

I had the same dilemma briefly, but then I realised that I'm more or less guaranteed to like TD2 so I'm going with it. I'm just trying Anthem out of curiosity.
Tpek: Haha, yes, but Anthem - from what I've seen so far - seems to be a much less fun version of the same game. ;)
Besides, I've probably spent more money on Warframe than any other game in my life!

Guess it's because you can't fish up old worn boots in Anthem :))

Literally unplayable. ;)
Well I just tried the demo and I was pretty underwhelmed.
- You can only fly in short bursts and keep being dumped out of the sky, to wait for a recharge
- Gunplay is very poor - the gun felt underpowered, unsatisfying and every enemy typically needed a whole magazine to kill. Melee was more effective! :idiot2:
- Voice doesn't seem to be enabled by default making communication with my pub squad impossible - making the final puzzle of the mission almost impossible to get through
- Loading times are horrid - missions don't take place in a single map and every transition to a different area involved staring at a loading screen for about 15 seconds - your squad is also forced to travel with you when you make the transition
- Movement is clunky and slidey; lining up for a melee attack, for example, is a lot harder than it ought to be
Finally, when we did complete the mission, the game promptly crashed so I couldn't even see the results. Fucking brilliant.
I doubt I'll play it again.
Edit: I forgot another couple of bits:
- You're forced into first person in the main base - no hanging around showing off your
warframe javelin, it seems - and you can't run either. So you just traipse around the base until you finally get to whichever NPC you need to speak to - When you die you have to wait to be revived by a teammate. So if you go down early and your squad are happily mopping up the enemy, expect to just stare at a respawn screen until someone finally comes to revive you, or the rest of the squad wipes
^you are unabashedly biased so your insights and feelings on this game must be treated with suspicion and caution. Sort of like Gus' underwear.
Oh gawd those Base parts...
The way you have to move so very slowly and can't even jump just drove me insane.
I keep receiving 'Error in retrieving Anthem live service data'.
Not played a single minute yet. 🤔
^ biased!
How is sharing I keep getting an error has got anything to do with being biased, you nobber!
Your underpants is biased (and coloured. from the inside.)
:uglystupid2: ;)
I'm absolutely not biased actually. I want more options for gamers, and I won't be playing Warframe forever. I wanted Anthem to be good.
I will call a spade a spade though, and Anthem - based on what I've seen so far - is not very good. At all. I'm also amused, in a morbid fashion, that EA/Bioware can't match what a little indie studio in Canada can do.
I was amazed that this thing completely taxed my CPU - went up to 55-60% usage.
My PC has a little age on it but this is just plain silly / lazy.
I'm also firmly in the mindset of never buying an EA game at full price - EVER.
You warframe guys sure cant take a joke.
I did realise you were only half serious Jarhead, but I thought it was a point worth making.
And it has nothing to do with being a "Warframe guy", don't be silly.
I actually wasnt serious at all. I haven't seen a positive review of the anthem demo yet. You're not the only one that doesnt like it.
Yeah, and it's a damn shame. When I saw the first gameplay video months ago I was pretty excited about it.
I guess some of the issues will be cleared up in time; I'll take another look at it much later on.

Custom tailored...a thimble with a rubber band.
That should more than.....cover it.
Not according to your mom(s).
:coolsmiley:
Managed two pretty decent sessions of the Beta over the weekend. Only got to Level 13 because the end-demo dungeon has a crash bug in it so we kept getting dropped, but I did unlock a new Javelin - chose the Storm, which is fun when you learn how to use it properly.
Me and my friend group have adopted a 'wait and see' attitude on both this and The Division 2, and playing hasn't changed that for me. I think I'm still leaning towards D2 at the moment, but only because I miss having a cover system.
But there are bits of Anthem I enjoyed and can appreciate. A little bit underwhelmed by the 'archetypes' the game offers to you - I'd quite happily main as the jack-of-all-trades Ranger, but it seems to not have anything it genuinely excels in. Diversity in itself is not a strength in a game about numbers.
I had fun with the Storm, don't get be wrong... just got to float about like some kind of badass and rain lightening down on people.
My two friends each tried the Colossus and the Interceptor... the Interceptor's melee focus sounds interesting on paper but not sure how well it fits into this particular game. I'm reminded of how uncomfortable melee is in Warframe.
Colossus is just a tank with a literal shield - it's never been an archetype I've been drawn too.
Yeah it was ok. Fights are chaotic and it can be hard to know what's going on (which made me miss cover). A lot of things didn't explain themselves that well, and we didn't make use of combos as much as we could of. Technical performance of the demo was largely good, except for the dungeon crash.
