I'm gonna skip brant - I know it's not a huge effort but I can't commit this year, if you need me to even out the numbers I'll be there

I remember Bison saying he may not be able to run it this year due to prior commitments.  If so, he was going to hand the Commissionership off to me.  I'll let him come in and verify.

If he does make me Commish, then I am going to change some things: more Bench spots, more DL spots, higher IP requirements each week, and I would insist on a live draft.

If he takes up the reins again, I would really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, I've been commissioner for 10 years between here and the previous place.   I looked forward to and enjoyed the fantasy baseball season, because it was another way to enjoy my favorite sport.  However I'm juggling a number of life priorities right now, so it's the perfect time to step aside and let someone else run the show.  Good luck MD and everyone who plays this season.

It'll be a different season without you, Bison.  Thanks for doing such a great job over the years.  And I expect to hand the reins back over next year.  Bring some sanity back after my one year experiment ;)

Unfortunately I just need to cut a few extracurriculars out this summer and fall.  I'm pretty swamped and life gets crazier this summer.  Mostly I just know that I'd struggle to keep my rosters updated.

So, the season opens Sunday, April 2nd.  I would like to have the draft the weekend before.  That way, most roster moves and most injuries will be known and taken into account in your drafting plans.  I am soliciting days and times here for the draft.  Anywhere from Friday night after work on the 24th to Sunday before bed on the 26th.  Whatever seems to work best for the majority will most likely win out.  And for those of you that aren't thrilled about a live draft, I will say two quick things: 1) Auto draft still works in a live draft.  If you set your rankings, like you might already do each season, then, when your turn comes in the live draft, the AI will make your pick according to your rankings.  2) Picking your team allows you to craft the (mostly) exact team you want.  And that's a pretty awesome feeling in my experience.

As for the other changes, the Innings Pitched requirement in order to have your accrued weeks statistics count towards your matchup will be raised from 20 to between 25 and 30.  There will be at least two more Bench spots.  Upon review, two DL spots may be enough.  If I remember correctly, most of you were in favor of a limit on the number of moves you can make during the year.  I am in favor of no limit at all.  However, I am willing to compromise and adjust the number upwards to 60 or 80.  Maybe even a 100.

I hope you all will sound off shortly on how you feel about the above and let me know if you will be participating this year and when you would like to hold the draft.  Thank you, Bison, for keeping us going for the last 10 years.  Hope you will return next year.  So I can get revenge for you beating me last year.

do we need to add a pitcher spot based on changing the innings?

I thought about putting another SP spot.  5 more innings a week I don't think would require it, but, 10 would.

I'm in again, though I barely know what I'm doing managing the team last year, so I'd rather my team be auto drafted.

Not a problem.  I've seen autodrafted teams win the whole thing before.  If you have any questions about running your team, I'd be glad to answer.

Thanks MD.  I was getting the hang of it in the last half of the season.  I just don't trust myself to draft a team from scratch.

No problem.  Contrary to what I might project, I would much rather help someone learn and understand how to play than take them out behind the woodshed and whoop them with their lack of knowledge.  My goal every year is win a league filled with knowledgeable and engaged participants.

The reason for the limit on transactions is so some idiot doesn't pick up a new pitcher everyday in order to win the K and W totals.

Title: Re: 2017 Fantasy Baseball League
Post by: MetalDog on March 12, 2017, 01:57:41 AM
I understand the limit on transactions.  I would prefer to have an unlimited amount.  It allows any strategy required to keep up with or overtake your opponents.  But, this league is for fun and bragging rights.  I'd certainly like to see the amount from last year doubled.  Even made 100.  80 allows for ~ 2 transactions a week.  Keeps down the milling of pitchers but allows enough flexibility to adjust to a hot hitter or make up for injury losses.

What do you think about your availability for a live draft?  I'd really like as many of us there as possible.  I find it engages me more when I have an egotistical stake in my finish.  ;)  Can't blame the computer if I gooched the roster.

Changed some things this morning.  Deleted Bison's team.  If there was a way around it, I would not have.  It feels like sacrilege.  But if I had kept it, I would have to manage it.  I also changed moves from 40 to 100.  Bumped Minimum Innings Pitched from 20 to 25, still possible it will be 30.  Added two Bench spots.  Lifted the weekly transaction limit of 4.  Got two new teams in, a father-son duo that are my friends.  Have another fella who may be joining us, too.  Going to need some more folks to pop in and confirm their participation as well as what day/time is good for them between 3/24 and 3/26 to live draft.  Confirmations so far are:

Me
Brant
AB
KyzBP
OJsDad
Rob (my friend)
Christopher (my friend's son)

I would prefer the draft be 26 MAR 17 in the evening.

Alright, gents.  From the info I've gotten, it appears that Sunday the 26th is going to be the winner on the draft.  I need afternoon rather than evening.  Please everyone that is interested in the outcome, let me know if that will work.  I am in CST.

As for changes, if you have any input on that, please sound off now.  Most things I can only change pre-draft.

As of today, there are 11 teams.  I have deleted Bison and UCG to make room for incoming players, but now we have an odd number.  Anyone have a spare, baseball loving, friend that they can corral?

Another call for objections on Sunday the 26th late afternoon/early evening CST?

Do you have both Stephen & Brian (off-site) back in the league?

I am assuming that Stephen is Big Papi.  I don't suss any info on Brian in the Managers tab at the home page.  I recognize everyone for sure except Lady Red Devils.  I figure that is OJsDad.  So, if Brian isn't in and wants in, tell him to come on.  That'll make 12.

Ok.  Then we need one more.  And if Brian is willing, and I haven't already missed him in the managers tab, please ask him to join us, Brant.

Lemme check and see.  Brian is Stephen's son.  Stephen is the Red Sox homer.  Tho to be fair, he is from New England originally.

Glad to have you, Marty!

So, the league is set.  We have 12 teams and the draft is set for Sunday, March 26 at 5 p.m. CST.  There is still time for me to change that, but, I would need to know by the end of today in order to do that.  Please let me know if that time is no good.  If I don't hear from you, I am going to assume you will be there or are happy autodrafting.

Not sure if I posted this upthread, but, the changes made are these:

2 divisions instead of 1

100 moves per season up from 40

Unlimited amount of moves per week

Playoffs will be Weeks 23, 24, 25 now that there are 12 teams and 6 make it

2 more Bench spots

Minimum Innings Pitched moved up to 25 from 20

Pretty sure that covers it all.  Remember, the draft is today at 5 p.m. CST.  Good luck and happy drafting!

With the increase in inning pitch, you weren't going to add another SP and or RP slot?
Title: Re: 2017 Fantasy Baseball League
Post by: MetalDog on March 26, 2017, 02:06:09 PM
If I had made it 30 I would have.  Even someone who doesn't keep up theoretically has their Starting Pitchers pitch 2 or 3 times a week total.  At an average of 6 IP per start, that's an average of 15 or so Innings.  Your RP theoretically chip in 3 to 5 innings.  So, at a minimum, you should get around 18 innings for free.  Even those who set their lineups once a week on Wednesdays should be able to cover 25 innings pretty easily.  And to be honest, having a higher IP requirement means less chance of losing the pitching categories to someone who drops out completely.  Which is what I am trying to avoid.  Noone likes to lose to someone who isn't even trying :)

He's on everyone's list but most people won't reach for him and make him a first rounder.  If I would've picked 9-12 I would have grabbed him with my first pick.  He's so good.

Yesterday, my batters went an abysmal 4/26, that a .154 batting average.  One of those hits didn't produce any runs or rbi's.

However, the other 3 hits produced 3 runs, 2 home runs, 6 RBI's and a stolen base.  I'll gladly take a hit to my teams batting average for those results.

Something that I just found.  If your on the My Team page, and scroll all the way down the page, on the left hand side, it show's how many innings pitched out of 25.  Might be handy.

As of this day, April 17, 2017, the team, Pop Tart Box, will be reassigned from its current owner to a volunteer from the audience.  Once this person accepts the invite I sent, they will be in control of the team for the rest of the season.  I will make any moves for said team until our new blood gets in.

What's that you say, Put in Rendon? Why he hasn't hit a homer yet this year, hasn't driven in squat and is barely hitting above .250.

Bench his ass and all he does is go 6-6, hits 3 hr, scores 5 time and drives in 10. Jesus this reminds me of the time I benched Rothlesburger and he threw for 500 yards and 7 td's!

Yes on Murdercat and no on Catflingers.  Just waiting for everyone to get a chance to play Catflingers before I take control.  It'll be basic maintenance i. e. Making sure the starting roster is set for the day and that there are enough players on the roster.  Any pickups made will be based on position need and the highest current ADP will be used to determine who gets picked up off waivers.  If trades are offered, acceptance will be based on current ADP value of all players involved.  They should be within 20? 40? ADP of all players involved.
