I'm quite enjoying this game. Reading the blurb in the help section its actually a digital representation of the boardgame The Confederate Rebellion by White Dog Games. See here:

Here's a great AAR on The Confederate Rebellion.

I have downloaded the Android version, but I haven't played it yet.
The AAR will be a big help.

BTW the link to White Dog Games just loads an empty page.
In fact, linking to any WD page give the same thing.

That whole site is written in javascript (mostly) so if you have js disabled, you won't see anything.  Poor design decision however the boardgame (and Android implementation) looks pretty good.  I'll pick it up and give it a try.

My Firefox browser has javascrpt enabled, but I still get a blank.  Internet Explorer, no problem.

I think you'll like ACW.  Here are five hints.

1) Read the AAR linked above for the board game version to get the general feel.

2) The first couple of times you play, give your self 8 or 9 builds so you can try out the possibilities.

3)  There are 33 land areas which the Union could seek to regain control of.  You only need 10 of them :
Richmond, Atlanta, Wilmington, Charleston, Florida, Mobile, New Orleans, Galveston, Vicksburg, and Memphis.
You also need the river areas next to Memphis, Vicksburg, and New Orleans.  That, and 6 Union fleets not in use for troop transport (the blockade), gives the win.  In other words, the Anaconda Plan was a good idea.

4) McClellan's amphibious Peninsular Campaign against Richmond was also a good idea.

5) If you have Lee surrounded and are going to overrun him, make that your last attack of the turn.  Since he has nowhere to retreat, he gets space-warped to another region and might be commanding there when you attack that area later that same turn.  No use in facing him twice a turn.  (I sometimes just leave him surrounded for several turns just to keep him out of play.)

I would try the game on Medium Resolution at first.  Best and High may cause memory issues (late in the game) or graphics corruption (bottom of map).

I got the "white page" but waited about 10 seconds and it suddenly came up and was fine from then on...maybe give it a few extra seconds.
