I'll take some heat for y'all. 

I tried watching Firefly and didn't like it.  It was more like a post US Civil War western than sci-fi.  Turned me off.

That being said, I loved Serenity and have watched it many times.

I think you're all missing the point. The character and quality of the writing, dialogue, and acting are what made it great, not the sci-fi setting mixed with Western themes. That's merely a backdrop.

It's lie watching B5 and saying you didn't care for it because you don't like CGI space stations.

Not necessarily, as a show with a modicum of intelligence and infused with rural common-sense and southern social grace', it has to go head to head against the virtuoso icons of American culture like Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor

I also never watched Firefly much, probably was busy watching other stuff at the time.  I did watch Serenity with a friend (without having watched much of the tv series), and I didn't get it much - although I loved most of the cast (I do follow Nathan Filion regularly on Castle, and nice to see Baccarin continued a good career track afterwards). That being said, I'll probably download it or check it out on tv reruns when I get some time.

For as long as the Pegasus continued in the fleet. ;) Two eps? And a small part of a movie?

Her commission must have lasted longer than that, of course, but since it was connected to a plot element quickly written out (as it had to be), I simply didn't recall it.

To be fair, depending on how much I didn't like CGI space stations, I wouldn't have gotten much out of B5 or DS9. (For example, I can't stand medical dramas, and so never got much out of House, even though I can recognize and respect its quality.)
