It isn't a formal award. It's a proper noun, the name of a specific award.

To continue to use the example you cited above, you capitalize the names of specific awards, as opposed to general.

So Staggerwing presented me his Fuck You ( <- N.B. Capitalized) award.

Or we could simply say he presented me an award for obnoxiousness.

It isn't the formality, or reality, of the award. It's the fact that his imaginary award has a name, Fuck Off, and as such is capitalized.

This is all a distraction from MD having called Firefly/Serenity crappy, and then asking how he could be against a show he has never seen.

To which he will no doubt say that it must be a crappy show because Fox canceled it after broadcasting it in a random order (leaving out two eps and only saving the two introductory eps for the final two) on a completely insane schedule over one season.
