So, hopefully a 'how and why AAR' but as im not too sure either it will be a learning experience on both sides. My previous AAR at WG got lost in a fantasy tale of all kinds of subterfuge whereas here id just like to explain whats happening and why ive done things and the nefarious consequences. So, without further a do, here i am:-

Handsome Devil, 26 and strangely unmarried, with a court of fools (more on that later). Ill be guiding Alfonso through the treacherous doings of medieval Spain - no one likes me, no one likes my Kingdom, ill try and rectify that by smiting some Muslims and heathens, unifying Spain and Portugal, maybe kicking some ass in Italy and France too - who knows - immediate goal, crush the Moors.

Martok

Sweet!  I really enjoyed your AAR over at WG, and I look forward to this one as well.  No worries that it's not narrative-focused like the other one.  :)

immediate goal, crush the Moors.
Is that doable with what you start with?

Thanks guys - the Directors of the Board:-

A very cool and sinister/Imperial Emporer looking Chancellor - if only his skill was higher - i have a claim on my brother in Galicia to the West, and a claim on another brother to the East in Castille, so he is sent further East to Navarre to fabricate claims on my Grandfather - all necessary if i want to install the Jimena dynasty across Northern Spain.

Sigh - Martial Lope - not our finest warrior but he'll do for now - hes installed in Leon tasked with training new troops

Arias the steward, good with the King's money just looks a little 'street' to have the nations wealth running thru his fingers - hes also in Leon, collecting taxes

Fat Pedro, master of intrigue and pie eating - he'll also do for now, he's in Leon uncovering plots against yours truly - he was bound for Galicia but we couldnt find a donkey to carry his big ass that far

Ahhh Bishop Muno, last but not least and my only real friend on the council, he's off to Rome to butter up the Pope

So, thats Jimena Incorporated - the main goals of the opening months are to garner as much piety and prestige on the decisions to be made and to batter a few Muslims with single province lands to hand out to the happy council and try and bring them onside.

I look forward to following this.

Welcome CommandTent..............

Here she is............. Mrs Leon:-

Now i need to explain a few things first, yeeeeeeeeeeeesssssss shes my cousin, that could be awkward - but look at her eyes man, who could resist? Shes the heir to the throne of Aragon, as long as any male children of the King 'meet with an unfortunate accident', when he dies its all mine. For now were getting along, we'll see..................

Muno's mission to Rome is paying dividends - 25 points for piety right here

TWINS!!! - way to go Mrs Leon - never actually seen this before - mission 1 accomplished - find an heir, and a daughter to farm out to the scum and villainy of Western Europe to secure more land and titles - nothing on the charts about being the children of my cousin (yet!)

So......... the original plan was to make a few friends, start a family, settle down, kill some Muslims, and that evil b**** my sister decides she wants a piece of Leon. Right there, right there in front of me she annexes her province, one of MY territories and marches on my land, delivers an ultimatum for me to give her the whole lot, and worst of all, the very worst thing - she brings in my brothers!!!! The very same brothers im plotting to kill come to me first and try and take my land - its on, oh man is it on!

This then sets out our plan - before we set to work on the Muslims were going to unify Northern Spain - by force and fratricide, <<press evil Muhahahahahahahaha button here >>> i just have to sort out this rebellion

If there's nothing to speak of now, it will come out in the game play.
Pray continue anon.

Martok - apologies, missed your first question with regards to the muslims and my starting strength - it seems that since patch 1.06 the muslims are much more unified - there was a time you could go get single provinces and whittle the moors down one by one, it appears now that you pick a fight with one, you pick a fight with all - or at least a good portion - the trick here will be to wait til fighting breaks out between themselves or another nation and then jump in and grab their lands, whilst theyre off fighting else where. This may have to be my tactic for the brothers as well - we all have similar sized armies, probably Galicia been the biggest - the one issue here is if theyre fighting moors you get a -100 piety hit for attacking them whilst theyre muslim bashing, OR go get a big ass mercenary army to come and do the job, so its a race to the cash vault then..........

Firstly we need to kick my Castillian brother out of Leon, 50/50 or 1:1 are the odds if i draw all my levies. I have decided for Leon that we wont fight on those odds, i like fairer odds - 3:1-ish sounds good to me. The warchest is cracked open and the stinky, mean and downright unhonourable Saxon Company is hired - 1500 of the dirtiest, nastiest pikeman, axeman and crossbow wielding ne'er do wells the Mediterranean has ever seen land in Leon and set about my unsuspecting brother - its not pretty and hes hounded back across the border.

Hey, for a 75 gold piece recruitment fee and a 7 gold pieces monthly subscription to 'Mercenaries R Us' im entitled to stay at home and do my other kingly duties whilst they do the fighting!

By the time im blessed with my second son i have raised my personal army and joined up with the murderous Saxon Company to go get personal with my Sis - i want her to see the whites of my eyes as i put her army to the sword, capture her and her poisonous little son she wants on my throne, and slam the dungeon door in her face. After that im going back to Leon to lay waste to the last of my brothers army and this little adventure should be over, then i can plot how to kill them in peace!

Job done, the poisonous dwarf is in prison, and his mother - my sister - they will NEVER be released. Whilst i ponder on this and what to do with Zamora - should i take it back into my personal demesne or give it to one of the unhappy council, but that may make them too powerful, this happens....... not 10 days after i was fighting the back stabbing son of a bitch as he co-conspired in a plot to kill me, the cheeky bas*****:-

I spend the 100 prestige points earned by imprisoning my sister and tell him to blow it out of his ass - this maybe one of those, catch him with his pants down wars we were talking about earlier - Alfonso looks on with baited breath.................

undercovergeek

There she is, behind bars, i strip her of her title in Zamora and add it to my own - the extra income will come in nicely

Once the dust settles its time to start shopping around for a betrothal for the next King of Leon - Number 1 son. I forego the option to let the system give me a list of suitable brides and instead jump right back on the family wagon - if i can tie my line to Galicia's by marriage then my son will become the King of Galicia as well as Leon, and lo and behold the heir to my brother's throne is my neice - its like its meant to happen..................

......... but my big brother doesnt see it the same way..............

...........so i make some more children!

Whats that you say? The dungeon isnt comfortable? You back stabbing, plot plotting, evil b**** - its the oubliette for you. I had to google what one was, god knows how Alfonso found out what it meant. The forgotten dungeon apparently, a cell with access only from a small hole in the roof, you go in - you dont come out. I honestly thought it was some bone breaking, limb snapping, joint creaking, eye popping 'Joe Pesci from Casino' rack machine of terror - still i throw her in and risk the diplomacy hit against her!

TheCommandTent

^She deserved no less.  I too had to look up one was when playing the game.  Maybe one day the knowledge will win me some money on a game show.   ;D

Keep up the good work.  This is an entertaining read!

Money, money, money, money, money - a 'free' 25 dabloons right there - its a rough job obviously, he looks more and more pissed everytime i see him

Oh now, now thats sneaky! Bravo brother, bravo - i am so going to tear you a new one when i get over there, i swear to God........ not that hes listening to me anymore - all vassals loyalty dips by 30% and the Catholic world think im scum - im not sure whether this is anything to do with suggesting we get the kids to marry, if he was that upset he should have said! This can only mean a crusade will be called, i better go to talk to the big fella in Rome...........................

'Oh man thats great, cheers for listening, im really sorry about the kids thing and marrying my cousin, i really am, thats brilliant, ill be going then.................. excuse me? a contribution? HOW MUCH? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!'

Needless to say i left with my purse still full and without the 20 points of improved opinion!

There are 2 things to note here - firstly, whatever the oubliette is, it worked on my sister (top right) - god bless her soul, luckily her son's still in his cell and he thinks quite highly of me.

Secondly, youll notice Barcelona is all but gone, the only encouraging news here is that Aragon and Navarra have stripped themselves of all their armies trying to help out, literally - Aragon has 58 soldiers left and Navarra has 72............. if only i had a claim on Navarra...............

.......its ace being King, i think things and they are made real! So thats a full set of claims on Northern Spain - once i get my house in order we'll see what mischief we can unleash
