The 'Canes finally won, and looked pretty good doing it for most of the game.

They had a rookie score on his first-ever NHL shift about 55sec into the 1st, in Detroit, where the kid grew up.  Kinda cool for him.

Hey I didn't realize Versteeg as in Carolina these days.

Trade was about 4 days before season started.  Chicago was dumping salary for Kane's bail money

The Pens won one finally, but Crosby still without a goal. How long will their current coach last?

Jagr got 2 goals tonight!

Jaromir Jagr might be a robot.

I would have suspected that, especially if he grew back the mullet cut.

Ask and you shall receive.  :D

Haha, that's just too good.

Connor Mcdavid has 2 goals tonight against Calgary.  Has anyone compared this guy's pre-season skates with that of Jeff Eichel?

Eichel seems more comfortable early on, but I think a lot of that has to do with the market they're in. Edmonton is 100% hockey 100% of the time. The pressure never goes away because the fans don't ever move on. Eichel gets to relax a bit.

the pressure on that kid must be unbelievable.  Although I do bet he's having the time of his life

- Max Domi (Arizona Coyotes) is doing pretty well in his first year (yes he is Tie Domi's son).

- The Canadiens benched Semin two games in a row (last night against Calgary they put Byron instead, who got a goal).  I don't blame Semin for the habs losing to Vancouver and then Edmonton right after (they blew that game themselves and threw Price under the bus), but I'm wondering if the management is already losing patience with him.

- I'm worried about the Pens.  Hopefully this is a slow start, and Crosby and the gang will get rolling soon.

- The Ducks are in trouble - this team can't score.  Goalie Andersen is not the problem, lack of offense with Getzlaf and Perry not producing. Can't say much for rest of offense either.

- that old guy who intercepted a puck tossed to a kid from the Pens bench - what a turd!  Nice to see the Pens personally deliver another puck to the kid and a Crosby jersey though.

Pittsburgh has gotten off to a weak start...but at least they aren't Anaheim! What is going on with THAT team is beyond me. Corey Perry has seemingly forgotten how to play hockey.

Chicago is 6-5 right now, and that record is only good enough to put them SIXTH in the Central Division. That's absolutely insane.

What does Tampa do moving forward? Stamkos is an impending free agent, but so are Ben Bishop (#1 goalie), Victor Hedman (#1 Defenseman), the entire 2nd line (Johnson, Palat and Kucherov) and Alex Killorn. There is no way in Hell that they can keep everyone. Do they keep everybody and take one last run? Do they move some players before the deadline to get something back?

Like everyone outside of the Toronto area, I delight in the awful play of the Leafs. Of course, every sports network still shoves their games in front of us as much as possible.  :knuppel2: :tickedoff:

Wow, what a week - Connor McDavid is out for months with a broken collar bone...  :(

Hell.  Yes.

QuoteIn the beginning, at least, I just wanted the entire thing to go away. We were on a really fun run in Phoenix, and I was starting to feel like I was part of something. The Coyotes had been picked to finish dead last — but in the first half of the season, we'd surprised a lot of people. We were this strange collection of underdogs, and I fit right in. And I fit right in by doing what I do best: being a locker room guy, a no-nonsense guy, and a quiet yet effective enforcer.

One of the reasons I've made it as long as I have in the league is because I specifically know I'm not an All-Star.

So when they asked me to make a statement — nudging the fan vote in another direction and denouncing the John Scott "movement" — I did it without hesitation. I told the fans, "Listen. I don't deserve this. Vote for my teammates." And I was telling the truth.

But while I don't deserve to be an All-Star, I also don't think I deserve to be treated like I've been by the league throughout this saga. I'm an NHL player — and, whatever my set of skills may be, that I'm an NHL player is no accident. I genuinely believe that when I'm on the ice, or even just the bench, I make my teammates feel safe to do what they do best.

Does that make me an elite player? God, no. Am I going to be nervous as hell when I step onto the ice on Sunday — and I'm playing three-on-three, with Tarasenko whizzing by over one shoulder, and Toews putting the moves on me over the other? Of course. Will I be the worst skater in the game? I mean, probably.

But at the same time: this isn't Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I'm not some random person off the street, and I didn't win a golden ticket to "play hockey with the stars." I won an internet fan vote, sure. And at some point, without question, it was a joke. It might even finish as a joke. But it didn't start as one. It started with a very small pool, out of a very small pool, out of the very, very smallest pool of hockey players in the world: NHLers. That was the vote. A fan vote, an internet vote — but a vote from among the 700 or so best hockey players in North American professional sports.

And I'm one of them.

If the league thought this was an embarrassment, pretty much all of the players I've encountered have thought otherwise. I've gotten texts from so many guys saying the same thing: "You should go."

and even better, considering this was written before the All-Star Game
QuoteEventually, when they're old enough, I'm sure I'll tell them the whole story. About that one crazy January, when they were younger: when our family moved all of a sudden; when we stopped howling, ahhh-oooooh; when the twins were born; and when their father made the news and played that weird game in Nashville.

It'll be a pretty good story, I hope.

Yeah, it's a pretty good story:
http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/14687094/john-scott-delivers-twice-nhl-pacific-all-stars

QuoteJohn Scott sat on his teammates shoulders while fans chanted "M-V-P! M-V-P!" and the NHL finally got out of the way.

The people spoke up for Scott once again Sunday night in making the career journeyman enforcer the All-Star MVP as a write-in candidate, after voting him into the 3-on-3 All-Star tournament as captain of the Pacific Division.

Scott scored twice during the tournament, which brought cheers from fans and smiles from teammates, who relished every moment along with the gentle giant and his goofy grin.

Scott captained the Pacific to a 1-0 win in the championship.

Loved it. Absolutely loved it.

Hell, I actually wanted the Pats to win it all this year and Brady to get MVP, just to watch Goodell eat shit and have to hand Brady a trophy.  ;D

Good grief! They are trying to dumb down hockey so the Baseball fans can understand it.   ::)
