Greetings and welcome to GrogHeads - where we've got gaming on the brain!
Take a second and introduce yourself! What's your favorite game and what are the regulars in your rotation lately?
Hey. This works really well!
Whoooowhooooo!!!
As if I really need an introduction here. ;)
Your reputation precedes you.
You've heard nothing but good things, no doubt?
I suppose if you're defining "good" as "somewhat better than Stalin's reputation in Poland" then sure!

Good to see you :)
Btw JR, Jarhead may be pinging you soon. Y'all share some professional interests.
Greetings. I am currently addicted to Skyrim. I'm trying to break it's grasp on my nether regions with Shogun 2: Shoguner. Please be gentle with me.
my current addiction is Civ V... it helps that my new computer is too updated to still run Civ III and that Civ IV sucked monkeynuts, so my attention is more focused. When I'm not dorking around here that it.
BTW - did you guys see the "bucket o' dice roller" yet?

The choice of song is inspired. I'm not sure if I like the original better or not, but the cover is most excellent. For some reason Robert Plant actually sounds like some wailing viking from ages past.
Speaking of which, we need to tap Stagger.
Hello, I'm Steelgrave. I like candlelit dinners, long walks on the beach, younger women and older whiskey.

Hey All!
I was wondering where everyone went. WG R&P forum seemed unusually quiet the last few days. Good thing I checked FB (which I do maybe twice a week...)
I was feeling like this:
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi747.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fxx120%2FStaggerwing%2Fimage-1.jpg&hash=2ba5d86df35e24a2bad7e169029c8a8112458200)
To all, I'm me. I like to do stuff. Sometimes I read some stuff. Sometimes I don't. Sometimes I do some computer stuff. Sometimes I don't. Sometimes I feel like blogging...but then I get over it.
Maybe I'll write a Rock-opera instead...
Good morning! MetalDog checking in aka stophro. Haven't got time to look around yet, but I did notice two things: one, there's a Lingerie Channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and two Brant is out of his HEAD for liking V better than IV! Really Brant? Ok. I haven't played V yet, but IV is my all time favorite game! As a matter of fact, the reason I don't have time to look around right now is because I have an ongoing Civ IV game to be at with a buddy of mine at 8:30 on a Sunday morning!
Hey folks!
LB I got your Steam messages, but I saw them after you went AFK. I was watching Thor and then trying to clear level 5 on Dungeons of Dreadmor.
Cool.welcome!
'Sup everyone? Good to see all these familiar faces!
EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to say that my current addictions are Distant Worlds: Legends and Armada 2526 Supernova. Just got back into the latter game in a big way the last couple days here.
MARTOK!
OK - so besides Starfury & Smuck, who do we need to pull out? W8? ComradeP? Who else?

Go for it.
We don't intend to leave anyone out - this is more of a shakedown cruise to work out any kinks. So far things are running great, but we just want to make sure things are running well and we give this place a bit of a workout before we start announcing it everywhere. That doesn't mean we shouldn't include folks - rather that at some point we'll be sure to let *everyone* know what we're up to. Just because someone isn't here now doesn't mean we aren't thinking about them.
BTW what do the five colored (or coloured when Spelk gets here) squares mean in out forum avatars? Activity meter? Preggers test results? Air quality in that person's cubicle? If it's a health meter then right now 40Cent is the Incredible Hulk...

They define the role.
Most of them (admins & mods) were pre-set. I cranked the Old Guard up to five yellows, though frankly, that was just a spur-of-the-moment decision with little idea what impact it would have.
We can do more, or less. Eventually we may even figure out how to upload different images. I'm open to suggestions. For now, this is how it looks:
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1081.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fj349%2Flongblade%2FGrogHeads%2FGrogHeads_rank_pips.jpg&hash=befa58b2781b726e0a3f94ed99690c4012cb1cc7)
Ah. Thanks for the peak behind the Wizard's Curtain. I like the idea of role avatars. For the Old Guard
who are not Admins it will give us a little panache when the hoi polloi finally arrive in droves as they are
wont to do when made aware of a place made of Amazium and Pure Win such as this one... ;)
Greetings all!
Thanks to stophro (MetalDog) I have found my way here. I'm about to turn in for the night but just wanted to send out a quick howdy do.
Talk to you all tomorrow.
G'night!
Good to see you here, my friend! I'm sure Gus will be happy now :-)
Hello everyone. It is good to "see" you here.
I have too many favorite games to list them all so I will just jot down the names of the first three games that come to mind: Master of Magic, Panzer General, and World of Tanks.
Thanks for letting me know about this forum. I am happy to be a part of it.
Welcome, W8taminute & Greybriar! Looks like the band is coming together again... 8)
Is this a mutiny, Mr Christian? ;)
Hi all, good to see so many familiar names already enlisted!
I'm currently flapping about too many games for my own liking, at the moment I'm playing turns in the French and Indian War Card/Boardgame, A Few Acres of Snow over at Yucata.de - along with my befuddled Galactic planning in a small harsh Armada 2526 Supernova Universe PBEM with Martok. I've dipped in and out of the rather spiffing RPG/Tower Defense hybrid Indie game Defenders Quest. I've been shooting the place up, in support at a Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 server, and I've been plinking poisonous arrows in yet another play through of Divinity II.
Mostly I've been dreaming about a Pacific War game, that doesn't overwhelm me, and doesn't make me micro-manage each and every K-Bar Knife I want to put to use!

No bombast, no fanfare. I was summoned and I'm here (with just a mild case of summoning queasiness).
Great to see all the familiar faces!
I must confess that I've stopped playing wargames for sometime now, because I couldn't find the time or the patience to play them properly (Oh AGEOD! Why do you use that obtuse UI?).Ditto for flight sims too: every time a new one comes out, you have to learn almost everything again. So I thought about it and jumped with both feet into racing sims. But a racing car is a racing car is a racing car. Al least, when something new or different comes along, I can carry much of the skills I got from the one I'm currently playing (with some adjustments). So I bought this spiffy wheel and I'm having a great time. I've had more "Wow" moments in GTR Evolution, driving my resonablly fast F3000 around Brands Hatch than with any flight sim I've played.
I might get back into wargaming if Paradox's Naval War Arctic Circle turns out to be good. Let's see.

Hey all. I got a invite from BayonetBrant on ACG where I go by SoccerDJ. Since I made that username in high school I figured it was time to upgrade, however I still wanted people to know who I was so I've reinvented myself and am now SCDJ. (yeah I know not very creative)
Anyway, I am a younger wargamer only in the mix about 5 years now. I enjoy computer games, boardgames, and miniatures. Piri I remember all to well getting owned by you, JH, ~Sunflare~, LB and others at CoD4 (I think it was that game anyway). God I sucked at that game. Still good to have your Costanza-looking ass here though!
You can call me Guardian. I'm a friend and former co-worker of BayonetBrant. Some of you may remember me from my occasional "Guns N' Gear" postings on GrogNews.
I'm an on-again/off-again gamer with too many interests and not enough spare time. I enjoy tactical action games on the Xbox 360. My all-time favorites are the Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, and Battlefield series. Call of Duty is the series that I love to hate. I occasionally play PC-based "real" wargames and fondly remember hours spent playing the Harpoon series.
BayonetBrant also rekindled by interest in table-top games. I currently have Sierra Madre Games' High Frontier and Clash of Arms' Persian Incursion, High Tide, and Sea of Dragons stacked up in my office waiting to be played. I feel special urgency on Persian Incursion, because it sounds like somebody might be start executing it for real soon.
Outside of games, I'm into software development, science and technology, futurism, the outdoors, self-defense, preparedness, and practical/defensive shooting. I'm also something of a "military buff," focusing on the post-WW2 era.
I'm also rather verbose :).
Cool. Welcome, Guardian. I always liked your posts. You and Jarhead should chat ;)
^On paper, we definitely sound like we should be friends!
Pleased to meet you, Jarhead!

Awesome to see MigMaster has made it. I have been playing the part of recruiter and have been poaching peeps over at WG with invites when I see them on the boards. Most who I have pinged have made it over. I'll keep 'recruiting' until we've run out of people we want to see over here.

That may be Smuck's job. I don't think he's connected with me on FB.
I was wondering about Bboyer, too.
In my view there are plenty of good folk we'd like to see here, but at some point we'll just have to make a general announcement and see who comes over and sticks.
Yeah, Pete and I aren't FB friends (yet). Still, I could flip him a message as I know his secret identity. 8)
I just sent CP a message, he doesn't check FB daily so it might be a couple of days before he gets back/joins.
Not that I'm going to stop posting at Wargamer, but it's nice to see the crew here, too. ;D
Thanks to whoever invited me, although with a lot of squinting I still couldn't figure out who it was from the email... (sorry) (Edited to add: oh it was Gus. Thanks Gus!)
And btw, I routinely post smilies from the Wargamer library to another forum (where I'm an admin) by using BBCode (which this forum uses). So as long as you've got the page bookmarked, it's simply a matter of typing {img}{/img} (except with square brackets not fancy) and copy-pasting the specific "image location" from the smiley page.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wargamer.com%2Fforums%2Fsmiley%2Fcatapult.gif&hash=e5abc8847e20924566d30b11aaa54824b2abf83a) Like so.
The Wargamer smiley page is here: http://www.wargamer.com/forums/pop_emotions.asp
I control-clicked (for my Mac; I expect right-click for Windows) on the catapult gif, and selected "Copy image location", then posted it between the image commands.

No x 8. I wrote that dude off when he started getting...eccentric.

Bump.
Any objections to me contacting these two in an attempt to lure them over here?

I don't know. If he promises to take his medication regularly, *maybe* we could let him in.
Eventually this place will be publicly announced. We'll deal with folks who may be problems when they give us cause. For now I think we'd rather have folks we know will get along.
I just pinged ComradeP.

Me neither. To be expected with that one. HAR

Hello everyone..JP Falcon here, a Matrix and Wargamer forum rat for a number of years (though I lost my original Wargamer account and had to start anew).....right now I have been getting heavily involved in solitaire boardgaming and have been sharing some thoughts about it over at Wargamer. Anyway, looking forward to participating here as well...regards

Thanks, and someday when you have time, fill me in on how all this went down.
Sorry for the typo. Amazon Fire auto correct.
The story is aorta long. In time I'll share, but not now.
Lol
My aorta can circle the globe four times. Please do not ask about the length of my manhood as Gus thinks his 35mm gonads are da bomb and I do not want to make him feel bad.
Hello Longblade. Long time no see.
Heya Jomni. Welcome.

Hello all, Gusington invited me over. :)
Hey Republic...nice sig! my dad owned a Republic RC3 for about 5 years back in the late 70's.
It was great fun to fly with him. I have fond memories of going fishing in some large lake.
After landing we just opened the huge front door and threw out the lines!
He eventually sold it because the Franklin engine got to be too expensive to maintain.

a three color graphic running down the side. I'll try to scan a photo when my folks are
back up north.
Good lord LB, so this is where you've been hiding!!! ;)
Gus sent me an invite over at the WG, so I assume my level of groghood is at least apprentice level, a good thing in my eyes.
War in the Pacific AE has it's meaty little hooks into me again after discovering the AE Tracker program at Matrix. Makes it simple to digest the flood of information the game presents during a turn. I play half a week or so and check the tracker to make sure I haven't missed something important, like the KB being sighted 8 hexes north of Suva when that base is holding the string of a lifeline I have with Australia. Knowing this before the Yorktown and Enterprise took massive damage from CV air I had no Idea was there. Fear not, the CVs airgroups and B26s all based from Suva gave the KB a bloody nose, but nothing that won't be back to fight again later on.
So it seems, my favorite game IS the game I am playing lately. Fly a few missions in IL2 with the 4.11 mega-super-amazing-awesome patch to break up the tension. ;)
Look forward to many wonderful discussions over here, thanks for the invitation!!!
Welcome, Stryker!

Hello everyone....
Morning Tank! Glad to see you here!
Where do I begin? I'm Games Editor at Foreign Policy Magazine, an editor who writes a monthly wargaming column at Training & Simulation Journal at Defense News, and a contributing writer for Wired.com's Danger Room (where I blog about - can you believe it? - games!).
With the permission of the mods, I'll post links to what I'm doing from time to time. I may also raise questions. With so many members here being experienced wargamers, and others who work professionally with real military simulations, I'm looking forward to learning from you all.

I've been webmaster for Dave Schroeder's wargame company site ( spwgame.com) since about April of 2010.

@Staggerwing: Full Canvas Jacket of Red Baron Fame, Flashpoint Germany (after release working on the updates), working a computer wargame, done a number of board war games with Mark Walker's Lock'n Load crew (WaW series and NaW series), and working up a few boardgames/wargames of my own right now as well. Also help out other folks when they need a hand too.
Nice resume!
What's your current avatar from? I'm reading some Hammer's Slammers ATM and the Slammers use Ground-effect tanks and combat cars.
That would be play test art for the mini-game I'm currently designing. Basically grav armor, VTOLs, power armor infantry, and hopefully some nice new mechanics for recon (that means something in game), command (control and specrtum domination), and combat (rail guns, lasers, missiles, advanced armors, etc).

Sweet!
We could use a good game like that.
LB,
When I get it up and running for playtest I'll send you a copy to beat up. Hope to have it in a playtest state mid/late-March if my real world issues simmer down a bit. I located a place that can make custom markers so I can get 5/8 blank counters made up (in nice translucent colors to boot). Slap my art on the markers and I'm off to the races.

S!
Heya, Jim. You in town?
I totally flaked out today - daughter had Girl Scout cookies to deliver.
Well, silly me - I thought the con was this weekend and rolled by the hotel today.
A friend of mine was telling me he couldn't make it, and I was getting chatter about other folks going. Since it's about five minutes from my house, I naturally didn't check the date.
Anyway, sorry you won't be here when it actually does take place.
Hey guys.
Mijnheer!
It's about bleeping time! We've only sent you about eleventy billion messages...

Hiya Pete! Hmmm, you're missing "Old Guard" status.
Hey LB, I just noticed that we don't have an 'online' indicator next to our avvies here. Or am I just missing it?

How do things look now?

QuoteComrade! How go the studies?
Fine thus far.
Staggerwing: it took me some time to figure out what was going on, as initially I thought the "move" here was an abortive attempt to get away from WG's lesser and greater evils, but after your message it seemed like it was a genuine attempt at a sort of fresh start on a new forum.
Good to see you here, Comrade :D

I also agree about no pineapple on my pizza. However, that pales in comparison to what the Japanese do with pizza. I'll take pineapple over squid any day.
Has anybody invited Ghostryder over here yet? I've been enjoying Oblivion and Skyrim way too much without him around to tell me how much better Baldurs Gate is than them.

Sure thing. I think they did a brilliant job of making the characters look like their cartoon-based counterparts without making them caricatures.
