Title: Terraforming Mars expansions - Venus Next
Post by: Silent Disapproval Robot on February 08, 2018, 01:14:03 PM
I pre-ordered this expansion a while ago and it arrived while I was away so I went to the store and picked it up yesterday.  I haven't played it yet but I'm a little saddened by the quality.  Terraforming Mars never had the best production values to begin with so it's disappointing to see that production values have dropped even lower despite the huge sales for the base game.   The expansion comes with a Venus map board but it's tiny (5"x7", I think) and visually unappealing.  There's hardly anything you can do on the map other than place 4 city tiles and adjust a score track.

The expansion also comes with 5 new corporation cards and 50 new project cards.  They're meant to be shuffled into the main game's corporation and project decks but they're made of a different type of cardstock and have a matte rather than a gloss finish so they stand out quite clearly in the deck and in player's hands.  The artwork on the cards is mainly taken from public domain stock photos and it shows.  They just look kind of chintzy.  Hopefully the gameplay makes up for the poor quality but for $35 CDN, I expected more.
