The Beeb and Carnival are starting filming on The Last Kingdom, an eight part mini series set during the ninth century reign of King Alfred the Great. It will be based on Bernard Cornwell's The Saxon Stories. Thought I might hip you Cornwell fans to this in case you missed it.

No, had not heard of this til now. Thanks for the heads-up MetalDog. So excited!!
Quite welcome. You might want to clean up all that 'excitement,' though.
Wow, somehow I missed this as well! The Downton Abbey producer connection just might be enough to get my wife to watch it. Thanks! O0
Just got the word from Netflix, Season 3 begins Nov. 19th. :D
WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I gotta re-watch Season 2 to see what I've forgotten. #:-)
About half-way through Season 3 and damn is it starting to get good like a Viking-Fighting Show should. Lots of bodies dropping everywhere. And this time not just in bed with hot Viking wenches. :bd:
I binged the first 8 episodes the day after Thanksgiving, thinking that the season only had 8 episodes. There are 10. I will remedy my ignorance of them this weekend. There are two storylines I am currently not a fan of, one minor, one major. The season on the whole has been pretty awesome though. Destiny is all!
I think I saw Bob's ancestor in the last episode. The guy with the Battle 'Stache the Vikings used to batter down fort gates. :2funny:
That'd be great uncle Eric.......or maybe great auntie Freeda - they all looked much the same.
When I was a kid I used to wonder how my grandparents could kiss without their moustaches getting entangled.
Just finished the tenth episode. There is a scene in the last episode that makes it all worth it. Season 4 can't get here fast enough!!!!
There's four seasons already?? :o
Don't tell me.... Alfred finds a Gauntlet with 6 different gems in it. :wow:

The current season is 3, although it seems that there may be a 4th at some point.
Golly.
Just finished Season 3 and gotta say, "Gotta love it". Nice fight at the end which is where a nice fight should be. Hope there's a Season 4 before I go to Valhalla. O0
An open-ended question I know, but how does this series compare to 'The Vikings'?
I watched the first couple of seasons of, 'Vikings.' 'The Last Kingdom,' is told from the English side. The hero is born the son of a Saxon lord, is taken by Vikings and raised by a powerful Dane. He is adopted into the family and raised as a son. Circumstances force our hero into the service of Alfred the Great. I liked 'Last Kingdom,' better than, 'Vikings.' My GF is the opposite. LK has the action focused squarely on the Hero while I find the focus is more diffused in Vikings. LK lacks one important thing, Lagertha!
I agree with MD. Last Kingdom is better in every way except for the hot, Viking babes. Of course it being on Netflix allows a more 'TV-MA' type approach regarding violence and nudity but, the writing is also great. And the battles have a more authentic feel to them. Utred, the hero, is the Matt Dillon of his day. He always finds a way to beat the guy he's up against.
