I was a MASSIVE fan of Space 1999. The 2 seasons were between 1975 and 1977 and had 24 episodes each.
I really wanted one of these when I was a kid. Not the models - but the metal "corgi" ones I think they were...but we were too poor. One guy at school had one and we all looked...drooling.
Anyway. For the last couple of years, after taking up scale modelling again, I occasionally looked around for one and found them - but never quite managed to push the buy button.
But this time I caved and spent my Christmas money on this baby and the sucker is mine and - for the first time in my life - I'll be a very proud owner of a Space 1999 Eagle.
**I know all that sounds quite sad - but I am soooo excited to own one of these. AND - I get to make it!**
It will be a while before I get to this one, but - the unboxing - what comes in the box. I warn ya - it's "lite"

And an extra wee treat - a card with one of the characters from the show. This one has the one me and my brother used to fight over playing when we were flying our pretend Eagles in the bedroom (bunk beds!)...Carter

All in all - a very happy bunny.
Like I said, it'll be a while - but I'll be on it as soon as I can
Excellent....have fun. I loved it too....i even have two Eagles in metal.
Nice find JD. I built one of those when I was a kid.
I loved that show! Haven't seen it in years, though. Cool ship!
Dinky made a die cast Eagle in at least three colors (Green, Blue, and White)
The green transporter seems to be the most common.
I see that periodically on Amazon when I flip through their models. Been tempted to give it a try a few times but haven't yet.
Good luck.
you dont want me to get started on all the aftermarket stuff thats out for 1999 kits.
DUDE.
One of my biggest 'holy shit' moments as a wee lad was opening a closet at home shortly before Christmas and seeing the Space: 1999 Eagle playset box sitting there staring at me. I remember being mesmerized (as mesmerized as a man would be by boobs, but I was still pretty young then) and staring for a good long while, but finally had the sense to close the closet door and pretend I saw nothing, noth-ink...
In fact, it was THIS very toy...and boy did this bring back a lot of memories:

Close, but that's from UFO, Space:1999's sort-of predecessor.

I remember getting the Space 1999 Walkie Talkies for Christmas. I wanted the Eagle playset but never got it. The walkie talkies were cool.

I had a UFO lunchbox as a kid. Wish I still did...
I remember building this one back when I was young:
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fmodelscale.free.fr%2Fanalyses%2FMS2003_10P%2FAMT_Alpha%2FAMT_Alpha4.jpg&hash=34f0d8cf488afc06861c6a3c9f6a319789882c63)
The big hanger-looking thing is a blowup of Mission Control with it's levels and stations. At the time painting all the little figures was a pain, with their different sleeve colors. Now It would probably be soothing...
You can stream the shows from Amazon

I recall some older kids, a pair of brothers, having that big ass toy ship. Minus all the accessories, doors, etc.
Didn't know what the hell it was at the time.
They also had a big Enterprise from the first couple Star Trek movies, but it was missing the engine nacelles. I still thought it was pretty cool.

Awesome.
And now everyone can try to forget that for all practical purposes, Space 1999 is the sequel to X-com (which was heavily based on the UFO series).
You're welcome.

I don't think the term 'X-Com' was ever used in relation to the TV show, though the game has a lot of similarities. Also, while Space:1999 was originally supposed to be a followup to UFO, the actual second season of UFO was cancelled. Gerry Anderson didn't want to waste all the work done so came up with an unrelated series that could use the props and sets that had been started for UFO season 2. There was no Alien invasion before the events that sent the Moon and Moonrise Alpha into deep space.
The Nerd is strong in this thread.
True, the term X-com isn't used (the group is Shado instead, iirc). But originally X-Com wasn't called X-Com. It was called UFO: Enemy Unknown.
Yes. Yes! Let the Nerd flow through you!

Ostracized and unpopular it will make you.
Never mind all that - lets just see some more Gabrielle Drake :-)
^The voice of reason.
I think they are also re-issuing some of the other Space 1999 kits, too ! I had one of those big eagles when I was a kid - now I regret giving it away - woulda made for a great model. I luv all things UFO, Space 1999 and Captain Scarlet!

I too loved it when I was a kid. That and Monkey Magic.
Space: 1999 rocked! One of my absolute favorite shows as a kid way back when. I remember looking forward to Sunday evenings for the next episode. Looking forward to this build for sure. Good luck JD!
