Title: Help me figure out what game these counters are for please!
Post by: Silent Disapproval Robot on October 12, 2018, 04:40:47 PM
A friend of mine passed away last spring and I'm selling off his game collection for his wife.  I just picked up a bunch of his stuff today.  I guess he spent a lot of time hauling out his games and pouring over the rules and components right before he died and so a lot of stuff was out in baggies or in counter trays.  I've got most of it sorted but there are a couple of sets that I can't ID.

Does anyone know what games these belong to?

Show some individual tabletop extreme closeups of the counters from the tray, especially ones with distinctive artwork. Google images search might be able to find a match.

Will do.

What would you guys say is a fair price for these?

War the Pacific, 2nd ed + extension.  Opened but unpunched.

1985: Under and Iron Sky (still in shrink)

Advanced PTO (opened but unpunched)

Greatest Day: Gold, Juno, and Sword Beaches  (punched but like new)

These look like counters from The Speed of Heat from Clash of Arms Games.

Back in the day--as in the early 90's--a wargaming buddy and I played a few scenarios. From what I remember, it was an entertaining air combat game. We didn't dive too deep into the system, but we still enjoyed ourselves. I wish I had hung on to my copy.

^Groggy's correct. I just checked my copy of the game (kindly given to me by Toonces) and the counters appear to be the same.

Maybe have a look at the BoardGameGeek Marketplace, and what these games are selling there for.

The Greatest Day for instance there were two copies in US, at $225 and $250. War in the Pacific, several copies, from $200 to $300.

I know a couple of people who have shown an interest in 'Under and Iron Sky' - I'll ask around for you.

Thanks guys.

Sold 8 games so far.  As usual, I have no idea what should sell quickly and what won't.  War of the Ring, The Expanse, and a bunch of Lock n' Load stuff went right away (Pacific, Red Star, Day of Heroes, and X-Maps).  Didn't expect those to be first off the block.

Are there any LnL's World at War Compendiums or Line of Fire magazines there? I would be interested to help out by buying those.

Nope. He had 6 LnL tactical games and a zombie game from LnL. He asked me to sell what I could to the local community first so i gave his friends first dibs.  I'm going to bring his collection to a local Con he liked to attend in a few weeks And I'll open it up after that.

Good to hear your making nice progress selling the games, and how you go about it sounds just lovely. Good luck with the rest of them!  :bd:

I know this has nothing to do with identifying the counters or offering to buy any of this stuff but just wanted to point out how touching the underlined part of the quote above is.  I imagine that when I'm old and grey and see the end of the line in sight I'll spend some of my time saying good bye to my game collection as well.

:) Yes you did, and thank you again. Those long days and nights trapped in the frozen wastelands of a Rhode Island winter must have made you do it.
