The Dominion War stuff was brilliant. That's when DS9 really kicked into high gear.

I definitely put DS9 at the top of my list. Excellent writing and the best, bar none, episode of any Star Trek series, ever (The Visitor). It starts of well and just gets stronger the further along it goes.

Originally I didn't want to like it at all - I mean, come on...Star Trek on a space station? YAAWN. I could not have been more wrong.

It's really too bad they never did a DS9 movie.
I can only second what you guys have said.  DS9 very nearly eclipses TNG as my favorite Trek series...and if I'm being honest, I suspect TNG wins more on the nostalgia factor than on actual merit.

"In the Pale Moonlight" and "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" were two more episodes that were simply fantastic.  Along with "The Visitor", they're definitely in my top five.  Another personal favorite is "Far Beyond the Stars".

I missed the last two seasons of DS9 due to my work schedule at the time. I've been meaning to watch them but I'm just not sure where to start. Since it's been so many years I need to rewatch a few earlier seasons to get my footing but where to start? I don't have the time to begin at the beginning however.
Depending on how much of the leadup to the Dominion War you remember, you could start somewhere in the fifth season.

Personally, Stagger, I think you need to start it from the beginning just to immerse yourself in the storyline and the characters again, but it is totally understandable if you cannot, in which case Martok's suggestion is a good one.

FYI, if you have an Amazon Prime account, all 7 season of DS9 are available.

^Thanks, I actually have access to all seasons (Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc). At over 170 episodes, what I lack is enough time.  :(

the ST2:TWoK and Im wondering why, after being told that Spock cant beam them back, that they beam to the planet with the stations transporter.  why not just beam your own ass back to the ship.  ???
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Enterprise's biggest problem is that they tried to fit it into the TOS universe.

I'd say its biggest problem was that the characterizations were almost(?) uniformly awful. (And the stories were often arrant nonsense.)

QuoteI never did watch the last few seasons of DS9.  But I got the feeling that it was more a story on it's own.  Built in the ST universe, but not with all of the baggage.

Oh it had plenty of baggage, but it also had:

* smart writers who, despite the occasionally dreadful episode, were allowed to work cogently on characterization and plotting.

* the most solid stable of primary, supporting, and guest actors since TOS (so when a dud or cretinous story sailed past the plate they could at least eke out a base from a bunt or a single LIKE FOR EXAMPLE THE BASEBALL GAME VS THE VULCANS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DOMINION WAR.

* plus a solid plot basis thanks to that pitch from JMS who went on to do Babylon 5 (though Voyager and Enterprise both also had very solid bases from which to work, so a base can be frittered away).

Kirk wasn't planning to beam back to the Enterprise. He knew the Genesis team had beamed down inside Regula because of the Genesis briefing video, "She said it was going to be underground". That was information Khan didn't have and Kirk wasn't about to disclose it over an open comm channel.

I don't know why, but I usually end up trying to avoid any of the shows involving Laxwanna Troi
