Title: Grogheads 2014 Fantasy Baseball Season
Post by: Bison on February 23, 2014, 07:41:12 PM
It's that time of year again gentlemen.  The pitchers and catchers report soon and Spring Training is right around the corner.  Here is the link for the league:

http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/grogheads

Marty Ward is the reigning champion of the Grogheads Baseball Universe.

Metaldog is co-commissioner.

If you would like to play just sign up and stand by for the draft.  Also take a look at the scoring rules and post any suggestions here.  Thanks.

I am in.  I would really like to see the amount of participation we got last year.  I seem to remember everyone was trying their best until the bitter end.  Even Undercovergeek made a run.  A live draft would be especially sweet, but not neccessary.

How are we scoring this year?  Head-to-head like 2 years ago?  Or season-aggregate like last year?

My draft for last year would've been perfect for 2 years ago  :-\

You should just be able to click the link and sign up that way Undercover.

We are looking at the league scoring over the next few days, but this will be the same as last season with aggregate scoring.  We can look at the overall league and shape the season.  Just let us know what you all would like to see.

Just a quick aside, if there is enough interest in a head to head league, I would be glad to set one up for Grogheads.  If there are only a few of us, I run and have joined several head to head leagues.  We are always looking for players.

Post by: Bison on February 23, 2014, 09:08:49 PM
Well it's just as easy to switch to a head to head league.  I'm good with either scoring method so we just need to know what the consensus is with the managers.

Don't mistake me, I am not trying to make waves.  Just thought if there was interest enough for both kinds, I would be glad to run the H2H.  If not, I know where you can satisfy your H2H jones.

Nah I didn't think you were.  We usually only average around 8 managers so I'm not sure whether we could support two leagues.  We can certainly try however.

my preference is H2H, but I don't care much either way.  I'm not joining another league somewhere else.  I enjoy baseball, but this is the only fantasy sport of any kind that I play, and it's mainly to help make sure y'all have enough numbers for the league to go forward :)

So far there are only two signed up.  Has anyone else attempted to sign up?

25 days until I need to lock in the draft.

Title: Re: Grogheads 2014 Fantasy Baseball Season

Still a no go. Here's what I'm getting :

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1290.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb528%2FElCliff76%2Fyahooscreen_zps0f2e600a.jpg&hash=b32ab321b642a3973b87d789120b062603ba677a)

I can see the league, I just have no way to join it. One of the options in the Finish Setting Up Your League section in the top right is create team, but that button is grayed out and does nothing for me.

Thanks Brant.  Whatever you figured out got you into the league.

Nah yahoo did away with the password thing for some reason.  It's supposed to just be the league url that gets you into the league.

There is not room in this league if all teams from last year return. If you were invited to take over an existing team, please click the link in the email you received to join the league. To create a brand new team, get the commissioner to increase the maximum number of teams, or remove teams that will not be returning.

I used the link in the email and in the PM and had the same result.

Well Metal or I need to spend some time looking at the stats and scoring for a few tweeks.

The big changes so far this year:
1 utility player instead of two
2 starting pitchers
2 relief pitchers
0 "general" pitchers from 4 last year.

I might bump up the relief pitcher number though.  Those guys are a little less predictable than starters and I think one more would be the way to go.

Please feel free to add your own input, suggestions and what not.  Two things I would like to throw out there, first, a weekly innings cap and second, a live draft.  The innings cap would be a small protection against getting hosed by someone who doesn't/can't get their lineups set.  And the live draft is just a fun time.  Oh, and a third suggestion, using only one league to draw from.  If eight is as many managers we can get, then, a smaller pool of players to draft from would make it a bit more of a challenge.

UCG, the draft is automatic by default.  A live draft is a lot of fun and very easy to set up and run.  However, for those who are unfamiliar with the majority of players, a live draft could lead to a long season.  I will be participating in at least two live drafts, so, if we auto draft here, I will not be sad.

Shouldn't take more than ninety minutes or so for a live draft of eight people.  But, if you are afraid to pick your own team in realtime, then I understand.

Unfortunately, the answer to your question is, both.  Although, I find that applies more to a live draft than an auto pick draft (where the computer picks your entire roster).  The best way for me to explain this is as follows:

1)  You have to fill every position on your roster and you want the best player at every position that you can.  It is my understanding that in an autodraft, the computer will fill your roster from the remaining available players according to what still needs filled.  How they determine where to start filling and what positions take priority over another, I do not know, but, you will have your starting roster filled first before your bench.

2)  I am fairly certain that the best available player, at a position you do not already have filled, will be the next one chosen for you.  So, if you get the first pick of the draft, and let's say that Miguel Cabrera is at the top of your list, you would get him.  As he is a 3B (Third Baseman), your next pick would be anything BUT a 3B.

3)  Before you even start tampering with the order of players, you will notice that they are already in order according to the Yahoo experts.  You do not actually have to do anything to the order to get a good team.  Some people like to exclude certain players, as the player is injured or they play for a hated rival.  Some people like to load up on a certain position, say 3B, by taking all of the 3B and putting them at the top of their list.  initially, the computer would pick a 3B and then fill the roster out until a spot opened for another 3B (such as the Util(ity) spot or a spot on the bench).  I have seen people do this often over the years, but it is usually with Pitchers.

4)  And if I haven't confused you enough, and you still think I might be able to answer any future questions (if I even answered this one properly at all), please feel free to ask.  I'd be delighted to help.

Some people just like to exclude the entire Yankees lineup because they are all crappy.

I'd say the same thing about Minnesota, but they don't HAVE a team :P

Just Joe Mauer, but of course we don't need to spend a quarter of a billon dollars to prove to the world our ineptitude.  So I guess it all evens out in the end.  :P

I would love to play this out to its inevitable end, comparing championships, but, it's late and I don't feel much like winning.

There was like 3 teams in the league when they won 24 of them.  And one of those teams was the Cubs.  Being better than the Cubs is just a given.

We don't need to. The Yankees complete lack of most of an infield and a bullpen will spoil everything all by itself.  :P

As a life long Yankee fan, I have enjoyed the ups and downs of my team and its owners for going on forty years.  They have given me enough great players, championships and unbelievable moments to outweigh the down side.  This years team, I think, will need to have some career performances from its players in order to have a championship year.  But, as with all the other teams right now, spring brings hope, so, for now, I have hope.

What I would truly like to see, and I am not sure how many other Yankee fans feel this way, is a complete rebuild of the franchise from the ground up.  Start with the farm system.  Stock pile draft picks and build a base that will keep us stocked for years to come.  Let all our high priced, underperforming major leaguers ride off into the sunset and refrain from throwing money at someone elses broke down free agents.  Make sensible signings.  For instance, try to get Giancarlo Stanton in his first free agent contract.  I'd throw a lot of money at that kid.  Sure, winning is a priority, they are the Yankees after all, but do it sensibly.  I am willing to take a few down years if, at the end of it, our future looked like the St. Louis Cardinals or Houston Astros.

On a serious note.  Did we decide to do any additional scoring changes for this season?  I did adjust the team rosters, but hadn't touched the point system.

Houston winning the series.  /snicker/

For someone as intelligent as you make out to be at times, you can be incredibly dense.  I KNOW the Twins have won the Series and Houston has not.  I was talking from this season forward.

In answer to your serious question, the stats we are using are standard for a H2H league.  So, unless someone has an objection, they should be fine.

Oh boy.  Your sentence structure did not indicate any acknowledgment that the Twins had already won the Series nor that Houston would win one before Minnesota does again.  semantics, man, semantics.   8)

Yeah I think the point system is good to go too.  Maybe a look at the pitched innings required since we did decrease the number of pitcher slots.
Title: Re: Grogheads 2014 Fantasy Baseball Season

Ok.  I will give you the sentence structure wasn't entirely clear.  But honestly, did you think I didn't know that Minnesota had already won?  I was alive, you know.  Even playing fantasy baseball the year it happened.

As for our fantasy baseball, I still see four P(itcher) spots in addition to the 2 SP and 2 RP.  The generic spots gotta go.  And I do not see any minimum or maximum innings pitched in the settings tab, so, we should be good to go.

Hmm...that shouldn't be the case.  I thought I'd removed the 4 extra slots when I cut the extra utility slot.

Where's Brant?  He's supposed to be here defending the Astros.  The best thing the Astros ever did was make some guest appearances in the Bad News Bears.

The Astros have been indefensible for about 6 years now.

I've sworn them off since they bent over and took Bud Selig's limp cock up their ass in switching leagues after the sale.

I would make the innings pitched low because at the start of the season there are a lot of off days, lots of rain outs and sometimes pitch counts on starters that can screw you up. 20 innings or so should be enough to make sure people manage their team but doesn't screw you over due to things totally out of your control.

I did indeed.  The LAST pick of the 18th round to be exact.  Remember though, this was just some random group of people.  No way to tell any of the pertinent things you might know from a group of guys you regularly game with.  To their credit, everyone participated, so, each of the picks was man made.  No Autodraft.

Either that or increase the number of moves you can make. If you have 5 SP and 3 RP on your roster you have basically no bench.

I don't mind a few more Bench spots, but I don't see any SP or RP slots being added.

This was no reason to begin on week 2 of the regular season other than the fact that is the option yahoo gave me to start the season.  My only thought is that there were some non-regular season games going on in Australia at the start of the season iirc.

I put a note up in the league but the following changes were made:
20 inning pitched minimum
+1 Bench spot

or trade for some relievers.  Get a solid closer, and he should get you 3-4 innings reliably most weeks.

Just checked the pitching stats.  I'm thinking the min innings might be better around 15 or so.  It's not looking good for all but one team to hit the 20 inning minimum.
Title: Re: Grogheads 2014 Fantasy Baseball Season
Post by: MetalDog on April 09, 2014, 10:20:17 PM
The point of Innings Minimums is to encourage folks to play and penalize if you don't.  It's not fair to those who put in the time every day to lose to someone who hasn't touched their team since signing up for one.

I wasn't complaining so much as bitching about a very odd coincidence.

Early in the season it can be tough to get 20 innings. I understand the goal of the minimum innings. Can you make it 15 in April then change it to 20 once the season gets in full swing and rotations get set?
Title: Re: Grogheads 2014 Fantasy Baseball Season
Post by: Bison on April 11, 2014, 05:25:31 PM
The scoring doesn't work like that unfortunately Marty.  I can change it but once you return it my understanding is that it'll retroactively rescore the previous weeks.

It's not about penalizing or rewarding.  It's about making sure the position changes we made this year are able to reliably support the minimum requirement for 20 innings pitched.  Emptying your everyday bench for extra pitchers isn't exactly an ideal situation either.  Anyway we'll see how it plays out with the 20 inning minimum.

Thanks.
Title: Re: Grogheads 2014 Fantasy Baseball Season

The changes that were made will support the 20 innings minimum.  IF you are active in managing your team.  If not, then your lack of participation will hopefully be offset by the minimum.  That's why it is there.  If not that, then why?

Brant's team suffered the same fate Marty.  I'd have to look but I think he got 18 or 19 innings out of his pitching staff.  Ultimately I think everyone is going to need 5 or 6 reliable starters to rotate through the two slots during the week.  The RP give more leeway because in general you might see 4 innings tops during the week, but they can make up for it in the save, era, and whip categories.  The season is still young and some decent pitching is available and the onslaught of injured players has not really hit yet.

Usually April is the most difficult month to get through with all the rain outs and the schedule being sort of light. In my case I had something happen that I had never seen, 4 of my 5 starters pitched the same day and all my starters only pitched once that week. A single rain out probably would have solved my problem.

Pitching is defiantly going to take some management throughout the season to insure you have the daily starters in your lineup.  I've noticed in general the little ^ won't pop up next your pitcher until a couple of days out from his start, so it's hard with pitchers to forecast out your lineups more than those couple of days unlike position players.

Played the first few Crash Bandicoot games with my (ex)wife when they came out.  My favorite was the MarioKart ripoff, Crash Team Racing.  LOVED to fall behind in a race to get a "Leader Ball."  Essentially an energy sphere and homing device, it would infallibly track down the leader and crash their car, allowing others some free time to catch up.  What was even better was when I was the leader and she got a Leader Ball.  Many was the time I crossed the finish line before the Leader Ball got me.  I would laugh wickedly and get a tongue lashing or smacked on the arm.  Which would make my smile grow even wider :)

I feel like an idiot.  I saw Crash and thought Bandicoot.    Then I realized, wrong media.  -shamefaced-

If you don't get 20 innings you automatically lose all 5 pitching categories, though I don't know what happens if both don't get the 20 innings. It doesn't show up until Monday though since the program doesn't add Sundays innings until then.

IMO you need at least 4 starters to make sure you get 20 innings a week. Most starters only go 6-7 innings these days. There are some exceptions but the complete game is rare these days.  Plus every so often your starter will only get 1 start per week and if they have a bad outing may only last 2-3 innings or you may have 3 or more starters scheduled to pitch the same day and you can only choose 2. I have 5 starters and the first week 4 started the same day and were only going to pitch once that week. Needless to say I picked the wrong ones to pitch and I didn't get close to the 20 innings.

I'm carrying 4 f/t starters and another that splits time between starting and relief.  That helps when 1 of your starters hits the DL (like Matt Cain this week).

Truthfully, I'm doing OK on most pitching numbers - I'm not getting blown out, but losing a lot of close ones - but my batters aren't worth 2 shits and I'm not 100% sure how to fix it.

Sometimes hitters forget to hit. I've been pretty good offensively so far but this last week I couldn't score runs, hit HR or knock in runs for crap. Hopefully this week they will remember what they are hired for!!!

Title: Re: Grogheads 2014 Fantasy Baseball Season

My pitchers had outstanding performances on Sunday, which is really what ended up tipping the score in my favor.  I didn't see it getting up to a 9-1 victory more like 6-4 or 7-3, but getting 5 wins and 5 saves in a week is hard to beat plus they pulled off some great era in their victories too.

Hitters have hot and cold streaks.  One can only hope that your hot hitters can carry the cold ones through the week and keep the score close, so if you do have a big day you can either tie up the score or pull ahead.

Yes pitchers will have a little ^ by the game if they are scheduled to start.  Batters are harder but if they are scheduled to not play a game they will have an x by the game.

is there a way of identifying starters or is it a case of just sorting players by innings batted?

Starting pitchers are the main thing you're looking for - they're the "SP" guys

For hitters, you need to look at the number of "AB" they're carrying.  Now, a walk doesn't count as an "AB" but you can probably handle some basic math there :)
You can also click on each player's name and read some basic info on him to see how he's doing, and the news updates will tell you if he's lost his starting spot or not.
With only 8 teams in our league, it's unlikely the auto-draft pulled someone who's not a starter from the beginning of the season, but injuries, trades, or poor performance could have someone benched at this point in the season.

Geek, another thing to look at when you are looking for pitchers, click the Players tab.  There are three drop downs.  The middle will give you a list of Positions, and one of the options is P (Probable).  If you click on that, and then click the Filter button, the screen will show you all of the SP for the next days matches.

As for hitters, or pitchers really, with only eight teams, and shallow benches, there really isn't any reason to hold on to a player that isn't performing.  The caliber of player that is available to be picked up is outstanding compared to most other leagues.  And if you REALLY want to put your nose to the grindstone and make some hay, you can go to MLB.com.  That is the home page for Major League Baseball.  Anything you could possibly want to know is there.  Including sortable statistics that might give you insight to how players are performing relative to other players.

Geek, the thing about baseball that is way different that football is that the season is so long that averages are really a good way to judge a player. Just about every player has hot and cold streaks that make it seem like they are a different player than they have been in the past but unlike a RB in football, baseball players don't usually just fall off a cliff regarding production nor do a lot of baseball players have career years. Some will but most won't. Some will also have the worst year of their career.

For a player with a track record of 3-4 years in the league you can usually assume they will be close to their averages in all categories by the end of the year. They won't hit them exactly but they will probably be within 10-20% of them. So if a player has averaged 20 HR, 100R and 100 RBI a year they will probably end up hitting 16-25 HR, 80-120R and 80-120 RBI's. If they have 10, 30 and 40 at the 1/4 mark you can't assume they will hit 40, 120 and 160. They will taper off and probably end up slightly higher than their historical averages but they won't keep up that pace. For fantasy purposes you want this player early (because he may only hit 20, 90, 80 the rest of the year) and they may make a good trade candidate as you will get better value back because the current stats project out so good.

Rookies and 2nd year starters are different in that you don't know what will happen but if you have a new player that is having a great start, hold them because it could be they are just one of these special players that can really help you. Dee Gordon comes to mind, he has never played more than 90 games a year but this year he is starting every game and he can win you Steals by himself. He is hitting decent, leads off and is on a team that can score. He should be pretty good for helping big time in at least 3 offensive categories, one of which is real hard to come by.

Pitching is always the hardest in Head to Head leagues because you can only start 2 SP and 2 RP and pitchers seem to get hurt more severely than position players. If I have 3 RP I always seem to pick the wrong 2 to start and miss out on saves. You want good starters on teams that win otherwise your starters will not get to many wins and they also pitch worse when their team is struggling to win games. K's WHIP and ERA are about the only thing totally in their control.

Now is a good time to evaluate players. If a player is way over performing it might be that he is having a career year but it also more likely they may just be off to a great start and the dog days will slow their pace. Conversely if a player is way under performing, and he is not hurt or on a team that is just doing horrible, they may be ready to explode and have a monster year for here on out. You need to decide which is which because if the get hot everyone will want them. When you get players who are on a hot streak they can carry your team.

You are right about the size of the league making more quality players available MetalDog. There are players on the waiver wire that are owned by 80-90% of leagues so there are some pretty good people out there to pick up.

another good story

https://sports.yahoo.com/news/longtime-baseball-fixture-don-zimmer-012453277--mlb.html

dude made his minor league debut in 1949
He played with Jackie Robinson and was in a brawl with Pedro Martinez - so yeah, he'd been around forever

I'd hazard to guess that at some point in his career as a player, manager, or coach, he's shared the field with probably 70% of all the players to ever appear in the major leagues...  and that might be conservative!

a great addenda to the Don Zimmer story

QuoteIn the 1990s, when the New York Yankees won more than anybody else but not enough for owner George Steinbrenner, after one particular loss the owner ordered every member of the coaching and training staffs and manager Joe Torre upstairs to his office at Yankee Stadium. As many as two dozen people sat and stood around the room, their heads drooped, knowing the lashing that was about to come. Steinbrenner didn't disappoint them with his fury.

"We have to do better," Steinbrenner said. "All of us. If there is anybody in this room who thinks they are doing everything they can to help the Yankees win, you can leave right now."

Don Zimmer got up out of his chair and walked out on Steinbrenner. The rest of the room managed to suppress both gasps and laughter.

Zimmer's wife, Soot, who had been waiting in the lobby and was expecting the usual lengthy Steinbrenner summit, knew it meant only one thing to see her husband get off the elevator so soon after the meeting began.

"You've been fired!"

Zimmer wasn't fired. He survived the walkout but maintained a simmering feud with the Boss, eventually citing Steinbrenner as the reason he quit as a Yankees coach after the 2003 season.

QuoteZimmer met Babe Ruth (in 1947), was a teammate of Jackie Robinson (1954-56) and played for Casey Stengel (1962). He was in uniform for some of the most iconic teams in history: the team that lost the most games ('62 Mets) and the team, including postseason play, that won the most games ('98 Yankees). He was in uniform for the only World Series championship for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1955), one of the most famous World Series home runs (Carlton Fisk's shot in 1975), one of the most famous regular season home runs (Bucky Dent in 1978), the Pine Tar Game (1983), the first night game at Wrigley Field (1988), the first game in Rockies history (1993), and all three perfect games thrown at Yankee Stadium (Don Larsen, David Wells and David Cone).

Just been lucky to have a few guys having amazing starts. 3 guys have ~65% of my HR's and almost 1/2 my RBI's. I don't know if they will keep it up all the way through the season.

The Slammers are the team that I fear the most from here on out. It is a pretty balanced team with some solid players is every catagory.

Pitching is so hard to predict. Some weeks you have 5 wins and 0 saves and the next it's the opposite. In head to head it doesn't matter as much how many you get, only that you get 1 more than your opponent in a category (or .001 less in WHIP and ERA) so it's a little different than the season long match-up where every win counts toward the end.

I think you could use more starters from teams with winning records. Both Kuechel and Samardzija are pitching way better than historical so you might have gotten the best from them already. Samardzija may get traded to a contender so he might get you a lot of wins later this year and Kuechel could be as good as his record this year, though last year he was very average considering who he plays for. If it was me, I'd  dump one, or trade, of the 3 RP's and get another starter. Having 3 RP's is a bit of a luxury.

I had Matt Cain - he was canned ass.  I've tried to rotate relievers, but I don't mind unloading one.

Keuchel has been pulling in the wins Szmardjia should have, and Szmardjia's got the other stats that should be helping.

I may unload a reliever and see what I can do for another hitter.  Andrus is my only SS and he's had some off-weeks.

I had 3 RP's at the start of the season and it seemed like I always had the one who got the save on the bench. It's to much of a guessing game for me.

I don't know that RP are worse to have than SP.  The ERA, WHIP, SO, and Saves all add up and average out.  It's all about hitting the 20 innings.  I've got 3 SP who are on the same freaking cycle, so it's a crap shoot which ones I start and which one I bench.  Frankly my pitchers are horrible.  Marty did state it correctly.  You just need to out score your opponent to win the week.  The down side is a bad week can result in some pretty lopsided losses.

I just don't like the guessing game with having 3 RP's. I never seemed to guess right.

RP can really screw up you ERA with a bad outing and it doesn't even have to be real bad. They give up a 2 run homer in the 9th and lose and all the sudden your ERA goes through the roof and his WHIP that day is INF! At least it can happen to anyone so when it happens to me I just curse and forget about it.

The key to the hitting stats is the number of AB's you get. The more chances you have the more points you will score.
If you use the Stat tracker you can switch from Daily view to Weekly view and see how you are stacking up against your opponent in AB. If you generally get more chances you will probably win more of the hitting points than you lose.
Monday's and Thursdays are key as a lot of off days are scheduled then. If you can field a full team and your opponent only has 5-6 guys playing you have a big advantage. Don't leave a guy on the bench if there is an open spot he could go in. They may go 1-6 and drop your average a bit but they may also steal that base that puts you ahead.

While I appreciate Verlander picking up the win and the Ks, it'd be nice if he could do it without a 7.00 ERA  :-\

I just go with the belief that a 7.00 ERA is the new 2.00 ERA for the ace of my pitching staff.

That is way better than my closer on Tuesday. INF ERA and INF WHIP. Good job!

I didn't realize that the All Star break is incorporated in to last weeks scoring.  So, Week 15 actually runs from July 7 to July 20.  There are no major league games from the 14th to the 17th and they will pick back up Friday the 18th for three more days of scoring.

I'm just wondering how different my season could have been without Zim on the DL all season and with Verlander pitching like 2011 Verlander and not 2014 Verlander.  I wouldn't have come close to winning, but I wouldn't've been in the cellar all year.

It's hard to say if it would have made any difference at all. In a weekly league you can run into the hot team for 2-3-4 weeks in a row. Your team may put up solid numbers but your opponent is having the best week of the year against you. There isn't much you can do about that.

Weekly leagues take a lot of work. You have to make sure that your starters are in when they start, as sometimes they only start once in a week. You have to make sure as many positions as possible have players who are starting their game in the lineup. You have a good group of starters, all but Jeff Spellmynameright have double digit wins on the year, yet you only 3-16-1 in the Wins category during the season. I don't know how that happened.

You also need to make changes to your team as injuries and opponents change. There were a few weeks where I just picked up a starter just to try and win SO or Wins and it worked out. I had already lost ERA and WHIP so it didn't matter how hard they were hit as long as they got the two areas I still had a chance to win. In a yearly league you wouldn't do that.

Another thing to look at is your opponents squad. If your opponent has 6 starters and you only have 5 chances are high you will lose the Wins and SO categories simply on volume. That means you have to win all the other categories to 'win' pitching that week.
Title: Re: Grogheads 2014 Fantasy Baseball Season

Pitching is definitely the easier of the two to manipulate.

I would set my starters up every Sunday (part of my problem right now is 3 guys starting on the same day and why start Verlander over either Weaver or Felix) and I would check my hitters every morning and shuffle if someone's team wasn't playing.  But I was never doing enough analysis of the hitters day-to-day to over micro-manage the lineup.  I should've had a big shakeup in early July instead of late August just to see if I could accomplish something different.

Truthfully, I'd rather not be the total embarrassment that loses to the limeys, but I said all along that I was really only in the league to make sure we had enough teams to play, and wasn't expecting too much out of it.  I've learned more about how this works, but I might just turn over the management of the Shotgun Express to Bayonet Jr next season :)

Verlander, Verlander, Verlander...

That and Matt Cain went on the DL, Bucholz was as useless as socket wrench on the mound, and the Papelbon vs Romo relief pitcher challenge never quite resolved that well.  Papelbon had a habit of blowing up at exactly the wrong times, but Romo's ERA was a constant anchor on the team.  I should've steered clear of anyone named "Romo" in a sports context...

Even though he didn't have a season like in the past Verlander still has 12 wins and averages almost 8 K's per 9 innings. He's better than some of the rubber band arms I've had!
