New thread for AoS Ireland.
Here is the initial setup.

I've scanned the rules into our dropbox folder.
I randomly determined starting order for shares and the initial auction and it is:
Rex-Mike-Woodall-l'amour
The first logfile is me going through the setup. The second logfile is just a save so that whomever needs to use it first doesn't have to step through everything.
Share decision momentarily
I'll go with 1 share.
Mike is up.
Thanks for setting it up, Rex!
I'm going with 0 additional shares. Boom!
This looks quite rough. I guess I'll take a share out.

I'm eagerly waiting to see if Mike goes bankrupt. :-"
I'll have 1 share, please.
Hmm, I already feel like this:
I'll bid $2.
Guess my bid!
no bid!
$3 - final answer
I'll pass.
I'll pass.
Woodall is first to choose an action.
Hmmm... engineer, I guess>?
hmmm...first build?
If you're still interested in a game of Polis, Mike, let me know your username on Boardgamearenea and I'll set up a game.
l'amour is up for choosing an action.

Huh. I need to make an account. Let me do that and take a looks at the rules this weekend.
How about we using Yucata instead of Boardgame Arena? You can't undo inadvertent plays in Boardgame Arena, but you can in Yucata (I think. I've just played some Pax Por there, and you can undo anything before you gain new information. I assume the Polis module would be the same).
Loco.
Pass option for turn order.
Believe you're up to build, Rex. Are you done with our Polis game? Your pass confused me. :) I'm indifferent to playing it out, if you're spent.
I'd forgotten I took first build. :-[
I passed because I was out of prestige and didn't look to be able to gain any any time soon...so I thought I'd at least make you pay resources. But I don't think it matters...I"m toast anyway.
I'll build something momentarily.
Over to Woodall.
Scary stuff.
Is it me now? Or Mike?

I am egg_salad on both now, I think.
I glanced at the rules. So I am ready as I will ever be.

I created a game and sent an invitation on Yucata.
Done. This map looks flippin well ard.

Ok, apparently I will need to figure out how to use the interface.
Please stand by.

Oi, I am thinking my strategy was ill considered given this #$#! map.
Woodall for is up for move, I think.
The message body was left empty.
I increased my Loco.
My laptop has had to go to computer hospital for a new hard drive, so I'll have to wait until the weekend before I can catch up with this. Sorry for the delay.
Rex - that goes for HIS & civ war too!
FYI, next week (and the week after) I will be traveling, and I am strongly considering bringing no laptop! So all my games might go on hiatus for a bit.
The Yucata interface isn't as pretty as Boardgamearena, but it's functionality is much better. If you want to give it another go Woodall, I'd be up for playing again.
I'm in North Dakota and Colorado next week anyway. For that matter, I'm leaving for Austin tomorrow. Sounds like we're all a bit jumbled. No worries! :)

I think I'm done with Polis, but I wouldn't mind playing something else. Probably best to start in July.

I thought that might be the case, but I thought I'd throw it out there since the last game ended abruptly.
I really wanted to like it but there are some thing about it that really bother me. The bones are good though, it'd be nice if someone took some time for more development with that type of system. I also had many games going at once both online and face to face, so probably just kind of burned out on it. Mainly I'd just be thinking about Hannibal while playing it and wondering why I wasn't playing that instead.
The economic-game aspect combined with the military is interesting, but it combines them in a constrained, euro-esque way. As a result, the game is a lot of figuring out what to do when for maximum effectiveness. I don't like that sort of planning so it seems like the economic and military aspects that I am interested in are far off in the background.
Agreed. And I think there is too much punishment when taking risk. Closes the game more than necessary.
Bump for l'amour.
Ok, I'm confused. Do you know why our Polis game ended Mike?
Did either of you have 0 prestige at end of turn?
Ah. It looks like Mike didn't. I guess that explains it.
I figured I boogered something up.
If you want to play again, let me know. I can set it up for you to play Sparta this time.
When I get back, let's talk.
I did the locomotion.
Have you made it back to civilization yet Mike?
In Dublin at the moment. I am pretty sure I wanted to increase my loco. Can someone do that for me?
I'm sure we can manage that. I'll do my turn when I get home tonight!
Enjoy Dublin - I heard they make a mean Dr. Pepper.
Dublin is ace.
Quote from: egg_salad on July 06, 2017, 03:12:43 PM
In Dublin at the moment.
That's some real dedication to the game.
So, we're still on turn 1, right? The turn marker is confusing me. I'm just guessing we're in the 2nd half of Turn 1 because my income is 1 and not 2.
Edit: (I see now the Ireland rules have it start one to the right)
Haha - just realized I'm going to go bankrupt. For some reason I was thinking I'd have to pay for my 1 issued share and 1 loco. Forgot that our initial cash comes from 2 standard share issuance prior to game start. Mike will bankrupt as well?
I must have no been paying any attention last game to the whole mechanics of this thing.
Close but not quite.
Right now you're at 1 income, 3 shares, 1 loco, and $0. If you deliver another good for $1, you'll get to $2 income, which will give you $2 cash. You'll have $4 in expenses, $2 of which will come from cash and $2 will come from income reduction. That will put you back to $0 income...but not bankrupt.
Mike will be able to deliver a good for 2. He has $2 cash already, will get $2 more, and then be able to pay his $4 in expenses from cash.
Oh. But you don't have a good to deliver???
No, I can deliver a good. I just didn't realize an income reduction was an option. That may as well be bankruptcy though. :) Anyway... I'll get the log out tonight.
Ah yes. You have a lot of purple to deliver. Not sure why my mind blocked those out.
Rex is up
Moved a good for +2 income. l'amour is up.
Bump for l'amour.
Bloody Nora. The notifications on this site make me howl. I'll sort my turn out in the morning.
I stopped getting them for awhile, but recently they've been really good. Not sure what I did--if anything.
Done.
Moved yellow cube for 2
Player | Starting Cash | Income | Expenses
Rex | $3 | $2 | $5 (3S/2L) | $0 | |
Mike | $2 | $2 | $4 (2S/2L) | $0 | |
l'amour | $5 | $2 | $5 (3S/2L) | $2
Woodall | $0 | $2 | $4 (3S/1L) | $0
Woodall dropped $2 in income to pay for expenses.
Goods Growth:
White Goods Growth: 5,5,1,4
White-1: Gray Cube
White-4: Purple Cube
White-5: Blue and Purple Cube
Black Goods Growth: 5,3,2,4
Black-2: Red
There is no Black-3, -4, or -5.

Woodall is up to issue shares. Also, just a reminder to Mike, you took the turn order action, so will get a free pass in the auction.
What does the locomotive action do in this game again? 2 jump instead of goods transfer?
I guess I'll take 2 shares

Yes. No free bump, but you can forego both deliveries in a turn to improve your loco twice.
l'amour is up.
Do any of you guys use slack? There's been discussion in the BGG 18XX forums today about the benefits of using Slack to facilitate play of 18XX through Board18, etc. I'm wondering if that might be a better alternative for our games, given the sometimes inconsistent notifications for forum posts. From what I understand, it would facilitate notifications, file sharing, posting of images, etc. I've never used it, so don't know any more about than what's been posted in those threads.
Well, I joined the AAC slack channel to post dick pics.
Seems like a reasonable platform.
I use slack for our local ASL group. Pretty slick interface and has a mobile app. No restrictions on file type uploads and images are embedded into the feed without any real additional effort.
I've also used it for Mike's dick pics. Image quality is just fabulous.
I've never heard of it. I'll try it if it's meant to be good. So many sites and log ins to remember, so it would be good if it was significantly better.
Anyway - 1 share!
2 shares, please.
So I've been tinkering around in the AAC slack channel. I downloaded the App to my phone, which seems to be great for alerts. You can change your to different settings based on the channel. You have the option to get an alert for every new message or just when you're mentioned in a post. (It seems to use a twitter-esque @username system). So if we set up a slack channel for our games and then did an "@" at the next person up when we finished our turn, it would guarantee a notification to that person. Then each of us could decide whether we wanted alerts for all messages, or just to let us know when we're up. It would probably also really work well for auctions.
I don't know how well e-mail notifications work on it, though. But it might be worth a shot?

There's a mobile and desktop client. Both can save your login (and not like a click this button and login deal)... they're just on all the time. It is significantly more convenient and easier to use than a web forum, but I understand your hesitation.
I don't think I'll bid.
$2
Pass
Now I get a free pass?
Yes, but because I'm the only bidder it won't matter in this particular case. The scanned Eagle-Gryphon rules don't make this clear, but I think the condensed rules do. If the bid comes back around to a player at his original bid, he's not required to raise his own bid. So if you use your pass, it comes back to me. I'm not required to bid, so then the bid goes back to you to outbid me or pass and drop out.
See this thread (https://boardgamegeek.com/article/7074437#7074437).
It's kind of a shitty reward for taking the action last turn.
Seems like a pretty reasonable reward. 2nd place for no monies!
But in this case, he would've gotten 2nd place for $0 anyway. But maybe you guys would've bid differently had he not had it.
I might have bid - who can know these things?
Well, anyhoo, I'll take 2nd for 0$, Alex.
Player Order/Bid Owed:
1-Rex/$2
2-Mike/$0
3-l'amour/$0
4-Woodall/$0
I'll take Engineer as my action (build 4 track sections).
I'll take first build, I guess.
I'm going to go ahead and create a Slack channel. I will send you guys an e-mail invite. We can try it out and see how it works. If you guys don't like it, we can revert back to here.
Bump for l'amour.
First move, please.
Did you get the Slack invite l'amour (and you too, Woodall)?
Yeah cheers, just sorted it now.

I did, just haven't followed up. Decided to change OS out on comp so I just haven't got around to reinstalling Slack yet.
