Thanks Des, I did not realize that AoE IV was releasing new civs! (Mali and Ottoman Turkey)

Yeah, no worries. The hope though is to get Byzantium or the Japanese as paid DLC. I'd love to see what they come up with for the Japanese.
I just finished my Mongolian mastery. So now my Town Hall in game sports a mongol horseman with an eagle above. Really been enjoying it.
It's funny but I have a mate whos sister plays AOE and another who played with a husband and wife team he works with. It's a game that obviously appeals to a very diverse group. I think Diablo is also a bit like that, something you can play with your other half that she will at least be semi interested in playing or at least comfortable with.

With regard to the Ottoman Turks. The Jannisary, stolen Greek Christian babies converted to Islam iirc, always seemed to me in history to be more close combat troops that perhaps later with gunpowder soldiers. In game they seem to be specialised musketeers, or will be? I must look up the Janissaries, if I recall they also became very powerful at times within the Ottoman empire. Very interesting unit, hope they are not just a late tier unit but rather upgrade to musketeers later and are bow and sword armed earlier.

I always thought of the Janissaries as 16th century, black powder storm troopers...used when Ottoman heavy artillery blasted holes in the enemy defenses to breach the cracks.

Is Byzantium confirmed?

I've tried getting my wife into games. No joy there, she topped out with the original Zelda and Super Mario Brothers.
Insert witty comment here.

No, Byzantium is just a hope on my part unfortunately.
Black Powder Storm troopers huh. Wowsers. I'd hate to be in the forlorn hope after training that hard.

^Hoping for Byzantium at some future point then.

Imagine being on the business end of a janissary attack...after your defenses are blasted away but by some miracle you are still alive only to face the charge of 1000s of hopped-up lunatics.
