Damn that was one tough as hell Victor II!  :notworthy:
"Take a look at that". Sgt. Wilkerson-- CMBN. His last words after spotting a German tank on the other side of a hedgerow.

Extract from  Orion’s Sword: A Battle history of the P-3 Orion, Naval Institute Press 2020

By daybreak on August 8, the initial Soviet push in the Norwegian sea was spent.  Contrary to pre-war expectations, the Soviet navy had not flooded the GIUK gap with submarines.  Apparently surprised by the start of the war, the Soviet fleet went to war with what was at sea.  It wasn’t enough. The Maritime Patrol Aircraft operating out of Iceland and Norway had decimated the Soviet submarines that were at sea, sinking seven of the eight submarines at sea.  Only the JULLIET, located far to the north had escaped the carnage.  But blinded by the loss of the BEAR D surveillance aircraft, the JULIETT was no longer a factor in the oceanic struggle.
The devastating losses inflicted on the Soviet navy by the Icelandic-based MPA clearly proved to Admiral Gorshkov’s staff that Iceland had to be neutralized.  But moves against Iceland needed to wait for developments in the eastern Atlantic.

Notes: The JULLIET escaped destruction because NATO forces were constantly being distracted by submarines that were in tan immediately more threatening position relative to STANAVFORLANT units.  Between EMCON and the destruction of the BEAR D, I felt that these more immediate threats needed to be neutralized first, so I never got around to  the JULIETT.  A P-3B was prosecuting the JULIETT, as well as flooding the area with its radar, so ideally if the JULIETT had surfaced to fire its SS-N-3 missiles, it would have been detected and destroyed.  An image of the situation at 080300Z AUgust 75 is attached, and the battle log and loss/expenditure report is pasted below:
