Close Combat: Panthers in the Fog

With the latest Close Combat game being released yesterday we couldn’t wait to get our hands on Panthers in the Fog. Hastily installing it and firing up the first scenario I found there really are panthers in fog. As this scenario demonstrates fog has settled all over the map and is represented by the grey haze covering everything. What isn’t clear is just how far visibility goes, but it didn’t take long for me to figure out that on my screen three or four inches was about the limit of a unit’s visibility.

In this scenario the Germans are rushing to slow the American advance in Normandy. This scenario takes place in Avranches. I have spotted US armor advancing to the south on the outskirts of town and have moved up two PzIV tanks to check their advance. In the first screenshot I have positioned my tanks just within their range visibility in the fog. We didn’t have long to wait – a Sherman pulled directly in front of us. As the second screen shows, it didn’t take long to take it out.
