Title: I used to love her, but it's all FRIDAY now!
Post by: MetalDog on March 13, 2015, 05:55:18 AM

Here's a surprise, I'll be playing Civ IV this weekend.  Both single and multi.  A dark horse might be EUIV.

I really love the old Stones!  Good choice for a theme for this week MD.

I picked up Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires a few days ago so I'll spend some time with that.  I really really want to get Gary Grisby's WitE but the price tag is too steep for me.  So that means I'll also probably spend time doing my taxes this weekend to see if I get a decent refund or not.   :coolsmiley:

Then I can buy TW: Attila, Homeworld Remastered, and WitE

Gonna try and finish my review of Shining Path.
Get Cyrano my turn for Normandy 44... see if the damn Canucks can get off the beach finally.
Some more of Sid's Starships.

Try not to buy Cities: Skylines.....  :P

Looks like I am going to finish the Worldshift campaign (2 more scenarios). Also going to continue my Endless Space campaign (think I selected slow  :uglystupid2:) which can still last forever (I am first in everywhere but not enough for a win). Will also continue my campaigns in Armada 2526 Supernova and Master of Orion (still the best 4x imho).

I am torn between finishing up my Attila TW Geats campaign and starting a Langobards campaign, or taking a TW break for a while and playing some Homeworld and Starships instead...

Well, let's see....... I am thinking about picking up Attila, but still unsure.

- Cities: Skylines
- EU IV
- Space Hulk
- Darkest Dungeon
- Maybe CK2 or Distant Worlds

Still not sure exactly what I am going to stick with and see through, but hopefully after the weekend I will settle so who know it could be FE:LE or EL etc...

Some of the more popular kids are going to be happy with having a new computer.  As one of them, let me just say, it was kinda fun
getting Steam to load up and do its thing -- BUT OMG Windows 8.1 is the UGLIEST windows yet.  Though it does seem to actually work, which is nice.  I didn't stop feeling exasperated (in a snotty popular kid kind of way) until I got google chrome and got an image loaded on my desk top.

Of course Windows 8.1 still keeps telling me "There's an app for that" which is not just insane but is just so 2011.  Been there, done that.

But this weekend it looks like DCS and boardgames will be played.  Not sure what else.

Have you seen the unlocks you get for having/playing each? I haven't tried that out yet. Also apparently you can take a BE save/win into Starships... somehow...

Not yet but I haven't started a game of Beyond Earth in quite a while. I think Starships is also part marketing tool to make us play Beyond Earth again.  :D

I took a break from Attila and went back to my old ETW game as Spain. I really like the slower pace and 3 continent strategy of the game. I've got to take one more territory from the pirates and then New Spain will join us and we will then make tacos THE world food and put Bull Fighting back on cable where it belongs. ;D

You can have my WitE if you want. I didn't particularly play it very much (eastern front isn't really my thang) and now I have WitW, I probably won't want to go back to it. I can upload it to my Google Drive and send you the link...let me know.

For me I've been eyeing up Total War:Attila and Rugby Union Team Manager...but with Command Ops coming out Monday and having bought Cities:Skyline - I'm on hold for a bit.

My moratorium on computer game purchases for the year didn't just end - I seem to have gone into overdrive!

As for actually gaming, not much because the rugby is on - but definitely Cities:Skyline and I would like to try out the new Assetto Corsa DLC

I also got my new Harder Steenbeck Ultra airbrush and hopefully I can get some pre-shading done on my 1/72 P-51.

Apart from that - Rugby all the way

I went for CMBS last night, had a slight hiccup which Elvis fixed for me in like........30 mins - gold star

so that was 1130pm, finally fixed had a nose round the UI and a battle or two, then opened the editor - started a map and then realised it was 230am and i was up at 545am - sob

this weekend ill be be poking con and jomni for some PBEM action, there will be WG Red Dragon to try out a new Russian deck, so far its a minor victory to me and one to the AI - but i know where i went wrong

Im upgrading Elite as it goes but only dipping my toe in to see how the changes effect me - external camera is good for shots

have a good weekend all

pro tip:  don't be Khan.  offensive and defensive weapons have limited firing arcs in all dimensions.  the greatest limits are above and below.  so don't fight on a single plane.

Due to a really bad work schedule its been close to three weeks since I've been able to play anything for longer then a couple of minutes. Hoping to change that this weekend with some Command, Elite, and Distant Worlds. Might also play some Grim Dawn. Picked it up on sale early this week, more because I wanted to get it while it was cheap rather then for the early access but I might still put a few hours into it.

Damn Kushan. That's not a bad schedule, that's a criminal work schedule. But you gotta do what you gotta do man. I been there plenty. If you were like me, screw-up often enough and they tell you to go home and stay there for a while. Which I happily did. Anything for the team.

So many options.

I may revisit Mechwarrior Online a bit this weekend if I feel the need to digitally shoot at other people.  :knuppel2:  Not sure yet.

Perhaps some CK2 or EU4 for single-player, if not Total War Rome2/Attila.

But I'm primarily in a tabletop gaming mood again.  Plenty solitaire boardgaming available, along with some mini painting which my zen equivalent.

I just finished a quick game of Warfighter last night, and will probably move on to a solo learning session with Dead of Winter.  Painting either Sentinel Tactics or Super Dungeon Explore minis, and learning the chosen system, for a possible game next week.

Nefaro, I haven't thought about that song in at LEAST twenty five years!  It was the only song on that album that was any good.  Which further strengthened my opinion that GnR had exactly one good album.  Sucks when your debut is as good as it's going to get for you :)

No offence intended...I just don't know much about GnR except that they produced some songs in the '90's that I liked

'Appetite for Destruction,' was a balls out, in your face, blast of, "F*** Y**!"  Oddly, it was released in July of 1987, but didn't really take off until spring of 1988.  It was THE soundtrack to our summer in '88.  Everything after that was less fierce, more bloated and not as entertaining as 'Appetite...,' was.

Doug squeaked out a win in PzB this week so I'm seeking my vengeance in the same battle, just up one level in PzC.  From both experiences I conclude that NO ONE had a good time at Kursk.

CMBS PBEM (also Doug).

Vance teases me with a promise of a Normandy PzC turn!!

Leipzig tournament where, again, the scenario is a bit unbalanced.  The French are pantsing the Allies in both of my mirror games.

Completing W@W review.  Forgot what a fun system that is...makes me want to let Doug smash my face in at at OF:RS again.  Also, and I'm a bit shame-faced to admit it, didn't know that Cap'n D. had his mitts all over this system...it all starts to make sense now.

Scenario of the Month over at the Blitz in CM:MG where things are going, erm, badly for the Seaforth Highlanders.  No really, really, badly.

Best,

Jim

The only thing I'm ready to commit to right now is ARMA 3, which I'll be playing as soon as I get caught up on what's going on here.

I'm considering several other games, including Scourge of War, Combat Mission: Battles in Normandy, and maybe going back to Red Orchestra/Rising Storm for a bit.

Oh, and continuing Morrowind.

I love to mp because it gives me a chance to play games with friends.  However, my constant Civ BtS mp friend is the all time worst at being slow.  Granted, the game by its very nature induces caution and planning, but, some of my wait times with him are interminable!  And yes, I have been known to take a fair bit of time in executing my turn, but, I wish you could experience this.  I've actually timed some of his longer turns and they stretch past fifteen minutes.

Started playing some Gary Grisby's War in the East thanks to Judge!  Man this game is huge but so far on turn two of my 'alternate Barbarossa Campaign 1941-1945' all is going well.  I've probably overextended myself as the Germans and my supply is most likely going to hurt me but I've blasted my way through to Lithuania and half of Byelorussia.  Army group south has yet to activate.  The Rumanians and Hungarians have tons of units to contribute but so far they are not movable.

So far this weekend, I've played Medieval Total War/Viking Invasion, Armada 2526 Supernova, Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes, Distant Worlds: Universe, NeverWinter Nights: Diamond Edition, and Star Wars: Empire at War...none of which I've played more than an hour or two.  :-[  I just can't seem to f***ing focus for any real length of time.

^I get into those ruts as well sometimes.  That's when I stop playing and do something else to take my mind off of gaming.  It's only during the time away from playing that I get an urge to play something.  Then it's back to business again.

Played quite a bit so far, all computer stuff.

Slammed, which is an interactive fiction game where you take on the role of a n00b wrestler trying to make it big. I'm not a wrestling fan but the storyline looked interesting. Steam sells several interesting stories, and the publisher has others that aren't available through Steam. Very inexpensive. If you like Choose Your Own Adventure type books, you'll definitely appreciate the stuff that Choice of Games churns out.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, which I just saw for sale today on Steam for less than $5. Couldn't resist. Been wanting to play a CoJ game for a while. Very, very linear with zero open-worldness to it, but the action is a lot of fun.

Sid Meier's Starships, which I bought pre-sale and just finally spent some time with tonight. Got my butt kicked, so I need to go back to it at some point and try again.

I broke out my box copy of B-17: Queen of the Skies with the intent of playing for the first time in easily over 25 years. Started an AAR thread in the forums on it, too.

I want to get to either Cruel Necessity or Ottoman Sunset/Hapsburg Eclipse this weekend (more drawn to the latter two).

Also highly distracted by House of Cards on Netflix...

I'm only five episodes into Season 2. Will probably watch another before I crash tonight.

I'm finding my opinion of it to mirror a lot of opinions I've read: Season 1 is amazing, Season 2 is...pretty good. I've heard 3 is meh/decent.

I know, I'm a terrible person for not binge watching it all just so I can tell you my opinion.

Haven't you started watching it yourself?

It's pretty obvious, the outcome of this whole thing. I liked Spacey's character in Season 1 but near the end of that and at the start of 2 he became a murdering asshole. I still like the murdering asshole, I guess. Otherwise I'd be done with it.

That's when I push myself to do some solitaire tabletop gaming instead.  Then, after going through that phase for awhile, I go back to PC gaming and it's almost like I'm a digital virgin again.   :)

The Wife loves the show, I love Kevin Spacey in anything. But sometimes I just could not make it through some of Season 2.

I've been playing skirmish matches, but I may start a campaign game this week.

Any tips before I start?

Not really...the progression is very well done in the campaign. I would still save from time to time because scenarios can be fairly long.

What i love most is the sense of humor...just great.

Wife said I spent too much time playing games in my office, so i picked up a Surface Pro 3 so now i can play games on the couch while she watches HD tv. Its not fast, in terms of gaming rigs, but fast enough to run Battle Academy 2, Panzer Corps, and Graviteam Tactics.

It's seems like a good compromise...though, these are games i can run on my netbook from 2011. I am pretty sure you can run more demanding games on the surface 3.

My EU IV campaign took a back and forth battle.... as Austria I have been beset by the triangle of evil.... Bohemia, Bavaria, and Styria.  Styria and myself just finished a long war with me conceding back 2 provinces I took in a previous campaign.  The war took a toll on me fighting 2 strong allies and then my allies refused to help.  My Hungarian subject was of little help and the war drug out until my war score and economy broke.

I have since rebuilt my army, began to tech up and in the mean time Styria has grown.... so far this has turned out unexpectedly.

I have never been the cool kid. That's what makes me cool.

What really happened?  Pretty much DCS, Board games and some Attila.
