I think that game started out on the IL2:FB engine and then went off in another direction.  I remember it being a couple IL2 modders who wanted to build a WW1 mod.

btw, WOFF is $90 isn't it...$45 for the original version and another $45 for the updated version.  That is on top of needing CFS3.  I actually don't think the plane models in CK look that much worse than WOFF.  But WOFF's environment looks a heck of a lot better.  Of course, that is just form looking at CK's videos.

If you don't own version #1 of WOFF and you wanted to have the latest optional version #2, it would cost you roughly $94.99 to buy all the components ($39.99 for #1, $45 for #2, and $10 for CFS3).  You don't have to buy #2 unless you want the new features.  In my case, I own version #1 and CFS3 already, so my comparison was based on only needing to buy version #2.  Even without buying version #2 of WOFF, version #1 seems far more advanced for my personal needs, especially since it has a rich single player campaign experience, where CK does not have anything but single player missions, which is seems they largely rely on the modding community for content.

There is nothing wrong with another WW1 flight sim competitor on the market, but I think it will be very tough to compete with WOFF and ROF since they have an established community base and in my initial play of the CK demo did not see anything that would suggest the leaders would be dethroned any time soon.  Time will tell I guess.

Wot?  The planes in the CK screenshots I've seen look terrible.  Maybe they've done some miracles with the skins or something recently but I was astonished.

 CK is pretty much one mans labor of love.

The one thing is that he is always releasing new aircraft and they are all for free.

Like I said, at the moment it looks like Third Wires WWI game, but I believe there are a bunch of modders working on it.

For $30 it ain't bad. Look at some of the crap that you see on Steam.

It's nice that the era is getting lots of attention lately.  But this didn't bode well when I spied it:

I may be a graphics whore nowadays when it comes to sims, but it could well be indicative of the game's sophistication.  I can tell it's not for me, especially since I don't have enough time to split between the two big ones I own.

Hi all,

I came to this site / thread by a link I found on the net, I am the co-author of the Canvas Knights WW1 game.

I see the only photos that have been posted here are of a very old beta 4 game, I would like to show you what CK is like today with some up to date photos then I will give you some links.

The mother game engine of Canvas Knights is Vehicle Simulator meaning that all vehicles air, land and sea and even under sea are user operated, CK is fully moddable and even has in game and external apps that come with the game to assist you in modding it, CK is a online off line game, the off line is mission based only and the online is set for 24 players per a server.

The full game download is here;

Staggerwing

Deutschmark, thanks for the update and welcome to Grogheads!

Any chance of an OSX and/or Linux port anytime soon? Both of those platforms could use an accessible air combat sim.

Hi Staggerwing,

Thank you for the welcome  :)

Unfortunately not, the game engine owner is just going to keep it windows based.

Thanks for posting the above! Is the game still being worked on or has development stopped?

Hi Gusington,

The development of the game engine it self is done, but as far as modding apps we are still putting them out, like the mission maker it was just put out some weeks ago and add-ons to the game are being done all the time.

I call this one ( At the Airfield )

I like the skins.  Does the game support anti-aliasing?

How about dirigibles? Mighty-big bomb-dropping machinegun-festooned zeppelins that the player can pilot?

Yes! zeppelins work very good in this game, right now I am working on a set of vehicles of Austria Hungarian and Italian to go along with the new Northern Italy map by Ferda Mravenec here;

And as soon as I am done with them I will get back to working on my zeppelin seen here as in testing  :)
