Looks like the series continues......sometime in 2016, they will be moving to Italy.

I have yet to finish version 3, going to have to do that...always forget about it:(
I'll be getting it. I didn't enjoy 3 as much as 2 but I still had fun with it. Watching skulls deform in slow motion never gets old.
Nope. Slow-mo, high caliber nut shots on hitler's bully-boys is the bee's knees for, like, always and forever.
The zombie one was nice too, but for different reasons.
A refreshing change of pace taking on Eye-Talians.
Kinda brutal sniping guys who just want to surrender.
My Grandpa was good at it. Then again he did it with howitzers, not rifles.
That works too.
He didn't really enjoy himself but he came home.
All due respect to your Grandpa, that's how I feel about most Friday nights.
Heck ya! :D
I think I can count the amount of times I've seen Italians represented in games like Sniper Elite on one finger. Wasn't there a mod for Red Orchestra that inserted Italians? Or was that the mirth Friday night mod?
Star was touting an Italian goat mod.
No better kind of goat!
Star knows his goat mods.
I'm waiting for the written review.
Goats in the Fog?
So, is this a prequel about how the guy trained in Italy as a sniper in WW1? (In keeping with the tendency of the series to run backward. ;) )

There were a few missions with the Italians as the bad guys in Hidden and Dangerous 2. There were also a few in Sniper Elite III.
It really doesn't matter who the "bad guys" are. They only serve to be targets anyway. In order for this game to be worth taking a serious look at, they are going to have to modify the bullet mechanics again, add some other layer to it like they have done with the past titles. I'm not sure where else they can go with this, but I'm sure they have some trick up their sleeve.

Mare Nostrum. It had its moments. I got ridiculously good at the Downtown Tobruk scenario with Germans. I used to hide in the rubble across the street from the little door the MG42 dudes had to use to get to their shooty spot. I'd run out and bayonet them and take the MG42 and tour the town.

Don't slip up and shoot Pope Pius II -- he has to survive til Nov 1951 and declare the Big Bang theory to be a Very Good thing!
^Shooty spots are important from what I hear. As are horsey men.

Attila is now cheap. Should I get it?
Looks like release date is Feb. 14, 2017.....a little disappointed not this year, but I guess plenty of other things...
Looks like pre orders now available...seems like the xray cam continues to get crazier (in a good way for myself)......although I am sure I'll purchase, not likely a pre order unless I find cheap.....seems like they are getting further away from stealth/sniper by introducing more close combat stuff.....rather play cat and mouse versus run and gun.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/312660/
Ordered here :D
Only a month a way until release.....keep losing sight of this one. Never went back and finished v3, just something about it didn't draw me in like v2, the first FPS that I have ever fully completed. Just wished they would have stuck with pure sniper tactics versus adding all the close combat stuff into the game...love that aspect much more. Likely little doubt I will pick up at some point since I'll still get some good time with it.
I agree. SE3 got too much away from the sniper aspect and the North African setting didn't work as well as urban warfare in SE2. I also like the set pieces of the missions in SE 2 much better as well. I uninstalled SE 3 after playing only about two missions.
Saw some quick points on it....may not be able to resist:)
Map Size/Depth Is Considerable. We're talking absolutely massive sandboxes with paths left, right, high and low. You can spend easily a half an hour in total just planning your attack on each area, and a good stealthy playthrough of an entire level could easily last more than an hour on your first try, depending on how many optional objectives you do.
It has stellar custom difficulty options. I've made no secret of my love affair with custom difficulty, and that's part of the reason why I like a game like 2014's Thief, because it let me play the game my by making it more difficult. Sniper Elite 4 also boasts this ability, and, while not quite as prolific, still let's me add some more stipulations that otherwise wouldn't be there, such as making me discard unused ammo in a magazine upon reload.
Stealth mechanics aren't just thrown-in. I was definitely worried, especially when watching some other gameplay footage and trailers, that stealth would sort of be an afterthought, while huge, explosive confrontations would take center stage. That simply isn't the case with Sniper Elite 4, certainly not on harder difficulties, at least. Stealth seems to be the premiere mechanic or playstyle in the game, but you definitely have other options.
Side missions galore. Not only are there larger environments, but those environments are expertly populated with engagement opportunities. You have your side missions your tasked with at the start, but you can also come across more side missions through exploration, rewarding you for your troubles.
Tried and true progression system. We've seen this before: every five levels, you get to pick one of two skills. Killing Floor 2 did it. Battleborn does a variation of it. Honestly, though, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. This also helps give you a better reason to pursue challenges (get 100 headshots, e.g.) because it vastly contributes to your level, getting you closer to the next benefit.
Co-op is going to be great. If you play through a level on single player and have a heck of a time, imagine how awesome it would be teaming up. You'll get to feel like Seal Team Six in 1943 Italy. Execute simultaneous headshot to take down multiple people, or divide and conquer, halving the time it takes you to complete a level. The possibilities are endless.
Is the player fighting against the Italians or the Germans...or both?

Germans. Would be too easy otherwise.
^Oh snap.
I was hoping for Italians.
weakness strikes again....bought and now pre loading:)
Go get those Italo-Germans!!
I hope the first patch does not remove all the Germans:)
Or the Italians. If there are any. Which I hope there are. If you can confirm there are missions against Italian forces I'll buy right now.

What the heck do you have against Italians?
Fonzie stole his girl back in the day.
Before or after he jumped the shark?
Sorry didn't realize that was a comment for me. Anyway...
I just want to play a FPS against Italian forces.
Got some time with it tonight....still way early, but generally feels the same as past versions. Although in first mission, feels like its one man against an entire German army:) But still loads of fun for me.
I have never played any in the series but I have #2 and have installed it to see what all the fuss is about. IIRC it takes place during the fall of Berlin, 1945.

#2 is the only FPS game I have ever completely finished.
Whoa. What about it did you like the most?

It was the first sniper game I ever played.....the xray kill cam was fresh so was kinda cool to watch people die in different ways:) I just liked the different missions and having to mostly perform sniper duty to achieve your objectives. Certainly at times it turned into a killfest, but just liked the atmosphere and missions. However, I never did complete sniper #3, even if it was more wide open...no idea if I'll complete #4, but will certainly get my money's worth.
^I bet you'd finish if you could go up against the Italian Army.
Lots of Italians in Sniper Elite 3 to shoot if you're so inclined, Gus.
^For realz?

I never made it completely through, but thought the enemy was the German Afrika Korps? Certainly up until the point I quit, don't recall any Italians.
^That's what I thought. And that's why I was excited for #4, set in Italy. To fight...Italians.
Fascists, of course.
No idea if accurate, but this site does show Italians listed as enemy soldiers....
http://sniperelitegame.wikia.com/wiki/Sniper_Elite_III
Hmm the Royal Italian Army is listed too.
This is kinda sorta what I've been looking to read:
http://sniperelitegame.wikia.com/wiki/Royal_Italian_Army
The Royal Italian Army was the Army of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to the formation of the Italian Republic in 1946.
They were part of the Axis powers during the Second World War, and Allied with Germany and Japan.
Karl Fairburne had to engage them in combat several times whilst he was in Africa in 1942.
They will feature again in Sniper Elite 4, which is set entirely in Italy.
I can confirm that Italians are, in fact, in Sniper Elite 3. This is logical since the Italian Army played a fairly large role in the North African campaign.
I have not come across Italians in SE4 yet.
So far I am liking the openness of the missions....I am still on the first one and have been coming from many different angles. Still a lot more to do.
I understand that the Wehrmacht basically controlled Italy until the end of 1943 but to not encounter Italian troops...IN ITALY...makes my brain hurt.
But this is a good thing that the player can encounter them in #3. If I like #2 (should be able to try it out in the next few days) then I will get #3, on sale of course.

To further this, I am only partly way through the 1st level and I already have 59 kills......my sniper is the most feared soldier in the war! Lot of different kill methods....quite a few double kills with a single shot, blowing them up by hitting fuel or a truck, dropping a crane on people's heads, new melee animations, etc.....death comes in many ways.
Incidentally, I think Medal of Honor: Breakthrough involved fighting at least a few Italians in the latter part of the campaign. (Unlike the other MoHons, that expansion's campaign was extremely focused with lots of continuity between chapters. The first several chapters, set in North Africa, dealt with the Afrika Korps and was set after the Italians had folded I think.)
;D Nice video!!!! :2funny:
"...which leaves you shooting so many spooky skeletons, you'll think you're playing Wolfenstein the Nazi Zombie Trilogy!"
Man, that was some low hanging fruit they missed by a mile...
Really been hooked on this for last couple of days, brings back memories from Sniper Elite 2. The openness of the environment allows for many different approaches where you really need to think things through. The maps have been interesting and I like all the side quests that come with it. It takes me 1-2 hours per mission and I have attempted to complete all the goals. I wish I could be a little more stealth but there are SSSOOO many enemies on the map, I find it nearly impossible unless you show great patience and can isolate people. Just way too tempting to open up on them with guns a blazing:)
So when does Sniper Elite 5 come out:) Maybe time for the Pacific?
GIGGITY.
So about 9 hrs in....37% campaign completed, and over 400+ kills......
How many missions complete?
Quote from: Gusington on February 20, 2017, 02:37:07 PM
How many missions complete?
I think 4.....and I believe there are a total of 10. I am averaging around 2 hours per mission since there are side missions to complete as well.
Not bad.
Completed the full game today...only the second game I have ever fully completed and the first one was sniper 2.
Was puzzled however...my service record said I was only 72% completed with the campaign, even though I completed all missions and side quests. There was a total of eight missions and took me around 18 hours.
Bring on Sniper 5! Maybe Pacific or something like that.
^Maybe you didn't find a host of different items like wine and gold in Sniper Elite 2?

When you have tons of bad guys rushing you, tough to take time:) By the end of my campaign, I believe my enemy body count was just around 900. Guessing my soldier should be awarded some kind of medal for single handily winning the war:)
I forgot about the FREE kill hitler mission so I still need to complete that and probably the additional DLC that will eventually come.

Gus had a bad experience with a cannoli.
We've been through this before. I just want to know if the Royal Italian Army is represented as an enemy.
I am just about done with Sniper Elite II and both the Russians and the Germans are portrayed as enemies.
