We have hundreds of models and 27 years of the Cold War era. I don't see detailed suspension as doable, and there would not be much benefit on our low resolution terrain, which allows us to have the massive maps. One big reason for simple models is that AB is designed to be very moddable, it's easy to add new units, and we hope that mod makers will start creating their own 3D models.

WARNO also has hundreds of models iirc and large maps but not perhaps maps as large as yours? I don't think WARNO would have as detailed a battle model that you do though with it's underlying systems. I do agree that if everything is low resolution then I guess it fits. It's just not for me. I consider some things to be minimums if one is to go 3D in any capacity, moving wheels just like moving turrets is one of the those things. I only know of one other game that did not do wheels and had a tonne of vehicles in 3D, that was "Close Combat Bloody First".

I am curious to know if you have you played WARNO at all and compared it?

If we really want to start comparing...

From what I know, the WARNO engine (Iriszoom) and their games have been developed by large teams since the 2000's, so the starting points are quite different. I started working on our current rendering engine in 2021, and I hadn't even done 3D programming before. I learned OpenGL for AB2. We don't really have any kind of development budget other than the AB1 revenue, it's just me doing this full-time, and three others making content in their spare time.

If someone doesn't like our game, that's perfectly fine. Plenty of other games to choose from. However, in AB the 3D view is just a bonus feature. It's for seeing terrain elevation, like I mentioned before. This is a hardcore wargame.

I don't play any kind of wargames other than AB these days. I do play games, but they seem to be mostly survival games and such.

I think your game is an amazing achievement then. I think the terrain elevation being shown in 3D is an amazing change from AB1 as well. I really hope your game does well... I was just giving constructive feedback in the hope that a few things like wheels would make it sell even better.

I can see what you guys are saying about the graphics.  Me personally, I think they are fine, huge upgrade from AB1 that was 2D top down.  I think the strength of this one is the shear amount of units and the replay ability with the dynamic campaign / map generator.  Definitely like the improvements in this new version.

The graphics are fine for me. Game is looking good in my book.

Graphics are pretty good imo, but I'm here for the eventual WW2 mod  :notworthy:

The real question is how 3D the terrain, and hence LOS computations, are.

And if they are, what kind of map editor is provided. 3D editing is always an adventure.

Personally I don't think it had to go 3D. But they know the numbers I guess.

They needed to do something to fix the aweful elevation map from #1
In number one you actually had to switch to a terrain elevation map separately and then switch back and continue the game.
