My wife and I heard Mel Blanc give a talk at UNC in the early 1980s.  He had an ok autobiography which I read once.

He got the tag "Voice Characterizations by Mel Blanc" on the old Loony Tunes cartoons because they would not give him a raise and he asked for being in the credits - and they agreed.  He said that single line in the credits paid off better than any raise would have.
