I'm thinking about a smoker for Christmas. This would be my first one.
I'm strongly leaning towards electric because they have less fuss. But I don't know much about brands. Suggestions?

I don't have one, but a co-worker has a pellet smoker/grill and loves it. He can get something going, then head down to the beach for a few hours and not have to worry about.
I do know that he think the Traegers are not good. I don't remember what brand he has, but it was about $1200-$1400
