I flew through to fallen angels and then got too busy with work but I loved the ones i read
I wouldn't worry though, before you get to the end GW will claim the lore was all wrong and make them all be rewritten so you have to buy them again
That's the production order, not necessarily chronological or topical.
I've read the first four novels and novellas in chronological order (which would be Descent of Angels, Some Novella Featuring the Eldar On Dinosaurs the Title of Which I Forget, Legion and Horus Rising), but got off on other things. I enjoyed what I did read a lot, but I doubt I'll go back until I plow through the vastly-much-cheaper and just-as-epic (and just-as-variable-in-overall-quality) MtG novels. ;)
Very weird advert on TV tonight for the books - never seen gw on the telly before
One of those start collecting now things - one a week for the next eleventy million weeks usually reserved for a galleon or a tyrannasaur

Huh. I have to wonder if that's due to the recent preponderance of Warhammer games (40K and standard) on PC and mobiles.
I can't stop reading the damn things! I've noticed that the farther into the series you read (by production order) the further back in time you go. The stories of the characters, such as Fulgrim and Garro are good and it really adds some depth to the characters and universe.
The down side is like you say - GW will probably turn the whole series into a dream in the mind of Horus while he sleeps than the real Heresy series will begin. :o
I want to start reading some of the Space Marine series, but I may have to find another job to finance the adventure - GW loves their money. Between me buying these books and my Son buying miniatures the amount of disposable income going to GW is large. :)
Okay, I'll bite with the first one. I've been wanting to read these for a while now.
No, but Dan Abnett has the WH40K milieu down cold so I'd just read what he wrote and call it good.
Seriously, Gaunt's Ghosts and the Inquisitor series should be required reading before even touching a WH40K rpg.
I'll pretend this thread doesn't exist.

I can't hear you.
Ha!
I've heard of them and never read a single one. Somehow I don't feel as though I've missed out on anything special. :)

If you'd learn to round your counters, we'd get along great.

I would pay good money for an Escape from NY prequel. Simply jenius.
The sequel didn't work out so well.

What's not to like? Surfing, sports events, cheesy 80s acting in the 90s, Los Angeles hardly changed, etc. etc.
Didn't have that 1981 magic or smell.
Or special effects.

I love those effects!!! I am using what you posted above as my new avatar, that is so The Money.
It still has a certain minimalist future charm, doesn't it?
I first saw it on a local NYC station when I was around ten, just a few years after it was released in theaters and have loved it ever since.
I continue to plow thru these puppies - On novel 13 - novel 10 (in release order) was one of the best so far ! :bd:

I have highlighted in orange text below all of the books I've read in the series. I'm kind of stalled at the moment however and tryhing to read through Prospero Burns.

Maybe I'll try the first Horus Heresy novel next instead of that Waterloo book I mentioned in the 'What Are We Reading' thread... :buck2:
I find myself flipping back and forth between books to reference stuff - sorta like a freakin' university course. And, of course, I started the Legacy of Caliban series, because my mind is polluted enough with this stuff :crazy2: Thinking about hitting the Aliens series of books next.
Finished The Wake yesterday and recommend it to anyone who enjoys medieval fiction. The way it's written will blow your mind. Today I began The Normans: From Raiders to Kings by Lars Brownworth:
https://smile.amazon.com/Normans-Raiders-Kings-Lars-Brownworth/dp/1909979082/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1482810559&sr=1-1&keywords=the+normans+from+raiders+to+kings
...I'm sure that has some connection to WH40K and the Horus Heresy plotline somehow... by... uh....... linking to the basic Warhammer milieu from which 40K was developed, which counts as medieval fiction in several ways?
On Book 15 Prospero Burns - Just ordered the next 2 .... >:D
