Title: US Army whiskey ration
Post by: besilarius on December 08, 2019, 07:46:44 AM
Today in 1832, Adjutant General Order #72 abolished the whiskey ration.  Each soldier had received a gill of whiskey (four ounces) per day.  In exchange, coffee and sugar were substituted.

When people moan about "the good old days" they may be thinking of the free whiskey.

And for the last 100 years or so Canadian officers have been able to trade their liquor ration away for Colt automatic pistols, carbines, tommy guns and the occasional B-17.
