Regarding  WITP vs WITE, I think the key is one is WEGO and the other is IGUGO.  With WITEx you get instant feedback/gratification while WEGO makes you wait until you've made all your moves.  I've trying starting WITP but it takes forever to finish 1st turn moves.  I can't keep the motivation up that long 😴

Note I loved the predecessor Uncommon Valor probably because the limited scope made turn input tolerable.

a week, maybe 10 days is the usual amount i spend on japanese turn 1

Fair point! And yes the biggest hurdle IMO is that first turn especially for Japan. Once you get that going things get much easier!

Those Strategy Gaming Dojo tutorials on the Grigsby games are classic.  He really breaks the game down and explains every single detail.  Fantastic for those learning the game (even some vets looking to brush up on their skills).  Sadly the Gaming Dojo seems to have vanished from the internet.  I know he and his wife were expecting a baby....I hope everything is alright with the guy.  I was a big fan.
