In case, like me, you're wondering if this was holocaust gold -- hard to tell, but possible. Himmler ordered the local police to seize gold from the city's coffers and from local German citizens living around Breslau, in 1944, as part of a plan to start a Fourth Reich. However, a secretive Christian group within the SS stole the gold from police headquarters and hid it on the palace grounds (with the help of Inge, one of the workers), to help stop the Nazis from rising again.
Inge changed her name after the war when the Soviets overran the place, married, and lived nearby keeping an eye on the caches, but apparently didn't survive until the downfall of the Soviets and their ejection from Poland. Nor did she quite manage to arrange proper heirs to watch the treasure, so only recently has the original group been able to get hold of her notes.
Members of the same group have handed over Inge's material for finding the treasure, so that it may perhaps be returned to its original owners or their heirs. Aside from precious metals, the caches contain jewelry and lost artwork.
The SS had a brothel? I bet you had to dress like a Valkyrie to get any action there. :o

Yeah, we went over them pretty extensively in Holocaust class.
A lot of what went on there wasn't voluntary on the part of the "workers".
Sadly, and monstrously, very true. Thus a fitting irony, that such a place came to fill a role in blocking the Nazis from rising again, thanks to the heroism of one of its workers! :bd: :notworthy:
