Recon mission tonight and I failed to spot a Soviet recon unit at hill 306

Great mission with quite a bit of suspense watching all those BMP's, BTR's and tanks riding past my recon troops.

This is why I missed them

That illustrates how over-used the infantry 'sinking' effect is.

When they've sunk that far down into the ground, you often can't shoot them either.   I've wasted a couple thousand rounds of coax on the little bit of crown sticking out before, to no avail.   >:(

They should probably ease up on the sinkholes, right?  I mean.. maybe if they were in deep trenches but not in regular terrain.   C:-)

Reminds me of these coming out of the ground when they occasionally pop up from nowhere:

The way this works in Steel Beasts is by using a feature called "Bumpiness" value. This is used to calculate the depth that the infantry can sink into the ground surface. This situation arises when  the modelling of terrain cannot display variations in the terrain due to the mesh resolution being to low but the variation would still give some ground cover. A hole or small ditch for example.

Hope this makes sense

Oh...hit em with a heat round. That will finish em off  :knuppel2:

James Sterrett

Hiding is generally infantry's ticket to continued survival, and, especially given rough ground or any kind of time to rearrange matters with shovels, they can do it quite well.

As an abstraction of infantry's ability to hide, this new feature in SB works pretty well; before, when they were kept highly visible, they were unrealistically easy to detect and therefore to kill.

Having the infantry hard to detect should also encourage players to work with their own infantry.  Combined arms...  it's not just for breakfast any more!  :)

Hi Cyrano

There is a difference between the two session days.

Saturday = T.A.N.K.K.S.
This is a casual game. All are welcome and a mix of games will be run.

Sunday = Dogs of War
This is a mission for players that have been taking part in DOW training sessions and are part of the Dogs of War VU. These missions are more simulation and can have an advanced planning and debrief stage. Proper use f call signs etc. A requirement is that all players that play these missions also have completed 1 full tutorial for M1A2sep or Leo2A5.

Any questions just ask :)
