You're correct that when properly served, it is delectable.

However, my family has a history of heart issues, so I tend to partake sparingly. Which is unfortunate because each of those looks awesome.

Nice touch with the bacon explosion, too.

I don't think there's really much to discuss.  Bacon is the greatest meat on the planet.  Period.

I don't eat much bacon anymore, but I used to eat hot dogs with bacon wrapped around it similar to the photo above...but I had sliced the hot dog lengthwise and inserted a slice of cheese before wrapping it with bacon.

Then there were those delicious bacon and egg sandwiches. I would brown the bacon on one side, turn it, then add an egg. When the egg was done on that side, I'd turn the combination over and finish cooking the egg before making a sandwich of the mix.

That sounds good.

NC State fans were cooking these at their tailgate before the Maryland game.

Apparently it took 'til late in the 3d quarter that they were ready to eat.

When I ate bacon, I liked slicing it myself.  I haven't eaten bacon in years.  (you knew I was gonna say that)

I do agree bacon is the best meat period.

Bacon, boobs, and vodka.

That might be a holy trinity.

Nawww, but I'm 58, and can still do 70 good Marine style pushups in 1 minute.  It's called quality of life.  I keep a pretty strict diet and routine.  I'm only 10 pounds above my wrestling weight from high school and college.  Gotta stay in shape when the revolution starts, and I need to fight them thar Bolsheviks.  (kidding , no really I am, but not about the pushups)

Chicken and fish, with lots of veggies and oil supplements, THE GOOD kind of oil, ingested before you perverts jump in. lol

I could eat you guys under the table with junk food, but I just don't allow myself that luxury.  To many of my friends have issues now at my age because they did.

Anywho, I LOVE bacon, just don't eat it anymore.

Replace vodka with beer, and I might be forced to agree.

My quality of life would be greatly adversely affected if I couldn't eat bacon anymore!  It's bad enough to be sex-less; if I were bacon-less as well, I might just have to commit seppuku...

Didn't the Civil War era soldiers eat some form of smoked bacon as part of their rations?

Martok, after three witches for wives (will have to work now till I drop), I would eat bacon again before getting involved with another "modern" woman. lol

My hat is off to you sir! <insert tipped hat smiley here>

I'm 48 and have begun a 'lifestyle change' regime so that I'll see 58.  Bacon is still on the roster, but, admittedly, I think that I've had it twice this year (I know it's only February) whereas previously it was a weekly- or twice weekly treat.

I am the bacon master..

I actually made the bacon explosion (a concoction of ground pork, fried and smoked bacon weaved and wrapped and smoked) .  In fact in world of tanks I took the name Bacon Explosion (works on so many different levels)

We drank the bacon vodka with it and as a true admirer of all things alcohol let me assure you that this is vile

you use it as dummy text in graphic design/layout to show folks what the design will look like w/o having to generate real text to go in there.  Keeps people focused on layouts and not on editing text (which is what many people default to)

That still needs clarification, I suspect.

Guys, "Lorum Ipsum" is gobbledy-gook language designed for when you need text to fill out something.

We often use it in web design so we can see how a page looks without publishing anything with regard to content. If you put news in there as filler you might distract folks with the content (some will be more interesting). Random English words will still distract.

Lorem Ipsum ensures that all you see is funky text, and you can better assess the layout of a website.

However, the fact that it's bacon just makes it Epic.

I have no words.

No, I'm not sure that's a good idea. When is the last time you just sucked on a piece of bacon?

Depending on where that oil was applied, I might be able to overcome my vegetarian resistance to eating bacon.

More importantly, don't date Vegan girls.

Never dated a vegan. I do have a weakness for hippy granola chicks though. At least the ones who bathe semi-regularly.

QuoteGetting dressed up can be fun. But sometimes finding that last little bit to finish your ensemble can be tough. Do you wear the articulated finger armor with the blade, or do you wear the super-long, multi-colored scarf? Decisions, decisions. Well, allow us to assist you. Just wear a Fancy Bacon Candy Necklace and forget about the rest.

The Fancy Bacon Candy Necklace goes with EVERYTHING! Why? Because it's bacon, that's why! That's right, this candy necklace (just like the one you remember as a kid) tastes like bacon. Plus, the Fancy Bacon Candy Necklace has a dangly candy bacon pendant, and it's the pendant that makes this necklace fancy. You want to be like Hannah in that picture, all glamorous and awesome? Well, then get yourself some Fancy Bacon Candy Necklaces!

QuoteBurger King wants to lure customers this summer with a barbecue party - and a bacon sundae.

The world's second biggest hamburger chain on Thursday is launching several pork, beef and chicken sandwiches as limited time offers. And for a sweet ending, the company is also offering a bacon sundae - vanilla soft serve with fudge, caramel, bacon crumbles and a piece of bacon - that started in Nashville, Tenn. earlier this year.

The salty-sweet dessert clocks in at 510 calories, 18 grams of fat and 61 grams of sugar.

That's called financial survival. The Canadian appetite for bacon would bankrupt the Canadian wing of Burger King.

I buy large cans of minced clams packed in water....  but then I have to buy clam juice if I want the clam juice taken from the damn clams in the first place...

Texas White Wings

1/2 jalapeno deseeded and washed.
stuff said pepper with cream cheese.
wrap chicken tender around pepper.
wrap chicken in 2 or 3 slices of bacon.
toss in crystal hot sauce.
deep fry, bake or grill.

How about a hamburger made of ground bacon?

QuoteSouthern California burger chain Slater's 50/50 has spent the past couple years making a name for itself through its flagship  burger patty that blends 50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon into a local hero of a menu item.

In celebration of one the most patriotic months of the year, the 3-location chain is debuting The 'merica burger — a patty made of 100% ground bacon topped with a slice of thick cut bacon, a sunny side up egg, a new "bacon island" dressing and a heavy slice of bacon cheddar cheese. Bacon on bacon on bacon — apparently the only way to top their 50/50 ground beef bacon blend patty is to go 100% bacon.

Excerpt
QuoteHe stood in the hallway - a coy smile on his face - and reached for my hand. I let him guide me into the kitchen. Candles stood alight on the granite counter, their flames reflected in the pot rack above. Lagostina, I noticed. And not the cheap kind with the plastic handles, either. This guy meant business.

"What are you cook--" I began to ask, but he put a finger to my lips and stopped me cold.

"Don't speak," he insisted, and reached into the pocket of his apron, pulling out a silk scarf. He grabbed my hair and gently forced my head back, tying the scarf so that all I could see was blackness. "On your knees."

Cold air blasted me from the fridge door.

The last time I was on my knees, I was scrubbing dried pee from beside the toilet bowl. Sure, no one was bossing me around at the time, but at least this situation smelled a lot better. In fact, it smelled incredible.

His curly moustache tickled my cheek as he leaned down to whisper in my ear. "I've been getting my meat ready for you all day, lover. Now it's time for things to get hot."

Excitement rushed through me at the sound of something unzipping in front of my face. Freezer bag!

The sound of dish sliding against dish behind me, then the intense pounding of microwave keys. Not a word was spoken for what felt like at least thirty seconds, Then, a beep cut through the silence like a knife.

"I want you to taste my meat," he said. "But first I want you to beg for it."

I wanted his meat. I wanted it so badly. But I kept quiet.

The scent was getting stronger, smokier, closer. I breathed it in lustfully.  Sweat began to trickle down my face. Oh God, I thought. I know that smell. That amazing, breakfast-like smell.

I soon realized that wasn't sweat trickling down my chin, but drool.

I could hold my porkly passion no longer. "Feed me your meat." I said quietly.

He got behind me, put a foot on my back, and held the plate just under my nose.  His chef hat fell in my lap."Louder! Tell me how much you want it!"

"Feed me your long, hard strip!" I yelled.

He pulled off the blindfold. A pound of perfectly processed pork product sat steaming on a plate. "Take it all! Cram it in you mouth! I want to watch you eat it."

And so I did. He looked at me and cocked his head. "Good girl. Only 49 more plates to go."

I never knew such desire until that night.

I think we had a discussion about this (what defines "dinner"?) roughly a month ago.

In my neck of the woods, dinner is normally the biggest meal of the day.  Given that's generally supper (at least around here), most people I know equate dinner with supper.

What's not to like? The Two Fat Ladies ride all over the English countryside on a motorcycle with sidecar, buying food at local markets, and then go back to some castle or other to cook up a huge feast in the castle's medieval kitchen, wrapping almost everything they cook in bacon, all the while wisecracking away.

Sadly, the show has been off the air for many years and one of the Ladies (the one with the motorbike) passed away from cancer a few years back.  :(

And now for some Bacon Bad News:

QuoteEating bacon can significantly lower a man's sperm quality, Medical Daily reported.

In a study presented at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine's 2013 Annual Meeting in Boston, researchers from Harvard University gathered data from 156 men who were undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVR) with a partner. Each couple was asked questions about their diet, including how often they consumed processed meat, red meat, white meat, poultry, and fish.

Overall, men who consumed more than half a portion of processed meats such as bacon each day had significantly lower levels of "normal" sperm, compared to men who ate less than half a portion of processed meats per day.

Such studies are complete hogwash...asked about their eating diets...LOL...only 156 men in the study...LOL...and humans have been eating bacon for how long now...? Yeah for a very long time and we are not an extinct species as far as I can see...any study that has something to do with what we eat and whether that's healthy or not is a study not to read...

After seeing that picture I decided to have the real thing since I haven't had one in awhile and most food joints just nuke them.

I Grabbed 2 baking potatoes out of the pantry, washed and rubbed them down with butter, ventilated them with a fork wrapped them in tin foil and threw them in the oven for an hour.

Then I fried up some bacon, crumbled it and when the potatoes were done grabbed the cheese from the fridge grated it and smothered the potatoes in butter and cheese and fresh grated pepper then topped it with the bacon.

Very satisfying,tastey and filling.Delightful!
Only thing missing was a decent grilled steak to go with it.
If I wasn't saving my appetite for tomorrow I would have grilled a steak also.

Looks to me you like potatoes the same way you like pizza.
Dainty.

How do you keep the tots crispy? Do you pre-bake/fry them, does the rendering bacon fat do that for you, or do the tots just stay slightly soft?

I'd need to get a fryer first. I used to have one of those bitty little fry daddy things but it was a pain to use. If I get another fryer it will need to have a proper basket and be big enough that I can fry more than two mozzarella sticks at a time. How many times can you use the same batch of oil before it breaks down or gets nasty?

I did our bacon-wrapped tots in the oven

Nuke the tots before wrapping for about 50s or so (just enough to be able to push toothpicks thru)

Wrap with 1/2 slices of bacon

Bake on 425 for 10 minutes or so, flip, bake another 10 minutes or so until bacon is nicely crisp

You can adjust the amount of pre-bacon nuke time, too: more thawed tots = cook at a lower temp and bacon comes out a little softer/chewier

Do not use thick-cut bacon for this b/c the 'inside' of the bacon (against the tots) won't cook before the outside is too charred

Grill for 20 to 30 minutes. Or you can bake it in the oven, at 350° for about 35 minutes or till done. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Serve in foil, topped with sour cream if desired

Damn, that looks tasty!

Incidentally, I had a chicken & bacon sandwich at work, so I'm not completely deprived at the moment.  ;)

^They may need to.

MILWAUKEE —
A virus never before seen in the U.S. has killed millions of baby pigs in less than a year, and with little known about how it spreads or how to stop it, it's threatening pork production and pushing up prices by 10 percent or more.

Scientists think porcine epidemic diarrhea, which does not infect humans or other animals, came from China, but they don't know how it got into the country or spread to 27 states since last May. The federal government is looking into how such viruses might spread, while the pork industry, wary of future outbreaks, has committed $1.7 million to research the disease.

The U.S. is both a top producer and exporter of pork, but production could decline about 7 percent this year compared to last -- the biggest drop in more than 30 years, according to a recent report from Rabobank, which focuses on the food, beverage and agribusiness industries.

Already, prices have shot up: A pound of bacon averaged $5.46 in February, 13 percent more than a year ago, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Ham and chops have gone up too, although not as much.

Farmer and longtime veterinarian Craig Rowles did all he could to prevent PED from spreading to his farm in Iowa, the nation's top pork producer and the state hardest hit by the disease. He trained workers to spot symptoms, had them shower and change clothing before entering barns and limited deliveries and visitors.

Despite his best efforts, the deadly diarrhea attacked in November, killing 13,000 animals in a matter of weeks, most of them less than 2 weeks old. The farm produces about 150,000 pigs each year.

Estimates of how many pigs have died in the past year vary, ranging from at least 2.7 million to more than 6 million. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the die-off has had a hand in shrinking the nation's pig herd by 3 percent to about 63 million pigs.

Diarrhea affects pigs like people: Symptoms that are uncomfortable in adults become life-threatening in newborns that dehydrate quickly. The best chance at saving young pigs is to wean them and then pump them with clear fluids that hydrate them without taxing their intestines. But nothing could be done for the youngest ones except euthanasia.

"It's very difficult for the people who are working the barns at that point," Rowles said. "... No one wants to go to work today and think about making the decision of baby pigs that need to be humanely euthanized because they can't get up anymore. Those are very hard days."

PED thrives in cold weather, so the death toll in the U.S. has soared since December.

The first reports came from the Midwest, and the states most affected are those with the largest share of the nation's pigs: Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina and Illinois. The disease also has spread to Canada and Mexico.

Some states now require a veterinarian to certify that pigs coming in are virus-free, while China, which has seen repeated outbreaks since the 1980s, has asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture to similarly vouch for animals shipped overseas.

Companies are racing to develop a vaccine, but the federal government has yet to approve one. While the mass deaths have been a blow for farmers, the financial impact to them may be limited because pork prices are rising to make up for the loss of animals.

It takes about six months for a hog to reach market weight so the supply will be short for a while. Smithfield Foods, one of the nation's largest pork processors, has cut some plant shifts to four days per week in North Carolina, and those in the Midwest are likely to do so later this spring, said Steve Meyer, an Iowa-based economist and pork industry consultant.

Smithfield Foods declined to comment.

In the end, consumers will be most affected, Meyer said, with pork prices likely to be 10 percent higher overall this summer than a year ago.

"We're all used to: 'We've got plenty of food, it's cheap. We'll eat what we want to,'" Meyer said. "We Americans are very spoiled by that, but this is one of those times that we're going to find out that when one of these things hits, it costs us a lot of money."

5 boneless, skinless, chicken breasts
5 jalapeño peppers
20 strips of bacon
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup grated colby jack or cheddar cheese
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup BBQ sauce (I like Sweet Baby Ray's)

1.) Slice chicken breasts in half WIDTH wise (Each half will make 1 Chicken Bomb). Place between two pieces of wax paper and pound to 1/4 inch thickness. *A rolling pin also does the trick. Season each with salt a pepper.
2.) Slice jalapeños in half LENGTH wise and remove seeds, ribs, and the end with the stem.
3.) In a small bowl, mix your softened cream cheese with your grated colby jack.
4.) Fill each jalapeño half with about 1 Tbs cheese mixture. (Sometimes I use more)
5.) Place 1 jalapeño half at the end of each pounded breast piece. Roll over and together. *It doesn't always close the way you think it should. No worries! The bacon will pull it all together.
6.) Wrap each breast piece with 2 slices of bacon. I do 1 at a time (obviously), and just sort of wrap tightly and tuck the ends of the bacon under the strips. It all comes together in the cooking process. I promise you do not need toothpicks!
7.) Preheat your grill to 350 degrees. Cook over indirect heat for 20-25 minutes; turning every 4-5 minutes. Baste chicken with BBQ sauce each time you turn it. Giving it one final basting right before it's done. Chicken is ready when it reaches an internal temp of 165 degrees. If you don't have a meat thermometer, pierce chicken with a fork. If juices run clear, it's done! *Makes 10 Chicken Bombs

To Bake: Bake, uncovered, at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Basting with BBQ sauce a few times during cooking. Baste once again when finished, and place under broil setting for a few minutes so bacon can crisp completely.

My tailgate group roasted an entire pig for the Auburn - Arkansas football game.  We used a Cajun microwave.  I have pictures, but the size is too big for the website.

Host them on Photobucket and image-link them here. You can even size down the way the image looks here until someone clicks on it and then it will show full size.

Heh.  Sure.  :P

Actually, I don't like ordering via drive-thru because they do have a tendency to mess up my order -- a fact which (at first) I often didn't discover til I was miles down the road, and it was thus impractical to turn around and get it fixed.  Later on, I wised up and started checking to make sure everything was correct before I exited the drive-thru; however, that of course then held up the line behind me and made me look like a jerk.

I eventually realized it would ultimately be a lot easier (and better) if I simply parked my car and ordered inside.  For whatever reason, my order gets messed up much less often that way, and in the (happily) rare occasions where it is wrong, I can get it fixed while I'm still right there at the counter and don't hold up customers behind me as much (since there's usually other registers open).  As a bonus, I save a little on gas as well.  :)

Tough luck if the other customers have to wait. You can be pretty sure they'll take all the time they need. Are they paying for your messed up order?

I have a serious issue at home. On the weekends when Kellie cooks breakfast, the pound of bacon she cooks up experiences some sort of mysterious condition and about half just dissapears before it hits the kitchen table. She claims having no knowledge of this metaphysical phenomena. I of course being a rational man of science call bullshit on this.

1.  Toast the bread slightly before wrapping w/ bacon, then butter it.  Keeps the bread a little crispier
2.  If you can lightly sear the 'inside' of the bacon wave before wrapping, do it
3.  Put extra cheese in the middle.  I made these w/ 2 slices of cheese and it made a difference

we hit Sheetz last night grab sandwiches on the way to Bayonet Jr's game and we were using the automated self-order kiosk

You can order bacon as the primary meat - I presume to make a BLT - and then start layering on the extras.
So I got bacon on a pretzel roll, with lettuce, pickles, grilled onions, and mayo.
Then it asks if you want double meat for an extra $1.  Sure!
Then it gives you the 'premium' extras that aren't free and you pay more for.  Guess what one of the options is...  BACON!

So you can get a bacon sandwich, double the meat, and then add bacon!

I've found heaven, and it's called "Sheetz"

Ah! Yes. I mentioned the 72-pack of black label Hormel bacon for $20 in another thread a few weeks ago -- consistently the best pre-cooked bacon I've found (though occasionally a sheet will be fattier than usual, blegh) .

Has that been addressed here yet? -- I only ask because of the surprise my revelation engendered.

Also, if anyone here hasn't tried bacon soda yet: don't. It exists and is vile beyond description.

Down the drain?! ???
I pour my excess bacon fat into the garbage. I already have several containers-full of it in my freezer for seasoning cast iron pans or for frying. I used to use it for making suet balls to feed the non-migrating birds during winter but read that the high levels of processed nitrates are dangerous to them with their already rapid metabolisms so now I just get the suet cakes at the local Job Lot store..

U.S.—A new study suggests that avoiding red meat may lead to a longer, more miserable life.

The study found that by carefully avoiding bacon, carne asada, chicken-fried steak, hamburgers, brisket, tri-tip, tomahawk steak, and filet mignon, you might be able to eke another year or two out of your pointless existence.

"You might live a little longer, maybe," said one study intern. "Of course, then you'll be eating salad, kale, vegetables, fruits, and generally just hating life. So yeah, it's kind of a lose-lose."

Careful research showed that those who spent every waking moment trying to avoid the temptation to bite into a delicious bone-in ribeye could gain a few months of life, but they would pretty much hate those extra months of life, as well as the rest of their life, because they weren't eating red meat.

One man in the study, John Alpers, died at the ripe old age of 80 after avoiding red meat his entire life. His last words were, "Life is awful."

Another man in the control group, Lyle Manning, died at the age of 79 while eating a plate of bacon. His last words were, "I've lived a full life, and now I'm ready to go to the eternal meat-filled potluck in the sky."

Experts are recommending that if you want to live a melancholy existence full of existential dread and unfulfillment, go ahead and avoid red meat so you can go on existing a little bit longer.

While amusing, that's honestly pretty much my philosophy when it comes to food.  Who wants to live until they're 90 if you can't eat the things you enjoy?  (Granted, it's easier for me to say that, as I have no children or grandchildren to compel me to try and stick around for an extra decade or so.)

Long ago, when I was young, my Mom would make what she called wilted lettuce by pouring bacon grease over lettuce.  Has anyone else eaten wilted lettuce?

My Mom made this.  She called it "scalded lettuce" from freshly picked lettuce from the garden.  I did not care for it as a kid - and don't have access to fresh ingredients now.

A couple of years back the Wife and I attended a local fund raiser for a Boy's Camp nearby with the youth cooking the food for us. The appetizers were bacon grilled with Brown Sugar and B-B-Q sauce on wooden skewers. And they just kept passing them out on and on and on. And we kept eating them on and on and on. They were so good you could almost eat the skewer too. Every fund raiser since then people fight over getting inside. It was like Bacon-Crack.  :smitten:

The only thing better is serving this with good Scotch and having a dessert of chocolate covered bacon (which is amazing).
